Volcano Hybrid

hopefully the concerns regarding the Hybrid will be cleared in the coming weeks and S & B has something in the works for us Hybrid owners.

We can hope, but based on what I have read here and at the vapelife forums it seems like Storz and Bickel are already working on a replacement chamber design. If that's true, then I want it to be as good as it can be, and if that means it takes longer to get it to us I can understand that. Of course I want safety to be the top priority with the new chamber, but I'm also kind of anticipating what it might look like.

Tbh, I hope that they do away with the safety orange coloring, and maybe release a new whip arm design to match whatever style/color this new chamber has. If they can hit both of these goals, get them out in a reasonable amount of time, and give all existing owners a set of free replacements I would be happy with that.

Happy New Year to you as well! :)

From what I know and have read, they are testing with R&D departement the new housings atm, effort is being made :)

Also
Happy new year to everyone! :)

I have an idea not sure if it was ever mentioned, what if they make a large/wide glass joint style attachment, no rubbing metal, air tight, clean flavor and still conducts heat. But it would still need to screw or lock on some how to keep whip function, or Maybe they need to make 2 separate chambers one for bags and one for whips. They should also add a feature in the app to customize how much conduction you could add or even shut it off if you wanted to.

I hope storz and bickle redesign is excellent, I wont except anything half ass or bootlegged. It needs to be all top notch materials and function perfectly this time, even better than before. I still think they need give us current customers some type of store credit or a heavy discount on a future purchases for the hassle they put us through. Paying top dollar for a rushed, untested, poor design is not cool in my book. I'm still extremely sore that I sold my perfectly working volcano classic, plenty, and splinter z set up to upgrade to this poorly designed machine. With all these issues I felt like I got ripped a new one, I would have expected this to happen with a cheap chinese throw away vape, not a top dollar german vaporizer. I hope they come through for all of us loyal customers, we deserve nothing less from storz and bickle.

Can you post links to where they are talking about this new housing? Anxious to know what is going on.

Given the wording, seems like a rework on the chamber not just the housing

... Boom Shiva !
Just hit my first bag of concentrates on the hybrid.

Im a low temp vaporist and this has to be the first time i got such cool temperature hits from concentrates. Just fill up a bag and smoke it like a joint.

I never thought this thing would be a killer primary vaporizer for concentrates.
I regularly use vapexnails and the vrod, dare i say i might just prefer this.

I have had a Digit for 4 years now, I think, and now also have a Hybrid.

I have posted in this thread before, but not too often because....well, at times it has become a bit of a shit show.

I do have some thoughts on the hybrid situation. If you think that any of them are in direct response to any of your prior posts, you are wrong. I am not picking up debate points from earlier in this thread, just sharing my POV which you may accept or reject as you see fit.

1. S&B are incredibly delinquent in making a formal statement acknowledging the problem and outlining their plan and time line to correct. To me, there is absolutely no mitigating factors....they need a public release...and it ain't happened.

2. Someone earlier pointed out that AL oxidizes on the surface almost immediately. This is absolutely true and true of many other metals also. But you can take ANY piece of non-coated AL, swab it with some ISO, and you will get grey residue.

3. After a couple of months of use, I did swab my rings and I did get some grey residue. Not a lot, but there.

4. I have no scratches or galling of the metal as another poster showed was happening to his. Just hasn't happened on mine....maybe yet or maybe just no. Dunno

5. I have no char or melting of the orange plastic of the chamber. But, I don't use a chamber reducer so don't know if that is relevant or not.

6. IMO, you can take an ISO swab to almost anything with metal to metal contact and get residue. For example, try it on any of the threads of a Ti GH. I myself am not worried about the AL Oxide and I don't see it just blowing into the air stream. Not on my unit. I would certainly NOT want AL particles and slivers from scratching that we saw in one poster's pics.

7. This may be a tough one to solve assuming that they are keeping the conduction portion of heating. This will require a contact surface between heater and chamber and I can't think of much that will transfer heat as effectively as AL, but I'm not a materials engineer. But even if made of SS, there will be metal to metal contact and hence metal to metal wear and hence some metal particulate creation.

8. It is for each and every one of us to make our own personal health decisions. To some of us, others seem...well, a bit of a hypochondriac. To others of us, some of us seem careless or blase. We each have to choose what perspective on material exposure we personally want to embrace and not try to convince others (on either side) our our rightness. Its just a personal decision and with that, I do plan to continue to use my Hybrid unless I see some degradation on my unit.

Great post, and pretty much exactly my observations during usage as well, though I have very, very light coloring on one orange housing, and that one has lost a clip. However, as I stated before, I pretty much figured these were like the whip, or the bags, and would have to be replaced, hence the $10.00 price tag.

Yes, S&B dropped the ball as far as a public statement goes, the online shop I bought mine from (a well respected store in the industry) hasn't made any statements, posts, videos, e-mails, nothing. So S&B need to step up fast and get ahold of this thing. The Navy motto of: lie, deny, and act surprised isn't going to work here.

All this being said, and based on the tiny reading I have done on Al2O3 (aluminum oxide), I am satisfied to continue using mine in the manner I have been.

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
To reduce metal on metal rubbing one solution could be to free one of the rings

one is fixed on the volcano, the other spin freely so when you screw the chamber on volcano, the ring on chamber would not follow screwing movement. They will touch themselves ;) without torsion stress

Innovative idea. I'm not a mech eng so I don't know how feasible, but it does show that there are creative approaches that can be proposed and tested out.

