Magical Butter

There's nothing to it with the peeled cloves, and it's easy enough to do it with fresh because a little goes a long way. If you get some peeled ones, just inspect before buying. They come vacuum packed and are usually in good shape. All I do is screen them for woody parts, then run then through a cuisanart with just enough evoo to lube them up. Put into a clean jar in the fridge and it literally stays good forever.

But the main reason I buy the peeled cloves is for roasting the majority of them. If you get fresh heads, just separate the cloves and smash with the side of a largish knife; the peels come right off and you can get to screening the woody parts and the rest.

Yea, I prefer to peel my own and as you said smash and go and it is fun hehe. I just haven't gotten fresh lately as I cut down steps in cooking as I need things to be fast. I can stay in bed and peel garlic so no big deal.

I have never been in love with roasted garlic but who knows maybe I shall make some to put in food. I have had it in restaurants but I like strong garlic not sweet.

Okay the fruits of my labor...

I had the same issue some of the other first-timers had, I was not prepared for efficient filtering of the end product. The irony is that I usuaally have cheesesloth, and had recently used it up. So I used the stariner for a bit, of course it became hopelessly clooged, then a coffee filter, worse. Luckily I found a nylon sprouting bag to salvage probably 80-90% of what I made, reasonably filtered. Next time it will be much more efficient as I already have mo' betta cheesecloth (finer, more consistent). Anyways here it is, 3 parts butter 2 parts coconut oil; theis is more than half of what I made in a qt. mason jar:

Then I made some tried and true cookies, but I had worked out a substitute for the 2/3 shortening a long time ago, now I'm using this stuff and I upped the fat content about 50%. I used white flour and a bit of flax meal, but they turned out brown because I am using coconut sugar for the first time. So the whole thing was an experiment, and they pretty much came out the way I expected with the extra fat:

aH6CVs7.jpg

The cookies are banana chocolate chip, in addition to a cup of mj buttah and 2 cups of flour and a couple of eggs and the coco sugar there's about 3 good-sized bananas in the mix. Usually there's crunchy peanut butter in them but not this time. I ended up with about 40, when I was checking them for doneness I had one in my mouth before I knew it. I'll freeze most of them because of the fresh banana.

They're awesome, the cardamon/cinnamon just competes enough with the herbal taste to be complimentary. I made a non-mj batch before with too much fat and they spread out like this, they're actually pretty good that way and I've been meaning to do it again so this was a great opportunity. I'll end up freezing most of them because of the fresh banana.

Anyways they're pretty potent, gonna have another one right before a late supper but I'm pleased; they appear to be as strong as any space cake I ever had in amsterdam. Well maybe two cookies, I've had some pretty damn potent space cakes. We'll find out soon enough...

Okay, FC contributors... I have my MB2 from good ol' Puffitup.com and I should have time to make a batch of oil this weekend.

However, this is my very first attempt at making canna anything, and after reading this thread, I still have a couple newb questions that I hope aren't too stupid.

1. How much oil should I use?

I have a little more than 40 g of ABV to use up. Some of it is almost a year old, so I'd like to just use it all up in one batch that I can then keep in the fridge. It ranges from very light green to dark enough that it has almost nothing left. A pretty wide spectrum, all mixed together. I was thinking maybe 3, 3.5 cups of oil? I want it to be pretty potent - something I can use in baked goods for muscle relaxation and as a sleeping aid.

2. Do I really need to strain the oil?

If I strain out all the ABV, won't I be missing out on all the effects? Or does the MB get all the goodness out during the process? I'm still confused about that.

:)

I would use 40 grams to 2-3 cups of oil. With ABV, it helps to condense it as much as possible, for the most potent dose per tsp.

I don't strain the oil. I let it settle and spread the ground stuff on bread and eat it. Yeah, I'm weird. :mental:

Oh, and if you are using olive oil, do not use extra virgin...it will burn.

I couldn't bring myself to save the sludge but I think that next time I do this I will make two different batches--one more clear and one more dark that would be squeezed out of the cheesecloth.
tricorder-spock1.jpg

Most of my abv is so dark that I don't know what's really left in it, sure wish I had a tricorder for this!

I'm thinking of re-processing what I have left with more dark abv because I have a shitload, along with some fresh butter/oil, which should increase the potency. Works with garlic anyways but that tricorder would sure come in handy as it may not be worth the effort! Guess I'll make a milkshake test first.

