Excellent. Thanks VapeNStone! Love that you kept the vid short also. Just like the Lotus - simple but effective.

I think I am about sold on this thing (thanks Meghan!). Just two more questions:

(1) I scrolled through the first couple pages and didn't see any FC coupon code. Do they offer one?

(2) I'm thinking about getting the j-hook kit and using it as a home vape primarily. Any idea whether I will regret not getting the aluminum stem? I know that's a subjective question, but I'm hoping somebody who has both can ring in with some insight.

I have both the aluminum stem and J-hook. When i first got the Lotus, i combusted a few times getting my timing down. When i added the J-hook, i could see when i was starting to get vapor, so i'd lay off the torch. The J-hook helped me perfect my technique and timing, now i use the stem, more than the J-hook.

The J-hook add on isn't expensive, why not get both?

Excellent feedback. That is one scenario I am considering. I guess the reason I was leaning toward the j-hook kit is that I get a handheld vape that can also be used with a water piece. Gotta think on this.

Well that's a good reason to get the J-hook attachment, you can always get a stem later.

Team NO SLEEP!
IMO There is a place for both the J and the aluminum stem.

For learning and for perfecting technique, the J-hook (or any other clear water pipe) is incredibly helpful.

For discretion, I much prefer the aluminum stem more than the clear J-hook (being that the hook looks closely to a "crack pipe" to the uninitiated).

For toughness and durability, the aluminum stem is a no-brainer and perfect for camping and clumsy users.

If economics are a concern, get the hook so you will not have to buy anything else to use with a water pipe.

If money is not a concern, get them both and live in luxury;)

False Combustion?

Anyone experienced this with the Lotus?

Let me explain I cleaned the Lotus and a Solo stem overnight in ISO with a bit of salt, I poked a copper wire up the lotus to clean out the airways. It didn't seem to get the thick hits that it did prior. Tried some bone dry Cheese that is dust like when ground. Gave it a good session and I heated it up and swore blind it had combusted big this choking hit of cheese. Well I inspected the contents and not even brown still green to yellow got another 2 good hits off it. Emptied the contents out and nothing black at all. In fact since cleaning it takes longer to heat up?

Yeah man sometimes I see some yellow-ish streaks in my vapor. When I inspect the ABV, it's dark brown but no black. I'm guessing it has to do with rapid vaporization because this usually happens when I preheat a little longer than I probably should have.

Maybe miniscule combustion occurs, but not noticeable in ABV?

Get the alu. stem while you're at it. With the J hook it's not a matter of if, but when it will get broken....then your heart will be full of regret. That said I prefer the J hook over the stock stem.

Which plate are you using? The new design?

I've had it a few times where I packed a larger than normal load in my WPA and the vapor was quite thick, almost to the point where I too thought I had combusted. Though my herb is usually charred in one spot more than the rest (I suspect my dented spare plate might have something to do with this)

No I've got the original plate. But I do have a dilemma it's from @VapeFiend.com so I'm not sure if it's pre faulty batch as no problems so far but the unused lotus and plate kit very recently from manufacturer 420 sale discount and dodging import taxes made it a bargain. These could be dodgy and I was tempted to test them out but decided on the one at a time method at least I have double lotus back up!

I do tend to fill it up to the top as IME a couple of light to medium hits due to shrinkage it's a piece of proverbial urine to give it a stir with the ever so handy stir stick and bingo, time for 2 to 3 big hits to finish off.

The cheese was no way even black I tipped it out onto white paper and that was after a stir and a few more hits prior for good measure.

I think bone dry gives dust and dust and heat can create.......
Well just a thought anyway.

if you mean that you poked a wire into the 6 air holes of the lotus... then perhaps what you combusted was some wood scrapings that got sucked in? :)

ps. new member... hi guys :)

I wonder if we lose anything with the loss of the fins on the new plate. They must have been in the original design for a reason as stamping them was another step in their manufacturer. I'm not lamenting them as I don't know what they did, but they must have helped with cooling or something...

@Max Jitter, can you clue us in on that?

The engineer in me think's it's probably intentional to increase the strength of the plate. I'm guessing those indentations would greatly decrease the flexibility of the plate

The only other possible reason I see would have been for thermal reasons, but as @VapeNStone has proved, the Lotus still works great without them.

Which may be why they were cracking with heating and cooling. They also added stress points from the stamping.

Right. If they did help cool the plate after the flame is off, that was nice but not critical.

So here is pictures of the glass adapter I have order to make my custom Lotus glass pipe. As I was writing before, it is not exactly like I wanted in size, but pretty close. Hopefully next time will be the good one ! If you want picture, with size next to it...PM me. So you could also make your own modifications.

What I don't like on that one is the 14mm female joint is too far from the elbow corner ... So one of them (the 70° angle) is almost impossible to use : the view isn't good on the plate.
oSe7zkW.jpg

Also I couldn't plug the stem with silicone ring on that one so : elastic is working.

The other thing is they are both a bit longer (the base) then I asked, cause my intent was to plug a tiny glass stem in them. However, the one with 45° angle (which was a mistake I've seen on picture after work is done) is shorter in both way and does a pretty good job ! Still, the distance from the female joint and elbow corner could be shorter too. I asked maximum 7cm in length and the shorter one is around 10.5cm. The bigger one is almost 12 cm (close to the al stem).
If the angle would be 45° : the length should be like on mine (10.5) to not burn your nose !
My dream : if the angle is 70°, the length should be around 8cm cause the plate is further from your face and MOST of all, the female joint should be much closer to the base and/or the angle between 70° and 45°. I understand my requirements were pretty hard to fit.

In conclusion : this is how I will be carrying my lotus, in a small pouch when I'm out and about (or inside as well) and in places where I know I will be careful with the glass. It is still much more pocket-able (and all in one ) than my previous way to carry my lotus ! It is just the start but I like it a lot ! A mix from the Jhook and the al stem if I could say...

The glass adapter was done by Original Glass in UK. Customer service as been great considering I got 2 glass adapter for the price of one (mistake on the angle). At the receipt I have realized the length issue on both side. Next one will be perfect hopefully !

Edit : one thing such adapter could be used for : connecting a whip and do the action with flame on the plate in a different position. Example : having the whip at your lips and lotus and lighter in your hands next to your knees...

Not for complaining here or anything else... I love Lotus and my avatar doesn't lie !
- About the "blueish" circle discolouration of the diffuser plate, my picture here really show how does it look in real. The picture from @Vapodudule isn't probably showing how does it look in real light, and is much more different representation of this aspect : that's why I was confuse... Maybe you can tell me how is it comparable ? From a private conversation it's seems similar on another lotus user too. My apologies if some peoples got "annoyed" with my way of writing...

-About the blackened wood : it is known that it can happen and I'll just advise peoples to follow the advices : be extra cautious and heating the plate properly with a proper flame if you are concerned by this. The reason of such is : beginner lurking and mistakes, outdoor (no view of the flame), impatient friends wishing to play with the flame,...etc
However it doesn't impact performances in any way... I’ve been using my lotus almost everyday (except forced Tbreak) as a daily driver since few months and love it. In fact I suppose that since the burn-off as been done, it is even better... As I said, the bad is done. At the start I was concerned by the smell which could occur and have never experienced it again. So it is an indicator if you want to be extra cautious. When I got those "too hot" hits feels and smell I was simply exhaling and opening the bowl. I have to say I experienced combustion only a few times! And the most of it was minimal !
I know this information and pictures has been posted earlier, just wanted to show my plate and think it is good as a reminder.
