I've noticed that when i'm changing the screen in the bowl my heat up time decreases so if your crafty is taking long to heat up change the finer screen. Also i've bought a Space Case 4pc grinder (small) and i'm not that happy with it, first the price is ridiculous second the holes are too big, i get a very course grind. My old 4piece grinder which cost me 15 euros is performing equal maybe better then a grinder that cost me 50 bucks.

Some of you may think I'm crazy, but I have used a few coffee grinders, and many metal grinders, and honestly, for what I need, I think the SnB plastic grinder works VERY well. I twist each load for no more than 5 to 10 seconds and get a very nice fine grind.

We all love our little accessories and toys we buy to improve our sessions, but honestly for me, the little plastic cheapo works as well as anything else I could use. The two exceptions I can think of off the top of my head would be, A.) If you are grinding in bulk and are just sick of the time grinding a half ounce or more takes. ( I watch tv while I grind so I really don't mind the extra time it takes over a coffee grinder. B.) those who want a keif catcher obviously will not like the SnB plastic grinder.
( I'm not interested in the kief. )

If you just love adding accessories to your collection, and I understand this as I can be this way myself, and want a quality metal grinder, then go for it. As one person pointed out, you can always grind upside down. If you are wondering, however, while you sit and grind with your stock SnB model, if a metal grinder will let you enjoy a better quality of grind, then I would not waste the money. ( A metal grinder will give you the option of buying something bigger that can grind more all at once though. )

Just one users opinion, but there it is. :peace:

If you find yourself wondering this, contemplate using no grinder at all. I love it!
.......................................................................
Do you use nuggets or
snip with scissors for a very coarse "grind" that isn't a grind at all?

The S&B grind is way too fine and contributes to material getting up in the cooling unit. The SCS shred is much better IME . . . :peace:

While I respect your op T-dub, I'm going to have to say that I never get even a shred of vegetable matter in my CU. I get nothing but thick golden oil. Do you use the fine screen?

Material being "too" fine for me, has not been an issue at all. Perhaps we use in different ways that make the difference. :hmm:

I dunno. Just relating my experience with the stock S&B grinder compared with my 3 piece SCS shredder. I use the stock screen in my cooling unit.

On another note, S&B received my Crafty yesterday and I have a package coming my way today. Again, awesome service . . .

Congrats, had great service from them myself.

Screen is the difference then. The finer screen does cause a very small draw resistance, and I'm not a fan of draw resistance, but it is slight and the fine screen keeps my CU clean enough that I only clean once every few weeks.

I have not experimented with a larger grind and the stock screen. When I recieved my Crafty I already had a stash of fine grind I made for a previous vape. I saw the size of the stock screen and knew that it would not keep my material out so I switched to the fine screen right off the bat. Maybe this is something I'll try as well. If I feel the extraction is just as good, I would enjoy the increased air flow.

I get zero vegetable matter with the fine screen, and I kind of like that. I save the oil for my brother who loves it. t-dub and anyone else using a stock screen, if you grind a bit courser, are you able to keep the CU clean of dabis or just mostly free?

I get an inconsequential amount of dust right above the stock screen which poses no problem. I have to clean the CU because of oil buildup, not this powdery residue.

Sup folks,

Let me present myself with this easy peasy DIY water tool adapter for those that may have some Solo stuff laying around, like me :p

MATERIALS:

- Your solo water tool adapter or straight stem if compatible with your water tool
- High temperature solo size silicone ring

REQUIRED SKILL: A single handed monkey can do it.

Load the stem bowl and not the Crafty. Full convection bonus btw ; consider rising the temp a bit.

Slap me if this has already occurred to some one, swear I read most of the topic.

Some pics for your enjoyment:

I was getting lots of "oily bits" when using the stock screen, so I determined that it was allowing too much material into the CU. Once I switched to the fine screen, there were no more "oily bits" to be found. T-dub, you should give it a go and see if you notice any difference. I don't grind fine, either.

That's why I love these forums. What is obvious to one, may not be to another and this forum is a great place to idea harvest, and share your own discoveries.

Just today Sticksandstones has me wanting to try a unground bud in my crafty, Tdub has me wanting to try the original screens with a less fine grind, and Churrocaman has me wanting to experiment with my solo pieces.

Also, to those that own EQ's, don't forget the elbows make great water adapters as well.

Actually I have no desire to restrict the draw, I like it the way it is, and like I said before cleanliness has not been an issue.
FWIW I didn't notice any draw restriction when I put in the fine screen. The only difference that I noticed was the missing scooby snacks in the CU.

