We have a viable third party choice, the libertarians. The problem in our country is special interest and money. Libertarians don't have much in either of those categories, so they get excluded, even though a large percentage of the country probably identifies as a libertarian.

To think that the world is made up of two types of people, politically, is a really strange concept for me.

James Comey is a Republican, let's hope he can be nonpartisan. This is worrisome for the Democrats that this hasn't been resolved.

FBI's Comey: I feel 'pressure' to quickly finish Clinton email probe
Handling investigation 'well' is top priority, FBI director says, rejecting any 'external deadline'

FBI Director James Comey said Wednesday he feels "pressure" to complete the federal investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's private e-mail server competently and quickly.

However, Comey said the pressure is similar to other high-profile cases the bureau handles such as terrorism investigations.

Story Continued Below

"We want to do it well and we want to do it promptly. I feel pressure to do both of those things," Comey told reporters during a roundtable at FBI headquarters. "As between the two things, we will always choose 'well.'"

Comey indicated he's not taking into account political events, including the upcoming conventions or the fall election.

"I don't tether to any external deadline," the FBI chief said.

Comey also swatted away a series of questions about the status of the investigation, describing it only as pending. He did repeat that he is tracking the probe closely.

"I remain close to that investigation to make sure that it’s done well and has the resources that are needed...My goal in any investigation is to do it well and do it promptly, especially investigations of intense public interest. All of that remains true,” Comey said at the outset of the hour-long session. “It remains under investigation.”

Asked about complaints from some security clearance holders that they would be in jail if they acted similarly to Clinton, the FBI director declined to comment directly, but said: "There's no special set of rules for anybody that the FBI investigates."

The FBI began investigating Clinton's e-mail set up last summer, after the intelligence community's inspector general reported to the Justice Department that classified information appeared to have gotten outside authorized channels.

Comey pledges 'no outside influence' on Clinton email case
By JOSH GERSTEIN

The State Department has declared classified more than 2,100 of the messages on former Secretary of State Clinton's private server, including 22 deemed "top secret."

Clinton has said that none of the messages were marked classified at the time she received them. She has also disputed that any contained highly sensitive information and said that she wants all the messages made public.

Several top Clinton aides have reportedly been interviewed by the FBI in recent weeks, including former Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills and former Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin.

Clinton and her team have made a point of not describing the FBI's work as an "investigation," but alternately as a "security review" or "security inquiry." They've also noted that the issue was referred to the FBI not as a criminal matter but as an intelligence breach.

However, in response to a question Wednesday, Comey said he wasn't familiar with the term "security inquiry" that Clinton and her aides have used. The FBI chief said he considers the work agents are doing to be an "investigation."

"It's in our name. I'm not familiar with the term 'security inquiry','" the director said.

However, he passed up the chance to repeat a reporter's characterization of it as a "criminal" probe.

I can see your point. How viable the Libertarian party is, I'm not sure.

Libertarians seem to be republicans on steroids. They support religious freedom bills like what we have in my state that excuse and allow bigotry. They are also opposed to the civil rights act (title II especially), and marriage equality. About the civil rights act, Gary Johnson was booed at their caucus when he said he have voted for the act.
The one positive, well at least as far as Gary Johnson is concerned, is MJ legalization. But that one positive does not outweigh all the negatives the Libertarian party stand for.

Gary Johnson supports the non-aggression principle, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton don't. I just can't in my heart support someone who uses force to achieve social or political goals.

Stop the whining!

When I said stop the whining I meant it to include Bernie and all his minions and true believers; not singling out Carole, though she does whine quite a bit

Guys, I'm trying to stay out of this thread but if the discussion here devolves into accusations of whining and the like, then this thread will be shut down.

@Gunky please refrain from name calling and using terms like "whining" or you might earn a rare warning point from the lounge.

Let's keep it civil, folks.

:peace:

I guess my feelings are with the FBI investigation hanging over the democrats heads, they need to have someone waiting in the wings, just in case.

So what happens if Hillary wins the presidency and something really bad is found out, what then? Would the VP step in or the democrat's runner up? Thank goodness the republicans have a lunatic running for office. I'm curious who Hillary will choose for VP. Could there be an impeachment process? Not trying to argue. Just inquiring minds are curious.

