I am moving apartments today, and went for my al. stem out of convenience.
She rips, but the herb I have only vapes well when ground fine and I am getting so much crap through the screen.

Are any of you all using finer screens? If so, do you know what their micron count is?

Yeah, I use fine screens... no idea of the size, but a lot finer than the stock ones...

I do have to clean the finer screens very regularly though or they become rather blocked and badly affect performance. No worries, either pop it out, torch it, brush and you're good to go, or an ISO soack will do the trick.

I ISO soak my bowl on the AL stem quickly and using only a cap full of ISO by elevating the mouthpiece end a few mm's just to the point where i can pour a cap full of ISO into the bowl without it all running out the mouthpiece. Let it sit for 15 mins, run hot water through it and then hot cap/empty bowl hit or two to dry it fully...
No problem really, I found the stock screens to be very open and I'd rather do this than get a mouthful :puke:

Hey ataxian,

Is that j-hook from dhgate? How are you liking it?

Cheers
TF

It is a dhgate product, also sold on ebay and ioffer for more.

I like that. Can I ask you what you had to pay for it? I have the j-hook and that really looks like great way to get a better view of what all is goin on than any of my current pieces and I expect it is "reasonable"...

I see you are using that REZ stuff. Does it actually save cleaning effort? Worth the cost?

Edit: Damn, I see there is a whole thread on Rezblock. Your opinion is still solicited, but I will go read the thread (or part of it. Its 35 pages) for the full skinny.

they're about $20 on dhgate, mine was $28

No idea on the screen size, but yeah I switched to a finer one, too much material was coming thru the stock screen. I had some in my screen bag that were already the right size. :)

I got a pack of fine screens. I much prefer them to the "standard" screens.

Put 2 standard screens in the bowl, it'll be finer than the fine screen. It gunks up more, but you can just vape it off.

Well I have been lurking this thread for a while and decided a few days ago to order the lotus and it has arrived!

This thing is a heavy hitter even compared to the solo! I did accidentally combust 2 bowls which called for an iso bath to get rid of the smell and taste.
Now I have gotten the flame the right length i believe and this thing is incredible. Perfect for at home or portable.

Funny thing is I have a PnP on the way and I don't even know if I need that any longer.

I say that turquoise cap is mighty attractive... Is that the j hook from medo or ezvapes?
Can anyone take some pix of the grav labs hook from the lotus site? The slope/curve is pretty distinct and I haven't been able to find another like it.I'd like to get a better look at it..

Also thanks @pigfoot
I contacted ezvapes. Currently their lotus is out of stock, but before I noticed they told me they would be restocking the turquoise cap in the next week or two. I wonder if they just hold off until all the colors are out before stocking up again. Either way ,i was also glad to be assured they work directly with the manufacturer therefore all parts are the latest version, (even though their gallery photos depict older versions) although I wonder about the new plate and if @Max Jitter plans on stocking retailers with the new one or wait until customers send in their cracked plates?

Decisions, decisions

Well looks like my date with the lotus is pushed back another two weeks. :luv: But it's okay, my love can only grow  I've heard people who buy experiences vs materials are generally happier .. Sooo is the lotus an object or an experience?

That is a picture of the grav hook with the turquoise cap. It's a nice j-hook, I've been enjoying it a lot (connected to an ash-catcher and such) - never though I'd enjoy j-hooks, but thanks to @ataxian, I've come to really like them!

I would suggest getting the natural wood cap - it "ages" better. While I love my black lotus cap, the primer is white and quite visible as you scratch or chip the cap.

I'm actually considering to give this cap to my less fortunate (still combusting) friend, and buy myself a WPA kit (give him all the accessories, and keep the natural cap)

The lotus is still one of my favorite vapes, I really enjoy this vape. Especially whenever I think about the old-days when I would sit out on my porch and combust with my Molino bubbler. Many of my friends absolutely love the Lotus, after the first session, they're sold.

Maybe I'll give out the WPA kits as birthday gifts this year..... I hate being the only person who vapes among my friends!!

The LOTUS is a very good vape.

The JHOOK is so cool I mean "AWESOME" with the LOTUS.

BLUE DREAM and KIEF even work!

A JHOOK (SHERLOCK) is a game changer for a lot of glass water pieces as well!

Tom I had to buy 5 of them!
dhgate is were I got them.
The BLACK LEAF bubbler I drop and cried like Chuck Norris.
What made it so wonderful was the mouth piece.
This JHOOK had the small style that I love.
And yes this JHOOK works well.

So....I was about to pull the plug on a Vapor Genie because I need a flame based vaporizer for hurricane season. A good friend here told me I should consider the Lotus. Please remember I have lost the use of my left thumb and cannot grip anything. I'm having a lot of trouble doing things, dropping things, etc. I am a little concerned because the top stays on with a magnet, and "comes off easily." I will be holding this vaporizer in the palm of my left hand (can't grip anything). Do you think this would be a problem? Any discount codes I might have missed?

Thanks guys. :)

The top on mine you can turn it upside down and it won't fall off.

As for balancing on a palm I just tried it and it was difficult and wobbled a lot. I could stabilise it my using it locked between the fingers.

Not a really scientific test as I had to not use my thumb. An idea get a lighter that you can use in the left hand and hold the pipe in the right. My main lighter I use with out my thumb as it is a great design that allows you to fire it with thumb or finger again Im not sure how easy it would be for you.

not sure if this is possible but just got a high idea. possibly if there was some way to attach a set of brass knuckles as like a holder on the aluminum stem and somehow adapt it for use with glass and what not. so basically all you need is like those 4 fingers or whatever to hold the pipe with your left hand and boom you be making clouds

Another thing to consider - there are several torches which have a 'lock' function - which you can ignite the flame and lock it in the on position - this might make it easier to hold while you use your right hand to properly hold the j-hook/stem

Also you can always use the WPA and get a bubbler - then you could use it on a table and all you'd have to hold the torch and lift the WPA handle to clear it after the draw (to prevent blowback)

Good luck either way - the Lotus is miles ahead of the Vapor Genie (Which my LHS stopped selling because of too many complaints). You won't regret your decision. Buy a spare plate, and an extra torch, and you'll be golden for hurricane season!