I tried the Solo Gong in the Crafty. It worked ok, but the stem didn't stay in very well unless I held it in place. I also had to bump the temps up a bit to get good vapor (as you would expect). I think I prefer @Ratchett's SonG with the CU for ease of use, but it was fun to do in any case.:science:

Depending on the stem diameter it may fit better but I wouldn't leave it unattended, at least the ring makes it air tight.

On the plus side you can just pop it out and only use when dragging which makes the bud taste and last longer, unlike the Crafty battery though since you won't be using the conduction part.

A dedicated adapter that takes advantage of the locking mechanism will sure be a better option but didn't have one of those laying around :ko:

I want to open a small debate that think hasn't been brought up yet.

My unit is nearly 100 hours of use, only having used herb and taking good care of the unit. It's one of the first units CY0029XX and had to be serviced at 50h usage due to sudden death syndrome, guess they changed the battery since hour count is reset but that has nothing to do with the upcoming question.

The issue is that I'm beginning to notice is a minor ABV flavor at the start of the session, even after having cleaned the mouthpiece, bowl and with the screen pulled out and throroughtly cleaned as well. It may be from the minor ABV ring that has formed in the fix between the metal ring and the cone area which I've been able to clean a bit with the pointed side of the poker tool but not completely.

I also find that the scratches created by the sponge (which I only used with half charges and regret) are getting some minor gunk (pic at bottom).

I'd like to know if you guys may have any tip to have this areas cleaned, have tried everything I could think of that wouldn't risk the vape (alcohol pads included), but my worst fear is that it may come from the insides of the heating chamber in which some ABV dust might have gone (seen black dust in the bottom part of the bowl under the screen while cleaning) after some usage time.

I still have to try using the vape without herb after a full cleaning to be completely sure and I may be just paranoid (noticed this on the first hit after the last bowl cleaning) but has anybody else felt this same issue? Before someone suggests it I'm not dipping this thing in alcohol unless the manufacturer tells me to :p

A pic to illustrate, has been used a bit since last cleaning.

So I bought my crafty when it first released in the UK, and now I have finally gotten around to upgrading my phone to a compatible model to use the app. However, I have now found out that I need to send my Crafty away for a firmware update but I am unsure how to go about doing this.

Do I contact the vendor I purchased from? or the manufacturer directly?

Try warming the unit up, then turning it off. While it is still warm, dip a q-tip into some ISO, then turn your crafty upside down and swab so that ISO will not run into your unit. The heat makes what you are cleaning, more pliable and easier to clean.

Also, a little tip for those that don't know, having to do with the ring around the top of bowl, I'm not sure if it's a very high heat plastic or a ceramic ( does not feel metal to me. ) this ring is VERY easy to keep clean by swiping your thumb or finger around the ring quickly.

Do this right after you open and empty the bowl while it is still warm or hot. I like to do it while it's hot enough that if I just left my finger on it, I would probably receive a burn. if you swipe quickly with your finger, not trying to swipe the whole ring at once, do 1/2 to 1/3 swipes to cover the whole ring, you will actually feel a oily residue on your finger. If you make a habit of this, the upper ring should never get very dirty. And I would imagine it may even help with odor. ( Although I don't think this alone is going to fix Charrucaman's problem. )

Just please don't burn yourself and then blame me. lol. Be cautious about the ring until you have a good idea of what temp you are dealing with.

I use the flat side of the picking tool to crush down the dried nug after some hits or mid session. Then I use the other, smaller side for a quick stirring.

I used to do that with my LSV, but the finer particles would get through its coarse screen. I don't have a crafty. Do you foresee any problem with doing it this way in the Crafty with respect to little particles getting farther down into the unit?
Thanks!

I haven't tried this with my crafty (it still sparkles ) but the bowl on my Vapman was dirty (real dirty) and i tried everything! even sat with cue tip and ISO for 20mins and no change, after almost giving up i tried a piece of magic eraser  and within a couple of mins all was clean and shiny .

Could also try a Hoover/vacuum at the bowl then just above the power button (both ends of the air path) to clear any tiny leftovers.

Good luck

I think i remember S&B are the only ones that can have anything to do with firmware :hmm:, when i spoke with vapefiend about possible crafty issues they said some things (i would guess replacement) they can handle and others have to go direct to S&B, if it was me i would ring vendor to check, but probably a S&B job.

The last few pages have some advice regarding dealing with S&B direct, from shipping labels to getting an answer on the phone, most have gotten great results
