The HI

Been on the list - all the cool people are doing it!
I'm worried that my bad luck has continued, & that the HI has eluded me. I have been on 'the list' since first week in Feb.; could someone that has recently acquired the HI inform me/us when they contacted Alan(placed order/put on list)? Are there jedHIs that contacted Alan after Feb. 2012, & have received a unit? I'm hoping my 'place in line' still stands..but am worried. What's the approx. date that (any) owners first contacted Alan .. :uhoh: :suspicious: :peace:

I'm March 14th and I'm pretty sure you are very near the top of the list.

Work on the HI has halted due to Alan moving, so once he has fully moved and is set work will begin again.

The bonus will be that Alan mentioned it will be easier to work faster on the HIs at his new place.

I think I enlisted somewhere in the last half of January, my ET arrived on the last day of June.

Not many people have received one after I got mine if I payed any attention at all though (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I know BDV did, but that was a broken one that Alan couldn't/wouldn't sell and was a gift so it had nothing to do with the list, and I believe there was another one but that might very well be it, except for Ed's beauties of course. Alan seems to be drowning in this move (or attempt to?) for a while now guys, I think he could use a little help

I wouldn't recommend it, but I just found a new way to vape hash with my HI today

I had dropped a big chuck of hash when breaking it off, and it took me a few seconds to realize it had landed right in ET's heater port. When I got the flashlight out and looked in there it had already gone full melt and it even started to bubble a bit already, so I quickly turned it upside down and scraped everything out as much as I could. I was afraid some of it had already gone past the screen though, so I put it on an empty stem and put that on my bubbler so I could leave it turned on upside down until all the oils had evaporated. I ended up getting a 30+ thick white hits out of that empty stem, and it's still going!

I think I finally have an excuse to yank the heating element out to inspect it now

OhTheAgony - You are right on the money. I do seem to be drowning in the move. Just proceeding with a lot of caution. Trying to make all the right decisions. Help is something that I am always short on.
Sorry to hear about your hash mishap. You now have some oil in your center tube from the way it sounds. After removing the heating element, push the screen out of the center tube. Use a cotton swab soaked in alcohol to clean the inside of the center tube. The center tube is open from both ends so you have plenty of access to clean it. Debris on the heating element can be brushed away with a soft brush. Replace the center tube screen by pushing it in from the bottom of the center tube using a 1/4" dowel. After reinstalling the heating element, push the center tube screen down until it stops at the heating element. Be sure to check that the center tube screen is clean as it can collect debris on the underside as well which will block air flow. A soak in alcohol will remove any oil that may be on the screen.
There should be hardly any smell coming from a heated HI. If you do smell something, it is probably time for a cleaning.

ili - Thanks for the link to the amazing vapor lung. I have been thinking more about them lately. Took some to a party recently and they were a big hit. No need for anyone but the filler to worry about draw speed. People can take as little or as much vapor as they desire. The price is definitely right.

GratefulVapor - You have not been forgotten. You will be in a group towards the beginning when I start making them again. Sorry for making you wait longer. It will be worth the wait.

DcTokeMan - It doesn't cost anything to get on the list. Just some patience.

Your Highness - Is it possible to have too many vaporizers in your collection? Nice to have extras for when friends visit. Nice to have a variety.

Thanks for the cleaning tips Alan. I think I may have gotten to it just in time though. The smell is as good as gone now, and non of the holes in the screen are blocked or covered as far as I can tell. I'll still take it apart and clean it soon though, just to make sure. But I don't feel like turning it off just yet :brow:

I have no idea what sort of details you have going on over there of course, but could it be you're over-thinking this whole move-thing a bit perhaps? At one point you just got to get it over with man. I always just throw my stuff in boxes, or in garbage bags if I don't want to keep it, & then just toss it in a truck & sort it all out @ the new place myself (granted, this last part can take me a while. I may still have some unopened boxes from the last time I moved, which was almost a decade ago..). I'm actually looking forward to the next time, I have lots of garbage bags to fill again I suspect

Having just moved myself, I can also say that those garbage bags work great for moving stuff in when you run out of boxes. Especially for clothes, towels, sheets, etc. Get a sharpie, mark the bags with what's in them and go. :D

I know it's not easy though Alan. Like Bill Murray says in "What About Bob," baby steps...

momofthegoons,
hey alan, I need some assistance reseting the inner ss tube that houses the heating element. Its very loose Is there anyway I can fix this without suffering the absence of my toy, by sending it to you.

I emailed Alan with a similar question regarding my bocote HI, here's what he said:

"I use a socket for a 1/2" nut (3/4" OD) to drive the outer sleeve down
until it stops against the washer holding the inner tube. The hole in the
socket will allow the inner tube tube to pass through as you don't want to
put force on the inner tube. The outer sleeve is what holds the inner tube
in place. Heat up the wood to dry it out which will tighten the hold on
the sleeve."

