No, there is no spring. Is there a spring in the hopper for the battery contact? I'm wondering if in some cases the contact on the back end isn't perfect and you are getting some arcing causing the heat buildup.

No, there is no spring.
Finally got mine this morning, just before going to work. I will test it tonight but at first and quick sight, it looks like well manufactured
And be careful with taxes : I had to pay 45 € extra for customs fees. (Living in France)
I had a loaner for several weeks, Titanium, no color. It worked perfectly and I was pleased with it.please guys, if your experience is only "yes it works perfectly and I'm pleased with" take time to to tell it to us!
But if ghl is reading this thread, PLEASE don't make us preorders wait another 6 months for our hoppers! Having said that, I'd rather wait for a perfect hopper than get a problem hopper sooner.I had a loaner for several weeks, Titanium, no color. It worked perfectly and I was pleased with it.
After having had a chance to handle a fully functional one for an extended period of time (compared to the failure rates reported so far!), I was more than satisfied with the product. I personally am willing to wait another 6 months if I had to for my order, now that I know what the vape is capable of.
Obviously it's not the perfect vape, but it filled a niche in my collection which is currently missing - the quick single-hitter stealth vape.
I'm missing that hopper now that its gone (shipped back to it's owner), REALLY can't wait for my preorder to ship
You won't have to pay 45€ each time as the replacement part would be shipped as a warranty claim and no taxes will be due on it. Sux you will have to pay to ship the faulty unit back though. After just one (a nice one) try, my unit doesn't heat anymore. I'm so desapointed. If I have to pay 45 € extra each time I need to change a piece, I won't play that game anymore and go back to my Volcano and Crafty. I've tried everything, charging one night, changing batteries... So sad :-(
Sorry to tell you I canceled my pre-order, not cause the wait but cause the actual reliability/durability issues....
I own severals vaporizers and the first to be sold was the one who need repairs and since I live across the seas it's could be expensive for me.
Exactly. I canceled my pre-order for the same reason. I have some vaporizers that were very expensive new, and never lived up to the hype they received, so I never use them.
I'm not allowed to name names, but let's just say I've got a really beautiful, red paperweight, with an interesting glass window on the top. By far the most expensive paperweight I've ever had the misfortune to own.
On the other hand, I've got a Solo which is incredibly boring, but it sure works, and does everything I need it to do. Maybe it doesn't heat up as fast as I'd like, but I've realized that gaining a few seconds while I'm sitting at my desk browsing the web anyway is not worth risking $$ on something that may crap out on me eventually anyway. From the sound of it, the probability of that happening is just too high.
And if the company goes out of business, I'll have an expensive silver paperweight sitting on my desk next to my red one. Maybe, when that happens, some clever individual can make money selling replacement ink cartridges to fit the Grasshopper's body. At least then it will be useful for something.
Come to think of it, if I needed to pay for shipping every time the stupid thing started flashing red and blue, or smoking out the back, then it's still too much trouble to own one given how frequently that seems to happen to people around here.
And, finally, I frankly don't need that form factor. It's cute, but it seems like there is a high price to be paid for that cuteness. A lot of compromises and points of failure. Like a short vapor path (with a silicon condom to protect your lips), bits that need to screw on and off, potential high resistance to current flows, custom battery size (and short battery life), etc. etc. And for what? So you can have a little vaporizer that looks like a pen and fits in your pocket?
Cute, and some people really, honestly require that particular form factor. But for people (like me) who do not actually need a vaporizer that looks like something else, imagine how much better it could have been if they would have started with a completely blank page, and just designed the best possible vaporizer they could, regardless what it looked like?
It would probably be a lot more reliable. It would probably be a lot nicer to use, too. And, even if it didn't look like a friggen pen, there's no reason why it couldn't be beautiful in it's own way. There's an inherent beauty in form that perfectly follows function. Besides, I'm not after a fashion accessory that also happens to be a vaporizer: I just want the best designed, most functional, reliable vaporizer for my money.
Even if the Grasshopper worked perfectly, it clearly is NOT that.
But, hey, my hats off to all of the brave souls beta testing this product. As for me, I'll wait for one that is designed from the ground up to be a VAPORIZER, and not some cute, pen looking thing.
HOW IS ITJust got my replacement body.
Because of the hype. And it looked cool. And I sometimes like to blow my money on cool looking, overly hyped gadgets that I end up hardly ever using.Entitled to your opinion, though the Solo is not even close to a substitute in my mind. I prefer Firefly to Solo greatly, give me on demand pure convection over session conduction any day, better taste stronger hits less waste... And Grasshopper seems just a better form factor with temp control and no stirring. Definitely sounds like you didn't need or want it, makes me question why you even bothered ordering...
thanks for letting us know that you have no need for an on-demand, purely convection vape the size and shape of a pen.I finally got a hold of one (borrowed it from a friend) and this thing is highly overrated. It does nothing any more special than any of the 100+ vapes I own except it does heat very fast. For having to wait months to years to receive it, only having one type of battery you have to buy from the company that they are out of stock of that has a very crappy battery life, you have a 50/50 shot of it working properly that you have to pay to return for each time it breaks, to poor company management skills, coming from a company that basically lied to y'all about being beta testers "backers" lol, but has a lifetime warranty but a not lifetime company (by the looks of things) and gives the most vague updates that are reworded each time; this vape is far from the best vape out there. This thing is average at best for all factors involved from the purchase to in hand to use. I very seriously doubt I will ever buy one now that I have actually used it for almost a day. The FW3 IMO is better than the GH easily.

For shame.
I agree it looks cool and I can imagine the ride has been a tough one for GHL's but the reason I am upset and probably others is their seemingly lack of transparency when it comes to pre-orders.
I don't know how anyone can hold a GH in their hand and not marvel at the craftsmanship. The machining and attention to detail are magnificent. These guys took a huge risk to bring a revolutionary new vape to market and I'm shocked by the amount of disrespect being thrown around. For shame.
