April Shipping Update

Hey Everyone,

We have an April shipping update to provide some numbers on where we are and how long it will take to get your unit. Shipping dates have been caught in a cycle of being regularly pushed back due to a series of unforeseen events. In the past this has delayed production far beyond what we planned for. It is our fault for not building in more time to the estimations and this is a direct effort to correct that.

Due to the track record of unpredictability from our own manufacturers and slow downs for necessary design improvements, we will be implementing a revised way of creating shipping estimations. In the past we have estimated delivery on production capacity and not added additional time for potential problems. Revised estimations will have a significant buffer, with the goal of providing a more accurate picture of when your unit will be delivered.

There are currently ~5200 delayed orders. Hopper Labs today has the assembly capacity of 550 units per/week. This is increasing with the addition of new machines and assembly techs, but we will not include those speed increases in our new estimations. If things were to move smoothly, the backlog of orders would be clear in just 9.5 weeks. Instead we will be spreading the estimated delivery dates over the next 16 weeks. The estimated delivery date on your specific order will be updated through the website in the next few days.

In a further effort to keep potential delays to an absolute minimum, you will no longer be able to add any additional units to your existing order. We originally viewed this as a perk to having patiently waited, but we understand how this is unfair to others in line. If you want to order additional units you will need to place a new order and wait at the end of the line. You can still add accessories at anytime and they will be shipped with your order.

Please note there are a number of people who placed large orders during and just after the end of our crowdfunding campaign. We are fulfilling these orders as they arrive in the shipping queue, like any other order.

Hopper Labs is doing well and growing to meet the demands of customers. The quality of the products we create is very important to us and the Grasshopper reflects this. Below is a short video shot a long time ago but never shared.

It's an obsession but it's pleasin'
I see this as great news. Clearly, they have heard the noise from the community. Feels to me like they've finally gotten their manufacturing issues under control to where they can give some attention to the communication & queue issues.

Can't wait to see what complaints people have about this update.

ETA: Anybody want to volunteer to start tracking what people's latest ship dates are versus what they are changed to as part of this new update?

I agree, but I really wouldn't be surprised if PayPal is requiring this transparency.

Either way it's a win.

Finally....I wonder if their Paypal account is frozen? Either way this is the type of transparency I was waiting for, I am back on-board! I hope by Aug./Sept. all kinks are worked out and I get a perfect hopper. Until then I spent some money on a FF2. I will use the FF2 at home and the Hopper for the road!

I like the transparency, but it would be nice to know the number of units on order in addition to just the number of orders. 5200 delayed orders isn't a useful number if a large number of people ordered two units or a storefront ordered 1000 units. It doesn't provide us with with a real view or how much work GHL has in front of them.

It's not clear, but I believe they meant to say 5200 GHs are back ordered, that is the only way the 9.5 weeks to complete them at 550/week makes any sense.

Cool new video, I find it amazing getting to see the inner workings and I'm looking forward to an iFixit type tear down at some point.
Holding this thing in hand without a battery, back or front end is crazy - it's so light and small. I reckon those three removed components make up 80% of the weight, maybe more.

Probably just complaints from the people on here saying we shouldn't complain and just be patient. :)

Good newz indeed!!! Finally some real honesty and transparency!! Although my waiting is not even considerable with all the other nut cases of a more than 1 year waiting time, but still...
So let's say if we get the worst scenario that your Hopper is among the very last ones let's say, then I would imagine that you would have to wait an approximate period of around 14-16 weeks max, which makes it around 4 months time let's say and even before that since this is the longest time span according to this email...

Patience is a great charisma!! That's what life has showed me so far!!

Ok, I changed my mind. I decided to refund and wait till a retailer has it. I just don't want to pay duty and have a chance of having to send it back and forth for repairs. I will wait till it is locally available - looking at you VapeWorld

Hi Guys

How my Hopper has been update.

Unit is working great giving beautiful clouds of thick vapour back end still getting warm but not hot hot.I treat it like a joint and it is the closest vaporizer to feel like pulling on a fat one, it is special.

My blue ti unit went back to Vapefiend as the cap tread stripped some how. One minute the cap was on tight a check of the herb re tighten cap and round and round it went. After a few more bowls and me twisting, the internal tread was gone and the cap just fell off.
Vapefiend sorted it and I have a new cap that tightens perfectly on my unit. Sent on Tuesday back with me today at 11am I can not fault them I think they are an amazing company and will continue to purchase from them, in fact I bought a Stainless hopper today but have not told the wife yet it comes tomorrow. Damn VAS I am surrendering my bank card to the wife now but who cares I got two Hoppers 4 batteries and a pot full of my favourite erb:love:

Welcome, thanks for posting. Though you had an issue, nice to hear it was resolved quickly - and sounds like one-off, not one of the usual troubles.
It's pretty clear that we 'like' this kinda thing here!

Me also. I can get 3 bowls if I use lower temps more, but that 5 through water is just so tempting.
if you wanna your batteries to live long, you shouldn't count how many bowls you vape from one battery. Li-ion is living longer if you recharge it after every session.

Legitimate question here folks - how's the reliability been on these newer units? I'm really not seeing too many complaints about hot backends or multiple replacements anymore......

Maybe it's just me but it almost sounds like they got most of the kinks worked out of the design.

Has anyone here had a Grasshopper last for 6+ months then suddenly experience issues? I know we have some hoppers in the wild with over a year of use without issues, but I'm curious to know just how reliable these vapes are by now.

@Bass Vaper got his 7th replacement recently. i don't know what was a problem but it happened recently.

I use a battery or two in a session. Load new battery, go through 2 loads and recharge. Sometimes it's dying at this point, occasionally is dead, usually 25% remaining but I see a difference in performance there. This tells me it wouldn't get through a third. Not gonna change battery every two bong rips, sorry.

I'm hoping in the not too distant future they start looking into/developing a longer lasting battery of some description. 750mAh is pretty poor. Something like 2000mAh would be nice, although I don't know if that would affect performance in any way.

Though a much larger capacity battery would be fantastic, I think it's quite unlikely. 2000mAh is close to what you get from a 18650(those go to 3400mAh), which is a much larger battery volumetrically. I can see some improvements if they were able to get a big player like Panasonic to build batteries for them but given the minute quantities I can't see that happening.
