?? does it make any sense to have a pre-press that goes beyond hand pressure??

Would a "puck-maker" that you can put in your hydraulic press (with no heat) make for a more effective puck?
I'm not suggesting big pressure, but would a higher level than hand pressure make for a better puck?

If i update the space of caged plate and compatible to pre-press, it will scratch the contact, up-platen become hard to run smooth, it will not fit some hydraulic rosin press.

So .. please move cage kit away and press with hydraulic ram directly.

That is what I meant, but was not clear.
Can you load your upcoming pre-press with buds, place it directly in a hydraulic press (with wood above and below so no metal-on-metal), and then lightly press/ no where near the max pressure. So, it would be much tighter puck VS hand pressure to form puck ??

Can one do this?
From all the pros here, would there be any benefit to a really compacted puck that you then press in the dabpress caged unit?

I see, I will try

If I make puck maker made of PE material, it is hard to suit to current caged plate,
If we update space of two hot plates from 33mm into 50mm, it will be
I use a hand operated clamp to squeeze the prepress. It works fantastic and keeps the hydraulic press free for squishing.

Great

Pressing the buds in a pre-press appears to cause you to get a darker rosin but it doesn't seem clear to me how much pressure it takes for that change to happen. Pre-pressing material in a pre-press mold will be required the more surface area that is there. A square/rectangle puck maker will not be effective pre-pressed with hand pressure unless the mold is quite small. If you are wanting to press large amounts of flowers (max out your plates) at once, pre-pressing in a mold with the assistance of your shop press is about the only way to go.

Currently I am working on testing multiple bottle tech pucks using gentle pressure to fill the filter, or a pre-press mold pressed gently by hand pressure using round filters, mostly because I have had a lot of luck with that method but also because I dont wanna run 30g of material at once. Sort of like a nice happy medium, I can press 10-21g at a time using that method.

I do wanna try other methods, its just not up my alley at this time! Still testing cultivars searching for the 30% yielders

3x5 caged plates arrived yesterday, packaging and everything looks great!

20T w/ gauge Strongway press was on sale for $360 and will be here in 7-10 days. Guess I have some more reading to do in the meantime, but I'm ready to start!

elmomuzz

That just happened...
@dabpress.com Roger, the square pre-press would be nice for trim and buds for sure. For hash and sift it shouldn't need any pre-pressing, but I could be wrong. @elmomuzz can you confirm? Maybe it helps to spread the hash evenly through the filter?

No prepressing of hash is required. I’ll hand shape it a bit so it fits nicely into the bag. I get it fresh so I don’t need to hydrate it. I just store it in a bag in a cool dark place until I want to squish some.

Hydraulic press for use with dabpress: Hack for easily moving your press.

If you don't have room for dedicated shop space/ floor space for your heavy hydraulic press, I found a great hack for moving your hydraulic press. Now I can store it in the corner and easily move it into place when using it, using snowmobile "ski wheels". They are designed to go under each ski and one unit under the track, to move a 600 lb snowmobile, so they are heavy duty.

Mine fit perfectly under the Strongway 10 ton benchtop!! This makes it super easy to move the press when needed.
The Strongway weighs in at about 110 lbs and the Dake B-10 at 165 lbs so they are chunky to move.

If you'd like to store your heavy press "in a corner", this can be a great helper for your @dabpress.com experience :)
FYI, I find the Strongway to be solid built, less expensive option vs the Dake, and 50 lbs lighter for moving around.

i was gonna drive 40ish miles to buy a dake 10 ton for $310 but for $210 plus free shipping i might just the northern tool one.

isn't the Northern Tool $240 and free shipping??
Strongway unit seems like a good value

MinnBobber,
You know.... when you start figuring in the cost of a better quality press, the units from DabPress with the built-in presses seem more and more affordable.

I love the compact design of the dp100. 3x4 plates are perfect for personal use and a footprint that's bare ONE square foot. And, it weighs in at less than 50 pounds. No snowmobile mover needed. LOL

I have never given the All-in-One units much thought but lately..... :)

Just over $500 for the dp100. When a standalone press is costing $300.

How many rosin presses can you own? LOL I am talking myself into it. LOL

For the cost of one of those units, you could have 3x3 plates with a 6-ton A-frame press for under $300 and have sufficient PSI for a full extraction. Those units I think really need a small pre-press mold, like 0.75" diameter max due to their payload (1 ton max I believe?) I believe those also need an air compressor so would need to factor in that price too.

I'd like to see more all in one style presses.

I agree with @psychonaut though, more PSI is needed for a proper all in one, most are lacking there.

One should be able to squish at least a 7g bottle tech bag on the 3x3" plates with a 10 ton press.

C'mon... all real men have a compressor. LOL j/k To be honest, the noise keeps me away more than anything. LOL

I don't know about 1 ton being a bad thing. I often think we are way overkill with the presses we use. I was pressing buds with my bare hands when we started this turd hunt. LOL

I guess a 'side-by-side' test is the only way to know. LOL I really don't have room for another press. LOL

And, I must admit, it is taking a little getting used to but I like the bigger payload on these 3x7 plates I got. Neat to watch the river of rosin. LOL

And, yeah, I was using 1" diameter pucks with 2 grams each with my small A-frame press. Anything bigger just didn't do well. For something like that, you're right. About 3/4" to an inch max. That's cool for personal use (unless your personal use is like mine. LOL)

I looked at them and this is just my opinion:
dabpress makes great quality plates and caged plates ---a great value compared to other company's plates.
For small all-in-one units (from any company), I worry about the "press" part of the package.
This one looks like it does have press built in (no external compressor needed) BUT look at it----it looks a little wimpy to
me for long term pressing.

The long term reliability of these small , all-in-one presses makes me nervous.

For small footprint and lightweight, the Rosin Tech GO looks like very reliable--simple, basic, heavy duty construction, with no hydraulics to go bad??

There is a lot to it, I have been pressing at the same temps with the same press times for the most part, using the same amount of material in the same filters. I've sort of plateaued, however, I have found 2-3% better yields going up from 1700 PSI to around 2500 PSI using a 2x2.5" filter filled with 3-5g of buds bottle tech style.

As far as all-in-one units go, I think nugsmasher mini really has the right idea, I just dont think that jack is appropriately paired with the plates. Perhaps I'm wrong here but that was the reason I never bought into one. Seemed like a cheap-o 3x5 dhgate set was a better deal paired with a HF 12-ton. Granted they're not exactly comparable units, but I was more interested in the price! Before dabpress came along, the caged units were around $600.
