Discontinued ThermoVape

Been meaning to post this for a long time but never bothered to register...

I have combusted several times with my T1 - full combustion with smoke pouring out of the mouthpiece and a clearly identifiable burnt "cherry" in the bowl. When combustion starts on the T1 it is really obvious. After the first few times I started paying more attention to how long I let it warm up, how quickly I drew my hits, etc...

Then one day I combusted on the very first hit of a newly loaded bowl. It started as soon as I started drawing (less than a second). I had heated the unit the same as always, using material that I had used many times before.

That's when it struck me that maybe heating time, draw technique, and the moisture of the material had nothing to do with the combustion. I believe what happened is that finely ground material fell through the bottom screen into the heater core. While this would normally be incinerated in the core, it is possible that "when the stars align" this material may actually be sucked back into the bowl once I start to draw. The glowing, super hot ember ignites the rest of the bowl.

I don't grind super-fine, but even so there will always be some particles that are smaller than others - small enough to fit through the holes in the screen.

This is just a theory. The odds of material falling through the screen and then making it back through the screen into the bowl before being incinerated seem pretty low, which would explain why combustion is pretty rare in the T1.

Anyone else have this experience?

Hey Guys,
Just joined but have been reading this site for a while. I decided to get a thermovape because of you guys.

I have a T1 core with one coil not functioning. I checked thermovapes site and are no longer taking returns. Is there a way to repair the coil at home? I have tools. Any tried this? Does anyone know if thermovape still repairs old cores? Does anyone sell cores for the T1 anymore?

JL,

Welcome! Yes THERMOVAPE still offers repair service on their original products. IIRC they charge around $15 to rewind the core. Give them a call or shoot them an email. You got yourself a Vape that will last a LOOOOONG TIME. Enjoy.

Yeah, what he Brother with No Name just said. Good choice, welcome to the fun.

While TV doesn't make T1s any more, warranty repairs are their highest priority. Over the year end holidays they rotated days off so at least one guy was on duty for that very reason even when Cera and other work was held up for lack of parts. I've personally watched repairs happen in the last weeks to TV products, including mine!

And, not to call NN a liar or anything, it's free for a year (and $15 after that) and it sounds like you're inside that so contact them and send it in. Not only will they 'turn it around' right away but it's free as well. Don't 'limp along' on one coil.

Contact them today, you might even reach someone Saturday morning, but for sure they'll get back to you next week. They're legit for sure.

Best wishes.

Hey OF what's up?
Just want to say that this T1 I just got today is a really nice unit, and medicated me really well.
I have had about 6 bowls as of yet and have to say that the taste is superb and the action is smooth no restricted air flow and smooth vapor. Now the mouth piece does get a little hot after a while but ca be corrected wit a rubber mouth pice to go over the existing one used my Atmos RX's rubber mouth piece fit on nicely.
I can't wait ti get my PA next week cause the n,y real down fall is the battery life, beside that I love this thing.
I thought it was going to be bigger for some reason but is actually the perfect size what a great purchase and a great back up convection vape.
Now I can see the potential to combust but is you pay attention and keep a good airflow its a none issue, also its kinda cool but I noticed that there a place in time whenyour giving it a steady pull and it just feels like there's a release of vapor and you mat get a rush of taste and vapor all in a matter of seconds at a particular time as you pull has anyone else noticed this effect.?.

Anyway next week I can compare my Cera LL/EO to this T1 I can't wait I know I won't be disappointed.
Cheers,

Not sure what's up any more....I don't think I'm going to do at all well on the test this time......

Glad to hear you and the new T1 have become friends so quickly, many guys fight it for a while before getting to the turning point you obviously have. To answer your question, yes, I think most of us have made that same discovery.....and kinda like it? It's a trip for sure, you're controlling the process, but can't control the basic machine. If you 'go with it' (follow your results) and use it the way it was designed it's superb IMO. Excellent control of extraction, great flavor, easy to make 'like new' clean, what's not to like?

Anyway, good show you 'listened to the vape', I think it really will teach you if you pay attention to your results and follow the ones you like......and I like the same ones you do, it seems. I'm pretty sure we're not alone in that.

Well, as you say, more battery would be nice. So would not having to stir the load to get good results, easier to open and close, better heat control, ability to use smaller loads and so on. That's what Cera is, a much improved in a lot of non critical but nice areas. You'll find it similar but easier to drive. That sweet spot is much wider and easier to hit and stay within. And forget the 'change the battery with every bowl' rule.

The EO is another matter entirely. It's scary powerful. Yer gonna like it. If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger......

Anyway, thanks for the report, and congrats on the new gear. IMO good choices all.

Well I was wondering do the batteries that come with the Cera come charged? I doubt it but if not they'll go on the charger for a hour or two? Just wondering cause I order some spare batteries from japan Panasonic 2900 mah 18650 but they didn't show up yet, the tracking and item there of h disappeared that why it was free shipping cause you never get it LOl.
Well I thought I'd have some pre charged cells waiting for my new device but that might not happen know.
My Cera has cleared customs this morning at 2:35am and is on route to destination so I think I can bet on Monday being the day of reckoning but can't start with out power so hey let me know the scoop on the batteries ok.

Cheers medical mark

Shit wrong thread I don't now how to move it to the cera thread sorry

Relevant to any of the threads as all the different TET "handles" hold batteries.

Most Lithium batteries come from the manufacturer with a 40% to 60% charge. This also happens to be the best charge to leave your Lithium batteries for extended storage (some say extended in this case = months, some who use them for RC say extended = days). When I received a pair of 18650s a couple of weeks ago that I won't have any use for until at least the end of the month, I ran them through a couple of charge/discharge cycles to make sure they were OK, and then I discharged them down to 50% and threw them in the drawer. When I get the shipping notice for the gizmo that is going to use them, I'll pop them on the charger to fully charge them.

