I just saw this product on TV commercial on CBS Sports and just started laughing.
Was thinking about this post.

I don't like the Ascent car charger the cord is too short. It's ok to charge but if your passenger wants to vape while plugged in, it's not going to happen. We've talked about that in this thread. It could even be for legal reasons?

My 90 year old mom thought the Ascent looked like an electric shaver once. She was real with it and was very sharp. It does! Right on mom.

I got the same problem with my Ascent (less than one year old): the silicone lip around the bowl is slowly self destructing... I have no idea where the little bits end, I hope it's not in my lungs... (also notice how two holes of the glass stem merged together, again no idea where the little glass bits went)

And the hard plastic also develops some grinding marks that you can clearly feel when passing the finger over them as little bumps.

Sorry for the two pics quality it's all I could do...

My glass stem never did that I got a few I use in my herbal air the small stem fits perfect. Push it in good amount glass vapor path lol

For the last couple posts posted recently, I received this message from someone who works at DaVinci, who you can tell knows their in's and out's of the machine. I think what he/she wrote helped put ease to my earlier question about the black material surrounding the chamber.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I just read your post regarding your concerns on residual polymers and metalics contaminating the vapor and in turn reaching your lungs and entering your body. We use all food grade, heat safe materials. The silicone used for the seals in our vaporizers are boiled, then treated with an autoclave in order to ensure there is no contamination. Other than that, there is nothing in the heat path that would be considered dangerous to inhale. That being said just for extra comfort I would definitely do a burn off. This will get rid of any residual flavors or things you don't want to vaporize, similar to burning off a brand new pan before cooking with it. You can see many different suggestions for burn offs in the thread, but I suggest 400-410 degrees Fahrenheit for on full charge.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Cornwalis: I would suggest in the future, probably cleaning your device. I can tell by your picture that its stained with sticky herbal, waxy residue, and probably is causing the silicone to rub up against each other every pass. I wouldn't worry about broken particles of silicone entering your body because your body would degrade it like food anyways. Are you sure its the silicone going through the stem or the herb? My guess is the herb. The silicone would break irregularly and have more a chance to get stuck in stem than flow through normally.

To Kerozen: I'm not sure what to say about the glass stem, that's highly unusual; however, a bigger pass for the vapor to get through might mean a bigger hit (if you want to think positive of the situation you are in). However, I'm inclined to believe your stem is clogged and causing that type of degradation. In terms of the black silicone, even if they were to pass through the hole, which is highly unlikely just due to pure geometry, it would probably get stuck in the glass stem, rather than pass through. In addition, your body would degrade it and process it like normal food anyways. The scrape on the plastic is probably due, again, to other hard contaminants sticking to the residue from the herb and scarping it by every pass. My guess, the scrape is actually coming from the broken pieces of the degraded, hardened silicone.

More than likely, just due to the sticky residue from the herb or wax, with every slide you take, those silicone materials are pinched off to the ground with every pass, than it all going into your lungs. Even if small bits were to enter through the oral cavity and into the respiratory and gastrointestinal system, but first through the glass stem, which I highly doubt (your glass stem being clogged would have 10X more chance to clog than they flowing that easily through), your body's enzymes, foreign-body macrophages, and normal stomach acids would collect, come in contact, and degrade/rid these minute particles easily without any real bodily harm or implication to your body organs. Heck, you vaporizing the herb or whatever else you use, would do more impact to your body than these very minute pieces of food grade silicone.

But definitely, if DaVinci offers the warranty and there is a defect, use it and in the future, keep it stick-free the best you can. Mine's brand new and I can tell the stick from the herb is already there. Not in the chamber, but the sides where its scraping.

He might well know his Ascents, but he sure is WAY off base health wise. Silicone rubber is basically inert, your body can't do much but encapsulate it. Eats some and it comes out in due time. Breathe in some dust and you'll have to eject it like you do other similar size and density debris. Unless you're a coal miner, in which case your goose is already cooked......

It is absolutely incorrect to say 'it's degraded harmlessly'. Making such an incorrect authoritative statement, let alone repeating it under different conditions, calls the accuracy of the rest of the information into needless question?

