The only grinder I own is a freebie that came from Planet Of The Vapes, a 4 piece. How does it rate compared to a Santa Cruz?

EXCELSIOR!
i think most people will say that Santa cruz is like the top grinder on the market
but i think troy said that the potv is also good

20 yrs ago I got a 2 piecs & 4 piece Space Case Titanium Grinders.
All I know is they perform like they did the day I got them, used daily
for 20 yrs ,Volcano to GH . Lets see where the other great grinders are
20 yrs from now. :>) I love my Space Case grinders.

I've always been interested in inexpensive grinders. This one on Amazon is a 4 piece unique design; it's being sold under a number of names, highly rated and a big seller . Anyone here try this one?

I am not a fan of that kief catcher set up as it looks the same as my SL\x, if you take it out to turn the grinder into a 3 piece the storage area below is next to useless.:2c:

How? It turns into a huge collection area in 3 piece configuration. One of the biggest I've seen in any grinder. I watched owner uploaded videos which really helped to see the setup. Even if it were low height collection area, it's way way more than enough for me.

4.8 out of 5.0 * in over 5K reviews on Amazon is impressive.

As always ymmv.

I love my two piece grinders - I have a large SCS and a tiny SCS. But my favourite tool is my sifter box. So nice to always have quality dry sifted trichomes (?) on hand.

I call it kief usually, but I think that means trichomes with plant matter/impurities. What I get with my sifter box is a beautiful blonde dry sift that almost turns to hash in my dynavap.

If you remove the part(not just the mesh) you are left with a 5mm high collection area. The wire mesh does not want to come out of its housing on my SL\x.:2c:
I'm thinking of giving up on grinder kief too... and it still looks great here :2c::shrug:.

This grinder has at least 10 mm of collection space in this version (newest updated design). And the wire mesh is part of the third housing chamber... making removal easy. Even the dirtiest grinder in my experience has minimal binding in large-chamber disassembly.

I find the issue with grinders over time is that the whole grinding and collection screen area gets sticky (that's why I regularly clean my grinder). Not so much at all the chamber and thread aspects.

And 10mm of collection space is a crazy amount of grind for most people... that's a volume over 1/3 of an inch deep and 2.5 inches wide. I use 1/100th of that space in my use.

The Amazon reviews have lots of owner pics and video. I can't link to many but here are two pictures showing the excellent estimated 10mm depth of the bottom chamber (doing no kief collection). It's upgraded and deep.

Earthling flora is... fascinating.
Could anyone with a 2 and 3 piece grinder (or has had them both) tell me if the 3 piece grinder was a huge upgrade or not? Wanted to buy a grinder for a friend, but he has tons of containers, so wasn't sure if a 3 piece would just be extra for him.

I use a SLX 2.5 supposedly a non stick coating. Med to fine. Nice kief catcher

I have one. A green one, and I think it provides a great grind. I've had it for a couple of years, and no coating coming off on mine at all.
What I don't like is that it feels like twisting sandpaper surfaces together when grinding, due to the rough texture of the ceramic coating...though it DOES help keep the grinder cleaner for a significant amount of time. I've only ever had to brush it out dry.

It's not perfect (no grinder is), and I like my Brilliant Cut Grinder better, but it's still a great grinder that I'm happy to have in my collection.

Some may dissagree (and that's perfectly ok), but I think either a 3 or 4 piece grinder is a significant upgrade over a 2 piece grinder...and a 3 piece grinder is an upgrade over a 4 piece grinder.

I personally love my two pieces with a sifter box. Three/four pieces are super convenient! But the sifter is literally a game changer.

Am I the only who went back to two pieces after discovering sifter boxes?? I like having different sizes of two pieces to accommodate different amounts.

I could see myself possibly having a different opinion on large 2-piece grinders if I were grinding larger amounts to dump directly into something like a sifter box. Though, access to enough herb at a time to make a sifter box worth using isn't really an option for me right now. So I guess a 2-piece just doesn't really fit into my current mostly micro-dosing dry-herb only kind of situation.

Can you explain a bit more how you use a sifter box? Not quite sure how it's used, and googling it gives me a lot of different things.

Basically a wood box with a fine mesh screen. I grind my flower in a two piece, dump into the sifter box, close the glass lid, and shake gently.

The box is magic, it really does collect a quality trichome. Theoretically, if your flower is very dry, it could collect plant material/impurities. I store all my flower in CVaults@62% relative humidity, I really believe this ensures I’m mainly getting only trichome heads. Here’s what I get after simply grinding, shaking, and waiting - https://imgur.com/a/J40GnVW

I think because the base of the sifter box is glass, it makes it so much easier to transfer the trichomes to your jar. I find kief sticks to the metal and makes it impossible to get your grinder to like new again. I simply toothbrush + dish soap then swab with my isopropyl to get my two pieces to like new in five minutes.

Has anyone tried/used those Santa Cruz 100% hemp grinders? Noticed Troy reviewed one and said it made a nice grind.
I was wondering about longevity and hemp plastic/cellulose getting in the herb.

That kief still looks a bit green @grogazola, how hard would it be to put a bit finer mesh or was that particular bud a bit dry as you explained, I thought good dry sift is supposed to be full melt or close to it?

Wouldn’t be easy. I took a pic of the mesh to show you how attached to the wood it is. Also, a better picture of my kief. Definitely not full melt, I never tried pressing it. I don’t even know if it would be half melt. I know there are grades to dry sift, I’m not even sure if this stuff could be a two star? Can confirm it’s potently delicious - if that makes sense! The flavour alone can floor me.

How much kief do you collect percentage-wise? Are you able to use the cannabis in the top?

Ditto. Just mine is gold (cheaper color, guess nobody likes it). My space case just is getting pretty sticky (actually my phone auto corrected "space case" to "poop sticky" because of miss type of another character--not inaccurate, lol), and I dont like cleaning grinders much at all, so I just bought a new one.

The SLX works. It's not "butter" when twisting, but it's easy and clean, and the three piece with kief catcher design, versus a four piece design, I like.

It could use a stronger magnet. I would prefer a magnet on the bottom piece instead of the threads, but the threads are more course, easy to find the turn, and a minimal amount of rotations close it fully.