Keeping track of when batteries are losing their capacity is particularly important when you are using more than one in a device, like my T1, as opposed to a device like the Cera or Ultra which only uses one battery at a time. In the two vapes I have that use two batteries, I always charge them together to exactly the same amount, which helps keep the stronger battery from prematurely trashing the weaker one. I have a complicated balance charger that even hooks up to my computer that allows for great battery management.

TET used to charge up the Lithium Iron Phosphate RCR123As just before they sent them out, as yet another of their unannounced little benefits to their customers, but I don't know if they do the same with the Cera batteries, or even if they have the time at this point.

tl;dr Charge your batteries up when you get them.

The ultra with the 14500 thermovape sent me today was at full charge ready to go. Apparently they do have time :)

hey bud
very glad to hear that they are still repairing! i have weird feeling that i burnt out my heater core. I saw a light spark in the bowl but i thought it may have just been a bit more finely ground pieces that may have gotten thru the bowl...Unfortunately it hasnt come back on for me. Hopefully i can work that out with the company. Thanks for info and best of vapor experiences 2 u

Hey Dank,

Thanks for the good wishes! I've had them re-build cores for me in the past and have been very happy with TET's customer service (IMO they are a company that TAKES THIS VERY SERIOUSLY). BTW, my device never failed - I only asked TET to customize (increase power) my core to work best for me! (And as OF posted, if it's less than a year old it's still under warranty). Not to be a fanboy, but when a company stands behind what I believe to be a superior product, they've earned and deserve my continued support. And if you're wondering, I've purchased the new CERA w/LL and EO carts and I'm, how should I say this, "HAPPY AS SH*T". Good luck on your vaping as well!

Hi NN,
Care to explain how TET increasd the power on your T1 core?
I would like the same thing done to mine, but to be honest I have never heard of this before, how is that possible?

They don't work nearly as well as the LiFePO4 based cells that TET recommends for the T1. (If you're looking at Tenergy's, they're the ones with the green band at the bottom).

Here's an amazon link for them.

I can't wait ti get my PA next week cause the n,y real down fall is the battery life, beside that I love this thing.
For me the PA was a complete game changer. It's not just like a battery that doesn't drain, it is actually a different experience. It takes a little longer to get to "full glow" with the PA, but after that the constant power really changes the dynamic of the T1. I think my batteries drain pretty quickly during a session, and power at the end of the session is not equal to power at the beginning. The constant power level provided by the PA means the load gets hotter and stays hotter during the whole session. I don't know if you're getting Pipe's PA or the TET PA, but I can tell you that the TET PA is awesome!

Now I can see the potential to combust but is you pay attention and keep a good airflow its a none issue

Maybe, maybe not. As I mentioned previously I've experienced full combustion (smoke, clearly identifiable burnt cherry in the bowl) within the first second of the first hit of a fresh bowl. This after using the T1 for over a year, and using the same technique and material that I had used many times before.

If/when you manage to combust with the T1 it should be obvious right away. Very hot, very smokey...HORRIBLE taste. Immediately cap the mouthpiece with your thumb and wait for 15-20 seconds before releasing it. You should see a burnt cherry in the bowl. I carefully remove the cherry with tweezers or small scissors to keep it from "polluting" the rest of the bowl. Your T1 will taste like combustion after that, but a thorough cleaning will remove nearly 100% of the odor. After a few sessions without combusting the odor will be 100% gone.

I've had them re-build cores for me in the past and have been very happy with TET's customer service (IMO they are a company that TAKES THIS VERY SERIOUSLY). BTW, my device never failed - I only asked TET to customize (increase power) my core to work best for me!

Shortly after buying my first T1 (and falling in love with it) I bought a second as a backup. The backup remained completely unused for about a year while I used my first one. One day my original T1 stopped producing vapor. I noticed that only one coil was glowing. I started using the backup while preparing to send my original in for repair. Within a few weeks the core on my backup failed completely! It would glow sometimes, then fade out. Sometimes if tapped it lightly it would glow again, but it was clearly not right.

I sent both cores in for repair. When I received them back from TET one of them was clearly bent. When screwed into the switch the top edge of the bowl was not level, making it very difficult to screw the cap on. I managed to get it straightened out and used it once before it died mid-session. I am sending it back for another repair.

TET customer service has been excellent. I have every confidence in TET's products.

The T1 cores can fail though.

awesome info everyone. i know this is a dumb question but ima very cautious person with these devices. i have a t1 that i will hopefully be getting rebuilt quite soon. BTW thermovapes, cust service is great. In the meantime a friend gave me her thermovape evolution(which i appreciate). I wanted to know if the thermovape evolution can be used with the same batteries as the thermovape t1. I have only been using the 2 batt that were given to me along with the evolution but i will surely use the spare t1 batteries i have as well. just didnt want to ruin the connection or device. hope you guys have a great weekend n thanks 4 the continuous help...vape merrily. peace!

It will either run too cold or slightly too hot depending on if it is SV or LV (Standard voltage/Low voltage) The original T1 is standard voltage. (6v) I think if you take apart the Evo and look at it it will say LV on the bottom. If it is LV, you would need a different batt configuration or possibly another type of battery like the ones that come with the Alpha line Good luck!

Just a little further clarification.
The EVO comes in 2 configurations.
SV (6V), uses 2 ea. CR123A batteries, no indicator on the bottom. - same as T1
LV (3.7V), uses single battery, LV stamped on bottom. -will burn out if used with T1 config.

So do not use a LV on SV setup as it will burn out.

Have fun with your new toys.