I clean it. At the end of every day I think a lot of grime get wedged into the swivel witch you don't want to be jamming stuff under their as for doing a burn off my unit is almost 1 year old so I think the burn off is long gone if you inhale glass you would know it. Rubber no but odds are unless it's super fine rarely I inhale a chunk bud like rare it usually lands in you're mouth but that part would technicly be wearable Not mater how much it's cleaned it will wear from friction. so what you're saying is I use it 10 times a day so I need to clean it 20 times with alc once befor I load it and once after each use I actualy msg davinci to see if I culd buy a new gasket as over time it will wear with the amount of pressure from the leading hits the gasket and press it down also the side with no hodge would always wear less as their is less friction do to less pressure forcing on the hinge I'm no engineer but I am a mechanic silicone n rube + friction heat and ozone It's all wears down over time and never mind the opening for stiring if you don't use the glass jar you always have material rubbing across it the gaske n the bowl you're always sucking the load up to the top did not even email them for warranty claim just to find out if I can buy that new tasked n if it was wearable item like O rings like on the s&b mighty it's a fair question I've also thought of rounding off the straight outer edge on on the lower sliding half and polish it smothe would make a difference also for when the edge meets the gaske while closing

Sorry for spell mistakes I am disabled with brain injury. After all I tried my best

I kind of thought of this while I was writing, but didn't quite write it down clearly.
I think you'd have to talk about quite a lot silicone to pass through those tiny, tiny little holes in your glass stem for a long period of time.
Due to the mechanical friction caused by their Ascent, the silicone would more than likely tear apart, rather than degrade into super perfect tiny little pieces into your chamber, and ultimately into your lungs.
Even if they were to get hit by that heat and into a form of vapor, we'd have to be talking a super minute load. Small enough, that yes, even those foreign-body macrophages in your respiratory tract could easily take in and carry out enzymatic ability, or if that abundant, out the other end.
The herb consumed would probably surpass the silicone amount by 1000% because it's more than likely after one pass, you're cleaning out your browned herb, and the torn pieces of silicone with it (that is to assume a large piece broke off and went into your chamber). This compared to the daily amounts of herb you consume.
The type of damage (scrape compared to melted waxy look) on their Ascent looks to be more mechanical than it does heat, so you would probably expect those pieces of silicone to be large pieces (definitely large enough not to pass through the glass stem).

To Cornwalis: I'd definitely bring it up to Customer Service. So far, my experience with them has been great. And I'd expect them to do the same for you. Let us know in another post what they said, so we can get an idea of what to expect if we ever run across this situation. I think what you write are valid points to bring up and require a good response from them.

You guys should let anyone post in any thread.
In fact, I appreciate anyone willing to write anything related to the Ascent here, especially if it opens up good conversation.
Who has time to search every spread of topic in this already large website?
I certainly won't.

The Ascent by Davinci.
Greatest device known to mankind.
So happy I got it for the holidays.
Been telling others in person about my experiences with it.
They are long time medicinal users as well.
They said they had been wondering about it (the vaping technology).
I tell them it's worth it.
I tell them that the V2 Pro Series 3, I hear, works just as well, but for $100 cheaper.
You wouldn't believe their reply...
For an extra $100 dollars, I'd rather pay for the Ascent.
As if $100 dollars isn't small change for a new device they know nothing about.
Sold him out on the idea of pure glass chamber and ceramic bowl.
Told him the V2 Series Pro Series 3 isn't all glass and ceramic.
I think he's going to buy The Ascent now.

Just opened up a box from EDA, I'm really stoked to get this BEAUTY a try after work. I've been reading the thread so I know some good tips, but anyone got words of encouragement? I got lots of time before I can try it:bang:

Remember, you're dealing with conduction here, exploit that for best results. Well cured, fairly coarse ground bud packs best I think. Give it plenty of time between hits for the temperature to recover, a full minute is worth trying. Don't try to suck it out faster than it wants to come, pulling cold air in won't help at all. Order some glass flowers to try, they are a bit of a PITA to load but IMO greatly improve output.

While various temperatures are fun, I suggest you do a few shakedown cruses in the 390 to 400F range until you get the feel of things.

I'm sure you'll become fast friends.......at least until the next vape comes along.......

A coarse grind is good. You don't get as much product in the stem that way. The glass pipe screens from Amazon work great and I highly recommend them. It helps to keep the herb from flying around and works well as a spacer. @OF was spot on recommending them. I also use a bit of cotton on top.

Also the GonG works better for me when using as a mouthpiece. I've been using an @Ed's TnT WonG it works great too.

I like the temps above 375 and work up to 390. It depends too on the herb you are using.

Dry flower, glass flower, dry flower, glass flower.

I decided to go for the vapor cycle for my first session. I did 365, 385 and 410 all for 3 minutes. I don't know if it's honeymoon or what but this things pretty impressive.. I do think I'll have to get a nice custom wong for it. I feel like I should get another ascent too..