I think since it is a home desk top vaporizer S&B should skip all the heavy duty metal and just go all glass or quartz in the mouth area of the volcano and the chamber, we are paying top dollar why skimp. go all the way with the cleanest purest possible materials.

and make that if the glass breaks or cracks, the end user can replace the parts at home with a kit.

Because...and we have seen this before with other vapes:

1. Glass if very hard to make into precise custom complex shapes in production qtys
2. Glass takes a very long time to heat up.....no bueno for adding conduction to the Volcano and I do think that the lack of a hybrid component with the Volcanos of the past was a weakness
3. People will start dropping and breaking glass and complain on FC voraciously about it. MV1 is a perfect example. People started dropping the small glass MP and breaking it and complaining about it. So, they changed to Makrolon for the MP so then people complained about having a plastic MP.

We are indeed a tough market to satisfy.

Considering S&B pretty much pioneered the use of thermoplastic in vaporizer design I would expect them to be about the last company to build a glass vape. It's simply not in their interest and it never has been. The Crafty + just came out after years of people asking for a different material, and it's still plastic.

If you don't mind inhaling from a whip or bag it sounds like you want a Vapor Brothers or something. There's a 20 year old vape with some glass and it's not very expensive.

It actually is a different (improved) material now though, so they got what they asked for! But yeah, still a type of plastic!

After using mostly a Mighty for about 2 years, and trying the new Crafty+ for a month or so, I'm now reaching the conclusion that my "convection only" vapes appear noticeably less efficient for me.
So maybe this guy is dead right to want the Hybrid just without fault, or just with better material that works or behaves like glass.
But I totally agree, actual glass is a long shot with them!

Edit- And now that I look back, it was a tricky question asked. I see where you were coming from more now!
Sorry!

I do think that the lack of a hybrid component with the Volcanos of the past was a weakness
I do love my Digit, but even simply comparing opinions on here, to opinions on the older models from some well known members, this just has to be true.
Well, when a Crafty+ is kinda kicking its ass too I also have to agree!
My Digit is just my reclaim blowing monster now!

I use a Digit for reclaim and I love it, as a result I believe anyone who doesn't like reclaim just never tried it in a Volcano yet!
I remember that shit in a Solo or Pax, even a Mighty, I was just like pah, pah what?? No taste or enjoyment from it with those!
Thank you for confirming the Hybrid performs this task, if not even better!

Is the Crafty+ a different material? From my understanding the Crafty/Mighty plastic has always been PEEK.

e.g. here's a post referencing PEEK from the Crafty thread, dated 2015 http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-crafty-by-storz-bickel.15984/page-242#post-848062

they won´t make any glass housings or different coloured parts...imo they will come with the exact same chamber just more durable and that was it.

i also don´t see them reworking the aluminium. maybe i am too cynical but i think there won´t be any change regarding this metal stuff and the chamber will still be plastic. if someone is concerned about the device now it won´t change in the future.

that is why i say they should give the option for a refund. i have never experienced such a situation, sitting here with a 600 bucks device i don´t want to use, twiddling thumbs for "maybe" solutions and no chance to get my money back.

in general, i don´t want to use this thing anymore, reworked chambers or not. and i don´t believe any "yeah, they are testing the new chambers already" posts on some forums, they officially said nothing so far, why would they let infos slide on some forums, this makes no sense at all.

even funnier is that they try to establish the Hybrid as a medical device in canada....

https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/ej57gk/apparently_sb_is_trying_to_pass_off_the_volcano/

personally, i am done with this company, i just don´t want to use this device anymore. if there would have been a possibility to get the money back i would have moved on already, i don´t need the Hybrid to vaporize herbs anymore...
there are enough other great devices on the market that do that without aluminium and plastic.

I legit hope that all of you continuing to use this thing enjoy it, and have zero health issues due to it. Personally I am not using mine anymore, haven't for weeks and have gone back to the dynavap and mighty combo I was using before. This will be my last post here, I am certainly pretty crushed by the situation, and that i spent about 950 dollars canadian all said and done on something I will never use, and have been denied a refund for, but I have to move on for my own sanity. I will probably sell it to someone locally for 2 hundred bucks or so just to get it out of my life and sight. Take care all and good luck with the hybrid, I will never support s and b again.

I am gonna wait and see what storz and bickle is gonna do. if the new chamber is not up to what we deserve and expect from a high end deluxe vaporizer then I will continue to try to either get a full refund or just sell the dam thing. I am gonna give a storz and bickle a chance to make up for there error, everyone deserves another chance. I just hope S&B learns from this, do not cheap out on us, don't put out a half baked device and charge us an arm and leg for it and expect us to enjoy it, and don't be sneaky by changing the instruction manual behind closed doors, be honest with us, be up front and communicate with your loyal community, let us know what is going on on the website or on the forums. we are not dumb don't treat like we are, because we will always find out in the end. we spend lots of money on your devices, parts etc. don't screw us, we don't deserve that type of treatment.

I still think S&B needs make up to us and give its customers some kind of store credit or a heavy discount for a future purchase when they send out this new chamber to customers affected. they should not be allowed to make such a big blunder and then just replace the chamber and kick us in the ass and tell us "have a nice day." they need to do something to make up for all this crap, they should be held responsible for money and time lost. they really should apologize to the community for the trouble. I am still very pissed that I sold my perfectly working volcano hybrid, plenty and splinter z set up for the new hybrid! I will never make that mistake again. these vape companies are very quick to take money from you, and don't test the designs properly and don't do much after they mess up.

I emailed S&B about this with the same picture of aluminum dust that I posted here. Sent the email the night of 12/29/2019. So far, no response.

If we don’t hear anything from S&B next week, I’m going to reach out to Canopy Growth and see where that takes us.
