Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

That's a lot of coin for a device that needs to be tweaked and hacked to work. Keep us posted. Posts like this keep me from pulling the trigger.
He was using the first one, there is a difference between units. I was skeptical but the new ones are better!

I don't think that's a fair statement to make. Ascent works just fine out of the box used as instructed (assuming it's not defective of course).

Guys are trying to use smaller loads than the design or trying to improve performance to suit their desires.

Spend your money as you see fit of course, but I think it's wrong to say the design is defective. Like all other vapes the 'one size fits all' is illusive.

Does anyone who's actually tried the Ascent disagree that it does work if used as designed? That is do you agree it "needs to be tweaked and hacked to work"?

I've actually tried the Ascent (And both GoG adapters), and it has(IMO) performed perfectly. I am incorporating the glass flowers (2 on the top of the load). I've tried various flowers, full melt, and kief. I really haven't had any material suck thru. My unit never off-gassed. (1.1 I think) Not sure what needs tweaked? Seems to be working as intended.

No but you were basing it on a defective unit? Or on what someone else said about their unit.
Why wouldn't I base that on what a member says about their unit. Should I only listen to people that give positive reviews? Not much of a community vibe there. I'm here to get as much info as possible wether that be positive or negative. Isn't that the point?

You are missing the point that particular member still has v1.0 which was defective I have both! I think you should wait for more reviews now people are getting new units, there is a difference, that's all I'm saying
I couldn't care less whether you buy one or not. I'm nothing to do with davinci so makes no difference to me

You may be right. Fully packed the Da Vinci does perform much better, almost night and day. Trying to cheat with glass screens didn't work to well for me. I do worry about wasted weed as it's not cheap or easy to get where I am.

I tried jam packed..like super squished in and got a tonne of visible clouds at 170C (bare in mind the bowl is huge). So I'll ride this train all the way up to max..5 degrees at a time and see how it goes.

Also the version may be a big difference as well as apparently airflow has improved.

My opinion is less valid than yours?

Of course not, and that's not what I said is it?

But, since you bring it up, what was your experience using the Ascent? It seems you're basing that opinion on hearsay?

Of course again. And once again I don't think that's what he's saying?

My take is he's pointing out that the opinion you cite is biased? Based on a defective unit? I think the point here is to investigate a bit the 'evidence' you use and not take things at face value or to fill an agenda?

You're welcome to any opinion, of course. But I think it's fair to ask you to justify it if you want to post it here by way of insight/advice.

Again, have you actually used one? What did you think?

Will add this one more time to this conversation. My new Ascent that I got after they addressed all the QC issues is flawless, from it's aesthetics down to how it operates. It does everything that the manufacturer intended it to do and does not do what the manufacturer did not intend it to do.

Are there other portables that are more efficient than the Ascent or does a better job at vaping smaller loads (which kinda goes hand in hand with efficiency)? Yup.............but that doesn't take away in any sense how great of a portable the Ascent really is.

A quick question for any UK based ascent owners. Do I need to get a step down transformer to charge it or will a travel plug do? I don't want to screw it up before I get to use it.

My friends call me "Menz"
so.... based upon my complaints about fat fingers and the tiny glass flowers and how hard it is to load a small load, i re-read a reply to my complaint from @OF. i THINK i may have misread one his explanations on how to load a small load with the flowers. this how i was doing it BEFORE:

1) place two flowers in the bottom of the bowl stem up
2) fill with my herbs that i want to use
3) compress herb into a puck using the glass oil can
4) place two more flowers on the top stem down into the herb

now doing it this way was hard because after step 3 the load was compressed to half the bowl and trying to place two more flowers stem down (step 4) was hard to do cause my fat fingers were not nimble enough to get down there correctly. so i re-read a reply from @OF again and think i found my issue. i retried it and so far its better. i need more flowers but i have enough as spares. here is my method to load NOW:

1) place two flowers in the bottom of the bowl stem up
2) fill with SOME (not all) of the herbs i plan to use
3) add two more flowers (does not matter which way the stem faces)
4) fill with the rest of the herbs i plan to use
5) place two more flowers in to the top of the load with the stems down

this method actually provided me with two benefits.....

1) because using more flowers (but the same amount herbs) and stacking like this... the load is closer to the top of the bowl and it makes it much easier to put the last two flowers in stems down
2) using my "before" method i could still occasionally have the rising puck issue and would have to tamp it back down. the new method does not have this issue

That's very close to what I was doing, I obviously described it poorly......

I didn't mess with 'stem up' at first, in fact usually pushed 'standers' over so I could put the first part in and completely cover them. Then 3 more laid sideways (total 7) with the second layer of bud (thicker by a bit) over that, basically filling the rest of the bowl. Then the last two, 'thumbtack style' (but carefully) down through the load making the top surface of the load for practical purposes such that the door just clears them. It sounds complex and fiddly I agree, but in practice it's not.

And please remember the original goal was to vape smaller loads, the rest is bonus on that?

Thanks for making the flower load clearer, there are others sure to have been sidetracked by my lame description. It's a general idea, no real 'right way', but technique has a lot to do with ease and results for sure.

Keep calm and vape on
I had a v.1.0 that was replaced by a v.1.1. The og had everything wrong with it (cosmetic, exposed wire, off gassing, etc.). The replacement only had the off gassing issue and was sent back for another replacement. The third unit functions perfectly.
As I had waited for what seemed like forever to get a usable unit, I was convinced it was a pos and a flawed design. Boy was I wrong. The Ascent delivers on many levels. I have a Solo, Pax, Pinnacle Pro and an Ascent. Each has their pros & cons and a place in my line up but I'm finding myself reaching for the Ascent more and more. It really is a heavy hitter and easy to use.

I missed the last sentence saying it was an older version. My bad.

What's up with the post saying that material gets sucked through the device. Is this from super fine grind? Would a disk screen fix this?

I use a medium - fine grind that is packed down. Nothing gets sucked through.

I may have missed it, but have any of the folks with drilled out jars put herb inside of the to vape? Upside down or right side up? Just curious if it would be like a bullet system possibly.

The same but under a jar with holes.

I would try this, but I know I would shatter it. I have big ogre hands. Your method was slow steady speed correct? I forget, were you running water on jot to cool down the bit and the jar?

It would be a great idea for quick reloads but my guess is that you would need to let it cool down or risk burning your fingers. Glass retains heat longer if I remember correctly.

Seeking My Shangri-La
So I got my third replacement today. Straight out the box, half od the display is broken. Well, more than half. Not even all of the temp shows up all the way. Half is grayed out. So, 15 minutes in and I'm paying for a fourth send back. Pretty soon, it'll be a 300 dollar unit. The seal is also loose this time. I can see through the unit to the TV or see part of my hand without trying really. It also will not heat up while plugged in. It'll start to then just stop n go back down. I have to unplug it, heat it and plug it back in. If I try to raise the heat, it'll start going back down to 0.

On a side note, the new unit they sent me was an A1 unit. This was the first run productions right? Maybe they are recycling numbers....... or units? I hope not. Hopefully, fourth unit is the charm.
Man, I have been trying SO hard to stay open-minded about this vaporizer but that is just absurd. I commend you on your patience as I would have told DV where to stick their product. As a matter of fact, they should really just GIVE you one after all that. Just my opinion.

Definitely won't be in my arsenal.

I truly hope that your 4th attempt is successful (you deserve it) and that this vaporizer holds up long term.
