Ok experienced major combustion well I hope that's all it was tube smoked out like lnl's and elb smoking also.removed elb immediately n unplugged unit elb is burnt on bottom dont care about elb longs my evo is good after it cools ill try again

LOL all i saw mad was white clouds coming out the tube, i was like wtf, then smelled n gagged lol my elb was also burnt, so i switched it out. the gong on the cloud also got resiny so i cleaned it before it stained the glass.

she runs pretty hot after 6 or 7 minutes of warming up. ive been y happy with 1030 after a full warm up. maybe closer to 10. just dial back.

Yeah i think this beast is meant to be used in the pre noon settings. im about to get my lazy ass up and medicate for educational purposes ;)

You already know I dont want to ship my EVO back, so heres pre noon testing on my unit LOL -- 5 Hits [@ 5 seconds each] and I dumped the herb. THE ELB WAS 25% FULL. I did not get milk on any hit btw, just thick, dense vapor. [and maybe combustion??]

9. Light and Tasty Vapor

10. Tasty Thin Vapor, Still Light

11. Tasty, Medium Vapor, I started coughing.

1. Good hits until the 5th - thick vapor

2. Good hits until 3rd - also thick vapor

3. I was gone. First 2 hits were actually good. Then on the 3rd I think it was over for that ELB LOL I dumped it after the 3rd hit.

That doesn't seem right at all. :(
If you can't get good hits, but either very wispy or combustion, then it can't be working right.
A properly working Cloud (EVO or not) should have completely opposite behaviour:
-Large milks on every temp
-Taste-wise, effect-wise and color-wise different on every different dial setting
-But also consistent if the dial is fixed.
-And consistent heat distribution - my loads from Cloud+ always went out super-uniformly brown after just few hits no matter how nicely it was ground. (In my experience the Cloud only struggles with whole nugs and even those were vaped very nicely)
-And FUCK COMBUSTION! Well, EVOs are supposed to be hotter, but at 12? It took a lot of hits to get a load browning at my 12 with Cloud+.

So bummer! We knew this zero-fault history couldn't last forever. :(

You guys be the judge is that combustion or really vaped bud. Im spoiled with taste now so it might just be me. I dont want to throw the C word around so lightly lol

I very much appreciate the pictures and info to go with them! One q though. Is this the same herb vaped over and over? or different bud vaped each time? the reason i ask is because that would change the vapor at the next level.

I just mean bud that has been vaped at a 9 will have that much less vapor to produce when revaped at a 10. where as fresh bud vaped at a 10 would likely give off more vapor than the revaped bud would. I am only asking for experimental purposes it could change one's understanding of the final product.

granted most everyone would be revaping and turning up the temp as they go. for example, I recall with my old ticker I would vape it at 12 or 1 and then after a few pulls and some stirring, i would dial it up to 3 and then finish it off. the final product looked like light to med coffee grounds.

thx again for hte pics. looks like nice herbs!

Its the same strain of bud. I tried to put the exact same amount in each ELB to keep the weight constant. I showed the fresh bud because you need something to compare the ABV to. I tried to follow the scientific method as much as I could remember it. :p

Edit: I did not revape the bud, thats nasty.

It is hard to say what is going on here based on your pictures but the uneven vaping seems a bit odd to me when I look at it.

2 suggestions:

1. When you vape and the material gets very dry, it can combust at temperature that it might not normally combust. So stop vaping when it gets brownish and not black ish. You might notice this happening at the 3rd, 4th, or 5th hit depending on the heat.

2. Grind your material even more finely

If your unit is combusting at noon, it was most likely calibrated on the warmer side but simply use it a lower temp and it shouldn't be an issue, could just be that the mid point calibration is slightly off. Your description on the picture makes sense based on the ABV so try my two tips and see if that improves anything.

Thanks for the tips SM, I was noticing that on the 1, 2, and 3 dials that each one you will only get a certain amount of good hits before the heat on MY unit kills it lol. Any tips on finding that sweet spot for milking the tube? I remember the c+ made my matrix white. I think I will have to use it on 2 - 3 to get milk but it will only get me about 1-2 hits before you see the coffee there. As far as the pre noon settings, the vapor is thin compared to the 2- 3 settings but the taste is amazing, only in the Cloud did I taste such greatness. :)

This is only my first full day so I'm sure I will adjust but this is good info for anyone with a unit running on the hot side thats confused or startled. I'ma take a break because my mind been running too long, too early.

