Arizer Solo

It reminds me of one vape, I think it's the vapbong (or something like that) and it came with a super stealth carry case that looked like a sharpie... That had a massive VapBong printed on the side

I'd much rather explain vape than bong

Soemone asked about Ed's stems with bubblers a while back and I finally gave it a go last night. I really like the stem and it's increased airflow and bigger bowl size. I don't notice the increased ariflow as much as I do the bowl size. One stem gets me pretty good and medicated and two puts me over the top (I will rarely need two).

As for the bubbler, I really enjoyed it with the solo. The airflow was noticeably more constricted than without the bubbler...it felt more like a PD. But the soothing effect was worth it. My mobius has what I believe to be an 18mm Dewar joint (I have no idea what this means) and Ed's stem was too narrow and slid all the way to the bottom. It fit perfectly snug with my 14mm adapter. The stem got easily stuck to the adapter and I imagine will get a little marked with use. That may bother some, but I like the character scars. I really wanted Ed's stem to just be what I use while out and about, but with its bubbler functionality I don't know when I will use the glass stem again. I'll miss the reclaim, but it will be worth it.

The airflow is better, I just find myself getting more impressed with the bowl size. I am not at all disappointed with the airflow, but I wasn't with the stock stem either. I guess the airflow isn't as important to me with this vape since I didn't see it as a problem in the first place. Overall, I would highly recommend Ed's stem simply due to the versatility of it...airflow improvement, bowl size increase (super important if you want to go out with just the unit and one stem without extra meds), travel friendly in the pocket and mated with glass. I should probably do a side by side to really compare with the stock stems, but I just don't care. I'm just surprised by how much I am using it, when I originally bought it just as an occassional accessory.

I'm probably not the best guy to go to for quantatively evaluating vapes. I think guys like SliM might be better at that. I tend to evaluate more on usage. If something broadens my usage patterns or weasels its way into my regular lineup, then I know we have a winner. If I start going all quantative my ocd will take it way out of the realm of what's functionally necessary. I have been incredibly impressed with this new wave of vapes that have come out. I think I've had eleven different vapes over the last four years and I don't ever remember being this satisfied with my regular lineup of the Cloud and Solo.

I got to agree about reclaim... I miss it as well but that's the only thing I see that is not as good with glass

I love the way it becomes a wood on glass adapter using my bubbler... and I manage to perfect the hits(waiting a bit more, slow long draws and bam - massive hits!)

Bummer, I was under the impression that ed's stem provided approx. 30% more airflow like the pvhes.

It does.

Wood stem has the best airflow(beats PVHES) because its just a big massive hole covered with a very thin screen so nothing gets inside the stem!

I'm not sure what stickstones meant...

FYI "vapecase" & "quarantine" are on a sticker that comes off in 2 seconds.

That's nice to know but it still doesn't justify being more expensive than a Pelican case that has a handle. Maybe they charge more because the foam is pre-cut, but the Solo layout is probably the easiest one to cut in cases like that.

IMO, I think he tries to say that all this airflow increase hip is kind of debatable, goes with each one of us preferences and dislikes, I agree.
When I said I have a 100% more airflow is IMO, I don't own a wind tunnel to prove it
For example, If I don't clean my SS screens or replace them I don't get a fuck of airflow, If I let too much oil and so on get stucked in any stem, glass or wood, modified or not, your airflow, wouldn't be the same.
Totally agree at @stickystones here. It's all in our opinions, it's totally subjective and biased to different
people.
Testing done or not, advertising and marketing strategies plays a huge role in peoples minds too, it's their "bread & butter" like they like to say here, and they are going to put on top their products.
Some wil support PV, other's Ed, some will never care... but as he said, we ALL totally agree that Ed's stems loads are bigger  , very well done Ed

What I was NOT saying was that the airflow is not increased. It is increased, it's just not my favorite feature of the stem. The airflow increase is noticable, just not as big of a difference as a jump from the PD to the HI, which was a radical improvement.

