Wow looks like there is a newly improved 2012 EQ! Think i'll pick one up just for fun since the price is an absolute steal.

The seller is Rockwise, so I assume this is on the level. Might explain why we've seen posts here remarking about the temp setting in 1 degree temperature increments. I hadn't heard anything about changes to the internals, added heat sensors - none of this is on Arizer's web site, that's for sure.

Hey, so whats the purpose of the fan? I'm not sure what you mean by heat the glass? A friend of my has this unit and every time we have used it with the fan on at level 2 . We usually pass the whip around fast but in between, you can see the vapor kinda escaping. So are you saying we could just draw in air instead rather than have the fan on?

The primary purpose of the fan is for balloons. The fan can also be used to "assist" with the whip; when that is done it makes more sense to just use Fan 1. Fan 2 is sometimes preferred to use with an elbow-pack. But most just use the whip in passive mode like other passive draw vapes, that is, no forced air.

As far as heating the glass, it can be used to pre-heat the Cyclone before adding herb or pre-heat Cyclone and elbow if empty before adding an elbow-pack, but that's certainly not a primary function.

Well it says it has an all glass "air flow" so i wanna take it apart and see what has been "upgraded". Seems like maybe the heater cover is reinforced more because that was common to become loose. Also "clear view lcd"?

i think arizer's site has never been updated since the date on the bottom 2009. probably forgotten.

Does anyone know if KJ Rockwise has a discount code for FC members? I notice he is a sponsor here.

Here it is on his website at much higher price, description mostly the same . . .

http://www.rockwise.net/content/extreme-q-vaporizer

And here is the FC retailer page; he's on the list with an FC discount code. But I'm betting that the discount applies to purchases off his website, and even with the discount, that would still be more than the eBay price.

Let us know what you find.

Just like you said, the discount doesn't apply to the ebay limited pricing. He said it's the same glass path as before, so obviously he didn't know I was referring to the electronics in the "cold" airpath. it's a hell of a deal for those in canada for $175 cdn to your door within days.

Right. Should we understand though that there is literally a "2012 version" which has the 1 degree temp increments and more accurate (i.e., additional) temp sensors? (As an aside, I had always kinda questioned the Q's 260C temp because Storz and independent studies put combustion at 230C, and Q users have certainly gone up to and beyond its 230C without combustion - of course, vape temps are not precise and more importantly, the temp through the bowl is definitely if not considerably less than what the sensors read near the element.)

well common oldie, don't forget the "new" darker midnight chrome lol but there could be some better parts, etc. so who knows. i think i'm gonna get one because i think my Cloud will be longer than I thought and I need to start vaping through water. for the price, i think i may eventually use it just for aromatherapy/essential oil diffusion which is does a really good job.

Yeah the temps on the EQ are more for a reference really. it's too bad in this version they didn't just dial them all back to reflect more accurate real world temps.

Yea, me thinks that maybe there have been a couple little tweaks, just enough to get by with a heckuva lot of "2012" marketing to follow. Even though the price has dropped substantially, the development costs were recovered years ago and so the only cost is in the mature manufacturing, retail channel, and warranty, i.e., it's a nifty cash cow that's Arizer is getting some additional life out of, and extents the support life for users as well. And it's a great deal, what with the new ViVape selling for over 2x and IMO not that much better if at all. Everybody wins.

Ostensibly the reason for the claimed added sensor(s) is accuracy, so go figure. IMO the 1 degree temp adjustment is silly, as if there was remotely that level of precision in these settings.

oldiebutgoodie,
I just got one of these today. I have only ever used a GVG before and I was not much a fan. I have spent the past few days reading this thread and product reviews. It really convinced me to buy it.

I must say, that this is the absolute best invention ever. I'm never smoking again! Unless I can avoid it of course. I see most people in this thread saying that they aren't a fan of the bag, but I must say I think it's absolutely amazing! Although, I guess I don't have much to compare it to. I haven't yet tried the whip. I plan to later when I'm sober. TBQH I'm shocked I've managed to write this, that's how effective I found this wonderful machine to be. Oh... and spell check helps.