Hell, you probably won't need the spare plate, but it's really the only part on the whole lotus that can break (puncture). Having a spare means you'll never have downtime!

Don't need to hold it in the hand at all ...Use a table top bubbler. A J-Hooks is also easier to hold more within the palm grasp of the hand without exerting the thumb.

Lol, beat me to it

So there's a "V3" Lotus now? I missed the announcement. Is the only difference the heat plate material? If so, I assume I can just buy a replacement heat plate kit for the new plate to upgrade my V2 to V3?

Funny thing is I have a PnP on the way and I don't even know if I need that any longer.

I actually use my PnP more than my Lotus, but that said, I wouldn't order one now as The Real Vapor Blunt has totally gone to shit lately. Poor design decisions and broken promises everywhere. I hope yours at least comes with the new glass-lined mouthpiece and not the old plastic one that'd either eventually melt, or fuse with organic compounds in the hot resin to for scabby, hard encrustments over its inner rim. And that's when it didn't fall off in your pocket (which it will do as soon as look at it) and dump ABV (or worse, clean green) out its open bowl design and into your pocket lint.

They've been promising for ages that they'd replace the plastic ones with the glass design for free when it became available, but now that it is, they're suddenly asking people to pay for it. :/

Are any of you all using finer screens? If so, do you know what their micron count is?

The Lotus works better with a finer screen, but as has been said, needs more frequent cleaning if you do. Dunno a micron count because there's no fixed requirement, but anything finer than stock will see less ABV particles come through. I use a screen made of wires that look about a third of the stock diameter, which might be slightly too fine as it clogs in a few bowls, but no dust comes through, and it doesn't feel any more restrictive than stock while clean. Probably couldn't go much finer without durability issues.

Also on screens, picking a screen size just slightly larger in diameter than the Lotus's bowl will allow you to install the screen domed upwards slightly, which removes the "dead zone" around the rim of the retaining lip and dramatically improves airflow and evenness of browning. The easiest and cheapest option is to cut a larger screen down a bit at a time until you find the size that "tents" about 2-3mm in the middle, which seems to be the sweet spot. Minimal loss of bowl capacity traded for a noticable improvement in browning evenness. Worth trying.

Pretty sure the only difference between V2 and V3 is that there is a patent number printed on the bottom of the cap. So it's really technically not V3 - more like V2.5 (or 2.1 if there were other small changes between then and now)

I have been told via email from Mendo that they are working on a new version of the Cap which can be assembled with traditional woodworking tools. This may possibly open the doors for us to purchase exotic wood from @Snappo and make/assemble our own caps!

No mention of an ETA on that - it's still probably months (hopefully not years) away, if it ever comes true. But the idea of a nice exotic hardwood Lotus cap is awesome!

(My friend is a lathe expert, he could certainly assist in this process of turning the wood for us, and possibly even assembly if necessary)

Well if they're re-designing the cap, I hope they add threaded inserts for the cap screws, look into using six screws around the rim to retain the plate instead of three, go to a more standard size for those screws that doesn't need an exotic hex key size, and raise the height of the metal liner inside the cap to reach the top of the wood. Some sort of top screen on that liner to keep ABV out of the top heat exchange area would be nice, too, and would also probably diffuse some of the hot-spotting from the ring of heat jets.

Also, if they're trying to boost heat plate durability, maybe a truly ring-shaped plate retainer would be better than the one with the "flower" shaped inner cutout, as the pointy bits between "petals" are going to bite into the heat plate when it flexes upwards, and even if they don't puncture it, the marks they make will provide a starting point for creases, and eventually possibly cracks again.

And this is my five-hundreth post that I'm blowing on this topic, so I hope they take these suggestions to heart.

@Vicki

Got a simple solution
Get the longer lotus
Pile up some books on a table old ones. Get it to mouth height sitting at the table. Place lotus flat on top with a overhang on the mouthpiece end steady it with left hand and bob's your uncle.

@papafuzzers There is a slight paint smell which I hope will go away quickly, I really like the color.

The Grav J-Hook is very elegant. It gets pretty hot when holding it at the bend and everywhere else the holding just feels.. odd.

nxZ1Tv3.jpg

Also the line of sight with the lotus is perfect.

Thank you so much for indulging my request!
I've read the paint smell goes away after a while? Maybe @Ratchett could provide some insight?
Both the blue and natural caps are appealing, however I feel the turquoise better bears resemblance to the lotus flower.

This grav lab j hook business seems to lead to more questions than it does answers..
Okay so on the lotus website, it appears that they offer two styles of j hooks?
fMgltGq.jpg

I'm interested in the one pictured with the j hook kit not the duel stem kit:

ndZ8SvO.jpg

Ezvapes offers this one as part of their new jhook kit which does look like grilled goats, but then even among their gallery photos it looks like they have photographed two different styles:

WAZ7jbp.jpg

The first three look like goat's, But the fourth image resembles the one mendo shows as part of the duel stem??

Are these three different hooks or am I just crazy?:hmm:

No, they should all be the same, I think Max said he needed to update the picture for one of them. The GRAV j-hook has a white label on the front of the female joint says GRAV - you can see part of the white logo on the J-hook with the turquoise cap. - That's the one that comes with every kit from Mendo - I think one of the pictures is an older j-hook style.
