What I meant was that it's common sense not to saturate the gasket's adhesive with iso, because for me at least it's pretty obvious that would dissolve the adhesive. Since the gasket doesn't get dirty why hit it with iso, all that needs cleaning are the metal and glass parts. I've kept my ff sparkling clean, and have never had to re-seat any gasket. I would hope that once you make the error of putting so much iso on the gasket that the adhesive dissolves, that you wouldn't repeat that same action expecting a different result.
Exactly. Common sense. Well stated.

I think that the initial post about "adhesive" was an assumption on the part of user that the tacky stuff that was dissolving was glue, while any tacky substance was likely THC deposits now thinned by Iso.

I guess. The gasket is on the outside of the port assembly, pretty much shielded from any resin buildup...so I'm not sure what substance he saw that he considered an adhesive.

Common sense would be that they would not show in the cleaning guide a hand wipping the rubber with an iso swab. Common sense would be to us a seal or gasket that would not move so easy. It has nothing to do with a users common sense it has to do with manufacturers using inadiquate materials. Trust me your gasket will move and come lose, as many others have. It's a matter of heating and cooling, shrinking and swelling and those 3 screws loosening. If you apply a little to much preasure or alcohol while cleaning the view port it will move and the gasket will squeak out of place. My common sense payment must be overdue.

Then it's a good thing I never read the cleaning guide :spliff:

I was one of the original purchasers of the ff, and I can't even move the foam gasket if I try with my fingertips. But I'm not trying to pry underneath it, because that wouldn't make any sense.

For those who also have a solo , how does the average sized load compare between the two regarding efficiency and extraction also weight as well ?

My Solo definitely milked more goodies than my FF but the FF may have run a bit on the cool side...replacement on the way.

Others seem to have more success getting their ABV dark brown so my comparisson results may not be fair. ...but I always work my trusty Solo into the rotation. :)

Hi all!

I am thinking what Vape to buy... The Arizer Solo or this FF.

From reading here I get the impression that the FF has a lot of problems. Everyone is complaining, fixing and returning...

Advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

I have had no problems.
Read both threads to make a decision about what you desire in a vape, before you even start analyzing the nature of problems some people might have.
The two vapes are really nothing alike, from the starting gate.. so see which type appeals to you.
There must be a reason that you narrowed it down to these two completely different vapes... and as a first time post, you must have some reason for having already narrowed it down to these choices.

Keep in mind that there have been a small number of returns compared to the amount of sales they have had overall. Sometimes it may look like 'everyone is complaining' when it really isn't the case. It's just that most people get vocal if their vape is malfunctioning, but keep more quiet if it works great. I don't consider it 'complaining' so much as searching for information about problems. For the amount of fans in this thread, I feel the number of problems is rather low.

As one of the people who had a return, I would hate to think you might decide against the Firefly because of the posts I made in this thread. I can tell you the following:

My RMA number was very low. They have not had many returns.

The process was so painless it was not an issue to me. I mailed them my FF on Monday, had a shiny new one in hand Friday.

Even though my Firefly was not performing optimally when I got it, I still loved it. I hesitated to send it back because even at its lower heat I used it a lot.

I missed having my FF immensely for the 4 days I was without it, and when I got the new one I found out that the FF is even better than what I originally had. I love the Firefly even more now.

Simply put, this is a great vape. Every person's criteria for what they want in a vape is different, but I highly recommend the Firefly if you think it will fit your needs. I would not be scared off by possible problems, and I'm someone who had one of those problems...

Re-read, carefully, and you'll see that very few have had problems. Most of us who have been vaping for years, with various devices, LOVE the FF. I personally think it's the most elegantly-designed device I've ever used. (And I had one of the first FFs shipped, it was faulty, I got a replacement, and I still love it and am considering a second FF.)

Don't mistake geeky device-minutiae discussions with actual show-stopping problems. I don't know if there's another first gen device with so much love and so few problems.

The Solo is excellent, and probably better for a beginner (assuming you are a beginner, I'm inferring here...). The FF blows it away though...haven't touched my Solo in the ten weeks I've had the FF.

Great Scott!
So I sent mine back. I'd 1000000% buy another firefly. Customer service has been GREAT so far. The most painful part about shipping it back is that I'll be using one of my other 3 excellent portables while I wait for this thing to come back so I can go back to using it nearly exclusively.