That's one of the reasons that I liked Bernie. He didn't have the baggage.

The whining accusations and the name calling does get old and tiresome. Hopefully we can treat each other with some respect. I think most of us enjoy this thread and would hate for it to get closed down. Thanks @Stu for being so patient.

Edit
I'm old enough to remember the 1990s when Bill Clinton was in office. I really liked Bill Clinton. All the investigations about the Clintons, all of the bazaar stories and money (tax dollars) that was spent trying to find out something to discredit them. I agree it was ridiculous.

I will be the first to say it was nobody's business about Bill's sex life. People have affairs. Wives look the other way. It eventually turned into a circus. Hillary decided to stay married to her husband. The end.

It gets tiring and the American people don't want to go through it all over again.

This email server is a different story IMO. There's an FBI investigation. Obama appointed the head of FBI James Comey a few years back, who is a republican.

THE HISPANIC NATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION REJECTS TRUMP'S RACIST ASSERTIONS

Washington, DC – The Hispanic National Bar Association represents the interests of nearly 54 million Hispanics/Latinos in the United States, which is approximately 17% of the U.S. population. By his recent derogatory remarks about Mexican immigrants, Donald Trump’s disrespect of such a large segment of the population of America is not only unbelievable, but outright wrong. His comment that Mexico only sends rapists and criminals to the United States reveals a racist nature that cannot and will not go unnoticed by the Hispanic National Bar Association nor the Latino community.

Those who seek our highest public office should attempt to engage all Americans, not divide us. His comments are clearly divisive and racist and do nothing to promote equality and justice for all. Trump’s statements reveal a bias that all Americans should reject and respond to accordingly. We cannot stand silent and allow Trump to promote such racist and discriminatory behavior. This is the time for all Americans to take a stand against his insensitive, offensive and untrue statements.

The HNBA calls for a boycott of all of Trump business ventures, including golf courses, hotels, and restaurants. We salute NBC/Universal, Univision and Macy’s for ending their association with Trump, and we join them in standing up against bigotry and racist rhetoric. Other businesses and corporations should follow the lead of NBC/Universal, Univision and Macy’s and take similar actions against Donald Trump’s business interests. We can and will make a difference.

@Gunky at first the comments were no big deal. That quote above that you highlighted wasn't recently. After a while it gets old. You have a right to voice your opinion as the rest of us do. I won't comment any further. We will just agree to be respectful.

The quote was from March 30 (click the up arrow in the quote header next to your name or here), it was more or less the same discussion we are having now, and you are still wh-, um, saying the same thing. Whatever. I do very much hope that 6 months from now when your infatuation with Bernie wears off a bit you think back on your current near-daily complaints about rigged elections, the DNC, unfair super delegates, etc. and consider how it might have sounded to somebody who didn't drink the koolaid.

...consider how it might have sounded to somebody who didn't drink the koolaid.

The only difference here is that you just drank a different flavor. ;)

Ok, gonna turn my head around to the thread topic.....

How successful do ya think Obama will be in trying to persuade Bernie to drop out?

@BD9, do you have any sources to cite regarding libertarians being opposed to marriage equality? This lp.org release from last year seems to state otherwise.

I'd be hard pressed to think that any libertarian candidate, or informed member of the party, believes that bigotry is acceptable. Society has a role to play and bigots can be held accountable for their actions by the people.

I'm hoping Bernie will be Jill Stein's VP. I've seen an interview of Jill Stein's where she said she wouldn't be opposed to the idea.

I don't understand the world's fascination with the Clintons. The Whitewater scandal was enough to see that they were a precursor to the policies which robbed Americans. I'm talking about predatory lending practices with the planned removal of purchased assets. I read that that's what they did to oldfolks in Whitewater.

Oh right, they were never found guilty by doing what they normally do, deny all knowledge and hide records.

Every Clinton scandal I've read seems to have that pattern.

Again @Gunky that quote wasn't from recently. I couldn't remember when but the end of March in an election isn't recently. I thought it was just 2 or 3 months ago and I was right. Why is Hillary Clinton so important to you? Why was it so important for you to quote me from 2 1/2 months ago?