So is the issue too hot or not hot enough ?

Yeah idk LOL its like it cant find that sweet spot, like the bear who didnt like the porage too hot or too cold

It sound to me a bit like the heat runaway issue few OG Clouds had.

Which was behaviour of heating up indefinitely regardless on the dial if I remember that correctly.
A dead senzor or something...?

I'll take one for the team and return it IF need be. And thats a BIGGG IF lol. I'ma need some heavy testing before I can make that decision.

When you say calibrated on the warmer side, I find it a bit concerning that all the evos are not calibrated the same at this stage of the launch.

Grokit - There is a min max range on the calibration of these units. We have a very unique air path and the way our units heats up which makes the unit work as well as it does. We make sure that there is a minimum usable range that covers the entire vapor spectrum but when I hear about LnL's experience combusting at 12, the only logical conclusion that is calibrated on the warmer side. Your concern is unwarranted as they are all calibrated to have the same range but there will be instances where some run cooler/warmer, that's just the nature of manufacturing. There are other factors like draw speed, moisture of the herb, etc etc that may effect the vapor output, without us being there with Live n Learn, it hard to say for sure. LnL, why don't you take some more time to do tests but based on what I see, I would just hang out at 10am ish. That's where I am at and get 5-6 nice hits before dumping it out and its medium brown.

A well designed cloud to me seems to be one that can get very light wispy vapor at 9, combust at maybe 12 or 1, and do insanely high heat for concentrates at 3. That gives you the user the ultimate flexibility.

There are still lots of areas for improvement that I am sure will show up in future versions. I wish they had digital temp readout and single digit temp control. How awesome would it be to be able to have the temperate at which it combusts match exactly with that temp?

This is where mine seems to be. I just cant seem to find that MILK spot that tastes like its on 10

Will do.

Black ABV is still ABV. I've produced it quite a few times and there was no smoke. In my book combustion produces ash and there's no doubt when I'm inhaling smoke vs. vapor.

Yeah last night I def combusted. the ash was in the tube and it reakeddd. Today so far , I didnt get that far.

UPDATE:
So I turned off the unit and tried again on 11. I took 2 hits and moved up to 12 for 2 more. This is with a 75% Full ELB. Seemed to work for me.

Here is a 50% Full ELB vaped at noon. I got 2 hits in and didnt go further. They were actually thick, about 75% transparency.

From what @Deadshort480 has previously shared, it sounds like the broad spectrum extraction might be depleting your herb a bit quicker than you are used to, which then makes it so dry that it will combust if you keep trying it. And, you aren't using much herb (which is good), so there is less mass there to hold moisture/absorb the heat.

I'd try maybe three good pulls, then cache that ELB out, and see how it works for you.

On the bright side, I'm anticipating that when mine ships, it will be perfect. :)

Yeah, I think Im not used to how quick its heating it up. I might have to remove the ELB between hits to extend the life of the bud. This is the first full day of testing so I shall proceed.
& as far as perfect goes. Thats the plan, make it perfect so I can comatose instantly lol.

Agreed. Combustion is pyrolysis, it fundamentally decomposes the material. You can cook the hell out of an organic material without it combusting.

EDIT: Of course, if you are getting actual ash then that sounds like combustion.

The Evo is an ELB killer. With sufficient lung power one draw can kill it, evenly.

Yesterday completes a 24/7 run with the Evo. All temp ranges, no combustion, however, due to its super efficient extraction I don't expect much if anything past the 2nd draw on a 80% full ELB at the noon position. In fact, I have settled on the 11 o'clock position, 50% full ELB, one long draw and dump. My ABV is used for medibles down the road. This thing toasts the entire contents of the ELB uniformly in one draw. Sometimes, I'll add a little more, and tap the ELB between the 1st draw and 2nd draw, then dump.

Took a day or two to settle on a routine, approached the popcorny taste a few times in the beginning.

I do, and I consistently get it. How big a draw an individual takes and how long it's held can vary considerably. That's part of why the answer to 'how many hits can I get from a bowl' is totally hit and miss as far as accuracy. The consistency of the herb loaded and the moisture level are also factors.

Mine doesn't, nor do I want it to.
