Discontinued Thermovape Alpha Ultralite

That battery is, I believe, an approved unit. Like the dents, I would not worry about it.

The exterior is nickle plate. Like an old nickle in your pocket it can pick up surface oxides over time. If it bothers you, they can be easily removed. IIRC at one point TV suggested a commercial 'polishing cloth' for this?

No PA exists for LV gear from TV, the problem bing the supply. No, they cannot modify the 6 Volt unit. Eventual plans call for a PA for Cera, when that happens I expect retrofit kits to be offered for the old lime. Right now, I'd contact Pipes and ask real nice......

I think I got 'em all?

Okie dokie, that's cool then.

And I'll have to search for that as well..

That's too bad about a power supply then. Just means more batteries! You suggest the IMRs correct? Any advantage these protected ones have over the IMRs? I'm planning on getting a few IMRs anyway.. Can you suggest a quality charger for these?

And maybe this went right over my head but who's Pipes?

I think you got em all too, I had to reference my OP, but I had some more waiting!

Edit: You or anyone else planning on getting the Cera? The essential oils one looks quite nice from what little I've seen.

DKits,
Still awaiting mine, hopefully tomorrow. I'm practically dying to use it. Gotta make some concentrates fast!

I've never tried them, so I have no first hand experience. They seem to be basically the same thing as the 17670 TV uses in the big Ultra supply, I suspect they're just fine. For now I recommend the AW brand (important) IMRs as they are the best I've tried. I'd definitely use my WF 188 charger with them at either 300 of 600 mA rates.

Brother Pipes is a clever chap in Canada. He invented a cleaver PA (six Volts) and could probably set you up. I'd send a PM to "Pipes"....

Good luck.

How does everyone carry their Alpha setups? I mean, if you carry it with you of course. I just ordered 4 AW 14500 IMRs, an ultrafire WF188 charger, and a couple of battery cases. I'm thinking I might just rock the Ultra assembled in my pocket with a tip on the mouthpiece (exhibit a, exhibit b) with a battery in and 3 batteries in a case. Hopefully a vial of oil will fit snugly in the spare battery slot in the case. But if someone can recommend a low profile, minimalistic case that can easily be carried in the front pocket or jacket then that'd be great too.. I don't think any hardcase would work well, they seem just bulky in nature.

Good info OF, I appreciate it. I went ahead and purchased a few batteries and said charger.. although I'll be more concerned about the supply of oil rather than enough juice to vape it.

I'll look into Pipes. I'm not planning on purchasing a power supply anytime soon. At least not while I've got my eyes on the evolution conversion kit and some 14250 batteries to power that at 6v. That way I don't have to get TV to rewire it to LV. Of course that means purchasing batteries and a charger, I'm assuming that 6v is better for flowers..

If I have to carry out of the house, it's my Ultra with 1 freshly charged battery inside of it, with the DART, and a small case of wax/oil. That's all I'll need for the day pretty much. Even when I was chainsmoking with the AVA and e-juice I couldn't run the battery down in a day. The DART will get me overmedicated a few times over before I finish the battery, I'd think.

Hmm, well then looks like I've got plenty of juice then! That sounds good cause I'm not even a heavy smoker..

so someone was asking about taking the rev up the mountain, like 3 months ago. i had reported on omi carts, as that was all i had used at the time, but as the season has come around and my go to small travel piece is the ultra and dart i have more data. so this is an excellent combination. the battery holds up in the cold climate and it hits spectacularly. i attribute this to the core ceramic and oil getting warm while the steel? tank is kept cold by the below freezing temp and winds. it's was a little hard at first to tell if i was getting hits as my breath blows out almost the same amount of vapor up there, but by the third good inhale (holding button the whole time) i could tell for sure i was ripping monstrous hits, not only by taste, but by throat tickle and head change.

boy howdy indeed! :)

You suggest the IMRs correct? Any advantage these protected ones [the black sleeved protected (as opposed to IMR) 14500's that TET is shipping with the last of the Ultras] have over the IMRs? I'm planning on getting a few IMRs anyway..

My Ultra/DART came earlier today, along with two black sleeved protected 750mAh AW 14500s. I also happen to have three brand new red sleeved 600mAh AW IMR14500s here, which in anticipation I had already run through a couple of charge/discharge cycles to see how they performed. As I mentioned in a previous rant here, the AW IMR14500s performed beyond my expectations, providing just over 600mAh when discharged at 1A down to 3.0v.