OKcomputer,

ilovebOObs

can i stick my male joint in there?
yeah i used a socket to tighten mine up, just fine one that fits into the hi then just tap it down and it will be tight again.

mom - Thanks for the moving tips. I'm sure it will come down to that when it comes time for the truck.

OhTheAgony - Not sure how big of a space I will move to, so I'm trying to pack everything down as small as possible. Besides, I haven't sorted things out from my last 3 moves or so. Just not sure what to expect. The compact variable power supply looks nice. Too bad it is capable of such high voltages. I guess the nice thing about the HI is that the heating element is easy to replace if too much voltage is accidentally applied and it becomes damaged.

mflb_hustler - Hope the socket did the trick for you and it is tight again. Thanks for the tips OK and bOObs. A core replacement is covered by the warranty if you ever do want to send it in for an upgrade. You must still have the two piece core.

Hope you're feeling better, Alan. What's this about a truck hasn't even shown up yet? That's how you're supposed to do it. Get a damn truck... throw your stuff in bags and boxes... throw them in truck. Get the Hell out of Dodge. Yeesh! What's it been? Like a year now? :p

Oh... I filmed these EXCLUSIVELY for you all. NO ONE else has seen them. :D

Haha, I love that you posted the blooper too

According to Hazy the knob on that PSU turns quit heavy Alan, so as long as you pay just a little bit of attention nothing should go wrong imo. You have this big bright display in your face telling you what voltage you're at after all. I kinda like that it goes up to higher voltage, makes it more versatile to use with other toys too for me. My 200W VV cuts out at 15V already, I wish I could take it to 30V instead to be honest.

How long will it be before we can order stuff again you think Alan? I've been postponing some things for a while now initially thinking you'd be moved about a month after you first announced it, but I would really like to get a spare screw-in heating element and some of those new SS nipples and perhaps a wong. Can you give us some idea of when you'll be operational again at least?

I tried the old SS nipple again the other day btw, and only then I noticed that the CRZ stem fits the HI's heater port much much tighter. I thought the little indent on the CRZ stem to keep the screen in place was causing a venturi effect that was responsible for the denser vapor it produces, but it seems more likely that it's just the tighter fit now.

BDV - Thanks for the great videos. Such dark vapor. You can see how light in weight is the HI since the cord can easily tip it over. A right angle plug end reduces the cord twist forces on the HI. This had to be a very organized move as I'm not sure how large of a place I will be able to find. I had a large household full of stuff that I have been paring down. Getting close now.

OTA - I am shooting for one month to get operational again. Hopefully, I can locate some smaller variable voltage units again by then. Will keep my fingers crossed for some critical component availability too. Need to get busy turning some wong tubes as well as some other projects that have been put off for too long.

Vapinghole - Glad to hear you are showing off your HI. Show them the way of the force.

My HI was a total HIt, Master JedHI. I had a couple vapes out, and the HI stole the show. I just love showing tHIs tHIng off and don't get too many chances to do so. We all had a great time. The Force was strong with us last evening.

And I'm keen for you to get your WonG on again. Cheers to you!

Me neither VH....the Hi takes on a life of its own with glass.I ve managed to get big instant plumes with temps a little higher than 12v on my crz stem.still experimenting with all the different stem combinations and temps to find the best results and also being careful not to combust.Ive expanded the bowl on eds crz brass bowls so they are a real tight fit in the heatport.only heated air now hitting my bowl and no stray air being sucked in at the heatport/bowl joint.I guess thats what makes vapes like the Hi so much fun to play with.

Eds crz stems are a little too big for a 14mm joint and too loose in an 18mm joint.
Ive been cutting 5mm off my 12mm silicone hose and making an oring for my stems so they seal in a 18mm dewarr.Works so well the crz stem is perfect maintenance bowl for me during the day.

next to try is the nipple stem.ive got the test tubes and tools to make them up thanks to Alan.I broke all the ones i made earlier in the year .they are a little fragile but simple to make, cheap but so worth it. very little heat transfer loss. Most of the heat hits youre herb and doesn t get used up heating metal etc.another of alans real clever ideas:science:

I ordered that psu Oth.i just need to get a dark tinted sticker to dull the display when it arrives.even my current psus blue display keeps me awake at night next to my bed.I miss out on aromatherapy while i sleep.I like that the new psu stays cool.my current psu gets hot, good excuse to spend more money:D

boobs and jeppy, you made my stay in California just perfect. Thanks

One love FC and Hi Family:peace:

Alan recently said he would like to open the shop in a month. So I would say middle December. Then to make a handful that'll take some time. Then your number on the list will depend on how much longer after that to get to you. I'm thinking some people in late February are waiting still or else early March. So hang in there still.