Until the button went really wonky everything was great. Favorite portable vape to date. I made a special request to customer service, but I'm not even going to mention it until I see if they offer it or not. I don't want everyone going crazy bothering them. They are going to TRY to accommodate my way above and beyond request, so if they do I'll share.

When I get my firefly back I'll say this, I can guarantee I won't be opening it if customer support is this good, and I won't be messing with any screens. I have screens that fit perfectly, but my best experiences with this vape were using the device with hand broken nugs and no "mods" to the vape itself.

I'm anxiously awaiting its return. Just sent it out today.

Unless budget is the PRIMARY concern, this is currently my suggestion to almost everyone when it comes to portable vape. In the "price is no concern" category, this is by far my favorite portable vape to date. One needing RMA won't bug me. If I need to send it in another time I'd start getting concerned, but honestly they feel well built besides my button on this particular one after a while.

I have only seen one guy really disappointed, and his comments were either edited or moderated (not sure), this is all that is still up but there was more:

Firefly folks make a pretty pipe, but once it bursts into flames, you will see that the company will sidestep their own return policies and not reply to your communications. Thanks for stealing my money.

I have to respectfully disagree with @mitchgo61 (no offense) and say my Solo blows away the FF. It all depends on what your needs/likes are. I desire efficienct extraction...to DARK brown. The Solo does this very easily...the FF not so much. My buddy with a fully working FF feels the same way.

The FF is a very cool, well made device, but I still feel you really get your money's worth with the Solo...and it's almost fool proof. I have to work too hard to get at the higher temperature goodies with the FF.

Just one man's opinion. I own 5 good quality vaporizers and always use the Solo regularly. But you have folks here with more experience than I that may disagree with me. Each to their own.

EDIT: My replacement FF came this morning. I'll test it out after work to see how much hotter it gets than my 1st one. If this thing can grab more goodies than my trusty Solo, I'll come back and correct this post. Fingers crossed.

I agree....every mod I've tried has either negatively impacted the taste or impeded the FF from operating at its optimal level. They seemed to know what they were doing. :p

Good luck with the new FF! I totally agree that the Solo is easier to use...it has the shortest learning curve of any vape I've owned. It's also a great value given it's 70 bucks cheaper than the FF at its full retail price. I personally find I only get marginally better extraction with the Solo over the FF, and the step up in taste quality and on-demand heat control put it way ahead of the Solo for me.

I love my FF. It is definitely more of a "personal" piece than one you can pass around. Developing your own technique seems to be the most important thing. I get good efficiency, and it stays very clean without too much maintenance. My friend said his Pax is too hard to clean, one of the reasons I was very interesting in the FF. Great customer service, too!

And I can certainly respect that, my friend. I think they are off to a good start with the FF...obviously made many very happy. I just wish it got hotter. My only complaint.

I would have to say the taste edge is marginal at best...Solo holds its own with glass over steel, IMO. But I know the conduction aspect of the Solo doesn't win it points in that regard...two very different designs.

I want to love this thing but feel it's more flash than function. I don't want to have to concentrate on various variables for a decent pull. For me, it's not the journey, it's the destination. :). Just don't want to have to fuck around a lot for vapor.

How big is the bottom screen in the firefly and are there any screens from other vapes that match it ?

To some of us getting into our gear is part of the fun. I find the FF excellent overall. There's perhaps a design decision you may or may not agree with, and that's to give you vapor and not borderline-smoke.

I recently have been revisiting various concentrates, and I'm coming to the sad conclusion that they're unusable. Am I alone? It could be simply a commercial reality, that they use the least attractive parts of the plant, but all of the waxes I tried tasted like industrial waste. Then I tried 2 pre-filled O-Pen-Vape (510 compatible) cartridges. I was hopeful. They taste like burning plastic - and that's when they're wicking correctly! I'd have to be truly desperate, I shudder at the thought of inhaling that again. One old-timer put it well to the butane boys, he said "congratulations, you have made crack". Not so off-topic. I can't tell you how glad I am to have my FireFly to vape tasty buds!

@WildChild I think you'll like your replacement. All it took on mine was to reposition the coil a little. Granted, it takes a moment to get going, but way less than the time to heat up most other vaporizers.

On the subject of cleaning, I'm finding it better to leave some "crap" on the lid porthole. It serves as a particle filter when vaping ground buds. No real need to keep cleaning it anyway.