Respect and that goes for everyone. I have to remember to include myself because I feel the urge to say more. I guess I drank the anti Clinton koolaid. I don't even like Bill Clinton like I used to. He gets so angry with folks that don't like his wife. I guess it's a husband's natural protection mechanism. Let's hope his wondering days are over, since he's a grandfather now. Hillary doesn't want to worry about that. She'll be the president.

Again I don't have any illusions that Bernie will get the Demo's spot. He wants to have an input in the Democratic Party. Who knows too something could happen to Hillary and her chances. Anything is possible before Nov. This is a crazy election year, I've never seen anything like it.

I was basing this on comments Rand Paul has made in interviews. He has been courted by the Libertarians and his father is Libertarian. Rand believes in religious freedoms, as do I, but he goes to the extreme and says you can deny service to individuals you disagree with because of who they love or what ever reasoning you see fit.
I feel that if you have a public business you should serve the public. Not who you feel is religiously or spiritually fit.

Just to put a light on libertarians views on government involvement and the party's stance on marriage equality and discrimination -

"1.3 Personal Relationships
Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships."

"3.5 Rights and Discrimination
We condemn bigotry as irrational and repugnant. Government should not deny or abridge any individual's rights based on sex, wealth, race, color, creed, age, national origin, personal habits, political preference or sexual orientation. Parents, or other guardians, have the right to raise their children according to their own standards and beliefs."

Only wishing the Democrats the best. Hopefully with Bernie's clout he will get some leverage out of this and get some of his goals accomplished. I'm just hoping those supporting him will vote for Hillary. That's the big question now.

I'm really looking forward to Rachel Maddow today. Barbara Res Trump's head of construction from the 1980s will be on. She is a Hillary Clinton fan is what I hear.

Also Elizabeth Warren will be endorsing Hllary. If she was picked for VP that would leave her senate seat vacant and the demos are worried that it would be filled by a republican. So I'm thinking she won't be chosen for VP - bummer.

I'm hearing on right wing radio that they are saying dump Trump. I've read online. I don't listen to right wing radio. :doh:My head would explode.

DONALD TRUMP
Who is he?
A brash real-estate heir turned real-estate failure turned recovered mogul turned reality-TV star turned politician.

Is he running?
And how.

Who wants him to run?
A plurality of the Republican primary electorate, but especially a large Caucasian bloc, from white supremacists to aging white people who feel their clout is being lost and the country they know is being taken over by minorities. Even now, many of the Republican Party’s leaders and luminaries remain appalled.

Can he win the nomination?

What else do we know?
He cheats at golf—probably.

I've read their preamble. like many here I am also fed up with the two party system so I have looked at the Libertarians.
I admit, I may be painting with broad strokes but when I see them courting Rand Paul and this comment by Gary Johnson saying religions and individuals should decide what marriage is, I became skeptical.

Johnson opposes DOMA.

“As a believer in individual freedom and keeping government out of personal lives, I simply cannot find a legitimate justification for federal laws, such as the Defense of Marriage Act, which ‘define’ marriage. That definition should be left to religions and individuals – not government. Government’s role when it comes to marriage is one of granting benefits and rights to couples who choose to enter into a marriage ‘contract’. As I have examined this issue, consulted with folks on all sides, and viewed it through the lens of individual freedom and equal rights, it has become clear to me that denying those rights and benefits to gay couples is discrimination, plain and simple.”

I've been watching Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden speak. All I can say is wow. With Donald Trump talking so much there is a lot of ammunition right from the ass's own mouth.

When Trump was talking about after he becomes president, then that judge better watch out. Sounds like threatening a federal judge to me when I heard it from Trump. Joe Biden was speaking about that. He said pretty much the same thing. Everybody's been listening Mr. Trump.

Let's hope his wife and daughter can't control him. We want to hear more. Now that everybody in the Republican Party have woken up.

Edit
True Joe has a lot of his own baggage. I wanted him to run a year ago. Not saying Biden is without any skeletons in the closet. I'm just so glad that some folks are really nailing Trump for the things he's been saying, on both sides. Hitting it on the head. Not dancing around the issues.

Trump has gotten away with so much. He can't continue to be getting away with the things he's been saying.