Mark it 8, Dude.
I used 1 oz of bottom of the bag material from a few different strands 2 cups of Everclear then I added a little bit more just to make sure I was over the min line... I ended up with about 15 ozs once strained. a little was spilled so i don't think there was much evaporation if any at all. turned a very dark green like my other green Dragon batches but I felt it was much stronger and the folks who have tried it all said it was effective. I'm prescribed 4 narcos and 2 xanax a day plus take about 8 ibuprofen to help with inflammation.. since starting tincture about 18 months ago i typically make it through lunch time with out needing anything for pain and haven't taken a xanax in a while. for the next batch I was thinking of doing a water wash to eliminate some of the chlorophyll before hand... but I'm not sure how long or what temp the water should be if anyone has any experience with that please share it... I'm also thinking about coconut oil to make capsules with

Hello all. Just joined the forum after receiving my MB2.

I'm a medible noob who wants to learn about alcohol tinctures. My sister in law suffers from migraines (along with food allergy issues) and I'm hoping to help her out in some way. This would also be for personal use.

I don't have access to a lot of herb. Right now only 18g. So, I want to get this right the first time.

Chill, great post with nice info. Hope you're getting email notifications. Some followup...

What dosage do you give yourself? Use an eyedropper? Since you used 28g and 2 cups of Everclear I'd have to adjust my dosages accordingly.

Would it be ok to use Barcardi 151? Is there a reason for the Everclear other than the high alcohol? I do like rum.

Any issues with alcohol tincture storage? Keep it in the fridge? Does it lose potency over time?

Being a math guy what I really want is an equation that solves for dosage using variables (THCcontent)(grams used)(ounces of alcohol used). Does this exist?

Thanks in advance everyone.

So a few weeks ago as promised I made that garlic herb butter...not our herb. It came out fantastic. I did have to put it in a bowl and put it in the fidge for a bit. I then had to go back a few times and mix it as it seperated the garlic and herbs to the bottom. I think I will only eat butter this way from now on. I used one pound of butter, I think around 6 or so garlic cloves and against tweeks advice chucked in the fresh parsley. I also added some powdered garlic, I was Italian in my last life, and some Italian dry herbs for good measure. I didn't measure anything cause that is just not who I am. All I can say is wow it was good. I now got over my fear of using mj and will make butter this weekend as I need to make candy or some shit. I never did so if you have something easy for me let me know. I have figured I can make lots of different regular sauces in this thing, vodka sauce comes to mind and even every day tomato sauce as it won't stick and I can just leave it there to cook slowly.

Clean up wasn't so easy as I ran the wash thingy twice and that was after wiping it out with paper towels. The top part had to be hand cleaned as the butter just stuck to it and wasn't cleaning. I did the best I could and then had my cleaning person finish it for me. I suppose if you don't need things really clean it would be ok but I certainly didn't want butter on my machine to get rancid.

@sbahjigowitz how did the tincture come out?

I did use the fresh and the taste was definitely there and wonderful. I wanted it incorporated. I knew why you told me to do it at the end but then it wouldn't have been a pretty green and incorporated all the way through.

Now do you know the answer to....to clarify or not to clarify? I think I would rather cook with butter then coco oil but will make some of that too when I finish all my tinctures. For those my choices are less since I am not keen on coco taste. It would have to be caps or I can deal with cookies and brownies but it can't be to strong. I think when I do the coco I might add garlic as that makes everything better lmfao.

Do you know how to make something travel safe like candy? I have tried caps but maybe with the mb2 I can make them better as I will be using fresh cause I don't want the abv sleep. I need to be very clear headed.

I've heard of people melting down tootsie rolls and incorporating hash/kief into it and then reforming and wrapping it back up to be a tootsie roll again. Never tried it myself though.

So after you make the butter it doesn't need to be cooked? I just saw that tootsie roll in the cooking threads but couldn't follow. Should I decarb even though I am using mb2?

The butter you make from the machine? No, you could eat it just as is and it would work. The MB2 has a decarb function, so you should be good. I have the first version, which I prefer since I like doing a decarb in the oven.

You could make caramels out of the butter...I just don't know any recipes of my own for that.

@Tweek, I am very interested in melting something made but then what and how do I add herb if I can at all? You made me think of something that may or may not be possible but it sure would be easier.

The problem with using fresh herbs in stuff like this is their water content, it tastes good at first but can go bad faster if you make a large batch and take your time getting through it. This added water could have also contributed to your separation issues, idk.

Your best bet with melting a candy is to use hash oil. It's already a liquid and ready to go. You just have to mind the temps, and make adjustments for the extra liquid.

Otherwise, you could make caramels with the butter you made. You would have to monitor temp with a candy thermometer...they are pretty easy to find in most kitchen supply stores online and locally.

If I have to make hash oil it makes it back to work so not worth it. I have no butter right now as remember my butter was regular butter. I am going to make butter tomorrow as I don't feel like it today and my caregiver will make caramels on Monday with the butter for me. I just was intrigued by melting down candy that I like predone and just adding weed somehow.

You probably could grind herb into a fine powder and add it, but I am not sure it would taste so good. You would also get less of a dose per candy, so not really worth the effort.

If someone else has tips, would be great to hear.