Of all the things this stem improves, I think airflow is the least noticable...again, to each his own. But I would buy this stem for the bowl size, portability and ability to mate with glass even if it restricted the airflow a little more.

Ed's stems sound sweet! Could be the on the go solution for those weary of traveling with fragile exposed glass. Thinking about it, I had a thought. Dave over at Underdog has a stem that has exotic wood on the outside, with a glass air-path. If Ed could throw a glass tube in the middle of his stem somehow, that would solve the recalim issue and likely keep that element of the stinky stem easily controlled. Thoughts?

I saw Dave's stems you are talking about and thought they were brilliant! Since I haven't held one, I don't know how protected the glass is so I can't speak to how travel worthy it would be.

Perhaps Stu could chime in? He is active in both forums it seems... Looking at his pic on page 173 of the UD thread, there is only a small tip of exposed glass for the mouthpiece and it works with 14mm and 18mm joints due to the tapered cut. The fragile glass is a concern for me until I get a proper case.

Dave's glass-lined stems utilize the glass as part of the construction of the stem itself. I.E. the glass connects the silicone bowl to the wooden stem and keeps everything nice and snug.

I don't have one of Ed's stems yet (I have a dugout w/ stem on the way soon), but it appears to me that a glass insert would not serve the same purpose that it does with Dave's UD wooden stems. It is a difference of design IMO.

I have the non-carbed version, and after using it for a while, I wish I had gone with the carbed version. To me it's a little bit of a pain to have to lift off the stem (w/ solo affixed above it) to clear each hit. If I had the carbed version, it would just be a matter of removing my finger from covering the carb hole.

Differen't Strokes I guess. Either carbed or non-carbed the stems are worth it IMO.

:2c:

I'm with you on this one Stu ... same experience ... figured who needs the carb? I can just lift it a little ... now I've realized how handy the carb would be :)

How do you have a dugout on the way? Did Ed perfect the solo dugouts? I was one of the first to even mention this to him and stated several times I want one? How was I not contacted?

Gotcha... I guess it would require a whole new design. May be worth Ed's time, may not. If it was an option, I would love to try it out since you could clean it, have a glass air path, and it would be durable.

I called him, we bounced some ideas off each other and in the end I gave him my CC number for him to get started. He still needed to buy some tooling, and finalize some design specs. I'm essentially paying him full retail for a beta unit, but I'm confident that he'll make a fine product.

He did not contact me (several of us showed interest in these), so it's not like you have been overlooked, VNS. I just wasn't patient enough so I pushed him to make me one. That's all.

Sometime ago I put up this http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-solo.3833/page-217#post-200047 showing how, using stock glass with short tubing, I could connect a Solo to glycerine tube, or 18mm or 14mm. So it is something that can be done on the cheap and easy.

New solo came from PIU! There is now a note on the front indicating how to insert the stems for the first time (heat up on 7, etc) and it mentions how ALL stems will fit. There is also a registration card.

Hang in there with me VnS, Stu just wanted to get his name on the first one. I have one piece of tooling left to get to make these happen, then all I need is time. I am gonna be in the shop this week putting dugouts together. I wanna try and make these soon, have really been working em over in my head for quite some time. I know its probably nothing to it and am already doing the labor on a smaller scale with the normal dugout size its just I never try and rush into anything and wanna make sure when I start this project I get it right is all.

HappyTrails, a Solo Dugout will be similar to a normal one hitter dugout just larger, where you would have a standard cigarette style one hitter in one side, this one would have a short 3" Wood Solo Stem, and on the other side will be a rather large stash hole for your herb. You will have a swivel style lid on the top, underneath will house the stem which will be spring loaded and the stash. Simply twist the top, out pops the shorty Solo Stem and then dig it in the stash side or maybe even suck herb into the stem and off you go. The stash side will be quite large and I easily see having maybe a 1/4O of meds stored. The entire box itself will be about 4" tall x 1" thick x 2 1/2" wide I have posted a pic of the prototype somewhere.

Time is all y'all! Just gotta find more of it, I have a great idea for my own vape but haven't really got the tooling to do it just yet and sure dont have the time!