The protected (non-IMR) black sleeved 750mAh AW 14500s are testing out at about 680mAh, which although not as "rated", is still a little more than the IMRs provide. Same test conditions, discharging at 1A until the cell gets to 3.0v. That turns out to be about 41 minutes run time for the black sleeved non-IMRs versus about 35 minutes for the red sleeved IMRs. In looking at the curves, it's apparent that the IMR does better against higher loads; not a lot better, but enough to notice. I suspect that running discharge loads of 150mA (.2C) would show the non-IMR as meeting "rated" capacity, but we don't use them at 150mA, so I didn't bother. I don't think the IMRs inherent ability to provide more capacity under heavy loads is significant with the load that a Revo/DART/AVA core draws, but might be enough that a lower capacity IMR would do better than a higher capacity protected (non-IMR) with loads like a T1/Evo draws.

I don't recall the wattage (and hence current draw) of the LV Revo/DART core, but I strongly suspect that for my Ultra/DART setup, the two different cells will perform essentially identically. OF, your suspicions appear to be correct, as usual.

Blind luck....

DART is about 1.5 Ohms, same as a high power Omicron cart. Maybe 9 Watts?

OF,
I can't believe my package still hasn't made it :cuss:. I know it's the holiday season, but 23 days to stay on the same continent is pretty ridiculous. Especially considering what I paid for shipping.

kingofnull,
Finally got my Alpha today. Great holiday surpise!

What a sleek little unit. I knew it was going to be small (everyone kept saying AA). Definitely a portable and discreet unit. Still wishing I had also got the Ultralite, but happy overall. The Ultra isn't quite shirt pocket size, but it's definitely pocketable.

Mine has an "A" on the bottom. Does that mean this body is an Apex?
Battery is a black AW IC protected 14500 Li-ion 3.7V 750mAh. Not sure how these will stack up to the other batteries TV supplies, or the ones I have on order, but time will tell.

Just picked up some high grade oil the other day and have mostly been saving the experience for today.

Ace: Be happy you got the Ultra as opposed to the UltraLite. I have both. The 10440 batteries the UltraLite uses have just barely enough power to suit a Revo/DART core. barely. The UltraLite is fine for e-juice, just OK for PG (Pure Gold concentrate, which is what I use), and less than OK for concentrates that are solid at room temp. The only way I can enjoy my UltraLite is to carry around a pocketful of 10440 (AAA size) batteries, at which point the slightly smaller size of the UltraLite is sort of outweighed.

I have both the red IMR 14500s and the black (non-IMR) 14500s. If you go back a little in this thread there's a message from me that goes into the capacity differences, etc. (TL;DR is that in our Alpha Ultras, there is essentially no practical difference).

If you really really really want an UltraLite, and TET doesn't have any more, I would consider sending you mine, which I used to use for e-juice, (that unfortunately didn't agree with me).

Oh, and yes, the stylized "A" does stand for Apex. Apex is the e-juice side of TET. If you take the battery and sleeve out of the outer holder, and look in the cutout for your thumb, you'll see some laser engraving that you might find interesting.

Great response, and after a day or so of use and taking your experience into consideration, I'm very happy with my Ultra. And yes, I noticed the Apex branding on the inside.

I've tested it with some high grade dispensary oil, and with some homemade filter wand hash QWISO and it seems to work just fine with both. I actually get slightly larger clouds with the home stuff and it seems to be burning fairly clean.

Definitely a great unit to have on hand .

I forgot to mention, my DART has one dent on it, but it's only noticeable if you're looking for it.

Can anyone tell me if I can use two 3V 14250 LiFePo batteries to run 6V accesories? The manual seems to suggest so, but I've never heard of anyone else doing so.

I have a couple of non-AW IMR 14500 on the way, and I'll probably pick up at least one AW also.

...

Although I have no experience with those batteries, AVA sold an Ultrafire version for just that use. It was, however nominally only 200mAh, so that might limit its usefulness.

I have one of the first MFLB chargers which is white. I assume those batteries are similar to my AW imr's?? Can I charge my ultra batts, on my mflb charger?

actually i think the charger for the mflb batts is Ni-MH and our batts for the ultra are li-on correct? therefor it wouldn't work?

No, bad assumption. You're second guess is much better. Entirely different animals, one is 3 times the voltage of the other for openers.....

You want a charger for 10440s.

A few days on and Im really loving my unit. The DART has had both high and low grade concentrates run through it. boiled it clean today, looks great, but i guess the ceramic will always be stained now?

That has been our experience as well with the LV Revolution and LV Dart tried so far. No amount of the specified cleaning technique will bring back the original color of the ceramic disc. It does not, however, seem to have affected the function at all.

a 20/20/20 dry burn will help the stain disapiate, but as OF pointed out in another thread: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/thermovape-revolution-for-concentrates.4927/page-118#post-318374

Not to worry about minor staining (it won't come out 'white as new'), it won't effect performance at all. It seems to be mostly carbon in the pores. When it's being rebuilt they can torch it hot enough to burn the carbon back to CO2 but it's only cosmetic

There are several useful posts on that very topic from earlier today around the link in the post two posts above yours.

Including instructions for 20/20/20 burns.