But hey anyway, I've got a very small glass zong. Not a GonG piece, but the mouthpiece fits right into the spot for the slide. Not too snugly, it's got a bit of wiggle but not enough to let vapor leak. I haven't gotten the chance to try it out yet though. Does anybody have any experience with something similar? I feel like that may be a risk for breaking the mouthpiece. Also, I think the hose would be too long allow for a good hit. Any thoughts?

That's the pipe for reference. Not actually mine, but the exact same thing. Mine is green.

^^ Hey Singin hobo, welcome to FC :) You won't be disappointed with your purchase. Don't worry about the whip being too long for now and just try it with your bong. You can cut a shorty later if it works.

Leave the downstem in the bong. Remove the glass mouthpiece from the whip and simply put the whip tube directly into the downstem. You should be able to suck vapor through your bong. :2c:

@singin hobo -

Welcome - you're at the absolute best source of info on vaporizing and the Q. If you've been working through this thread you've already found lots of great tips. That's what brought me here at first and I since found this is a great community and there is a lot to learn besides just about the Q.

I agree that you may just be able to slide the pvc tubing into your glass piece. But the Q mouthpiece may indeed break. When I rigged a homemade bong last year I did something similar, but the tubing was too large so I got a piece of smaller O.D. pvc at the hardware store, heated the end of the whip, and worked the smaller piece into the whip piece. In other words, like the glass mouthpiece but made from the pvc. Then inserted that into the glass. Worked surprisingly well.

As far as the bag, you won't get as dense a vapor as you will with a strong passive hit with the whip, especially if you elbow-pack. But there are advantages to the bag, such as group sessions, or just leisurely sipping, or being able to easily carry it around. I use both. And I run both through my bubbler.

Enjoy!

I like to run my eq little backwards first I heat the cyclone and elbow to 230c and add herb let the herb heat up maybe 5 min, then turn fan on 3 when I see vapor start I throw the bag on and turn the heat all the down and let it drop as it fills bag. As soon as the bags full back up to 230c and do it again. I use the tokeez bags cut in half and it fills these with a thick cloud and it seems to get the full spectrum better. anyone try this?

No, can't recall having seen this method. Have you tried the other fans speeds for comparison? There is debate over which delivers the thickest vapor, and there certainly are variables which affect this. But generally speaking once the bowl and herb are fully heated up, and assuming the herb is properly dried and ground (that is, not needing the higher fan speed to compensate) in theory at least the lower fan setting should deliver thicker vapor.

it's not the fan speed but going through the whole temp spectrum with this technique if I change fan speed it just blows a slower bag and ends up too cool at the end of the bag.also I would like to add that you guys out there with the tuff bowl watch the silicone sleeve it slips down and keeps the cyclone bowl from seating properly

+1 on the tuff bowl. I actually had to trim mine with a razor just to get it to seat properly on the HC.
:peace:

Stu,
I just purchased this vape last night from Ebay. Got it for $160 shipped to my door with a free grinder and 2 extra balloons. I own a solo and a DBV ATM so this will be a nice addition to the family.

Then what you're ensuring is that all the CBN and CBD's get captured early on and fully. In other words, a stoney bag - hmmm, couchlock via the bag, hadn't thought of that before. :)

Don't worry guys, the tuff bowl dries out and that silicone will all crack and break off anyway. Jut watch out for it falling inside (which happened to me).

Arizer posted here somewhere about temps and where they are measured and the controversy over measured temp vs ignitioin. However, from personal experience it is possible to get ingnition at 230 if you use ABV and fill cyclone bowl full up and use fan at 3 to fill balloon. I guess the temp isn't 'set in stone' and while probably pretty consistent between units of same model, are more a general guide? But I can't see what purpose a 1 degree change would be, other than to press a button more times or hold it in longer... Well, I guess I can set it to 451 and see what shakes.

My vote is speed 2. Go from lower temps to later fills at higher temps. Last fill maybe fan 3. Maybe.

It's similar to using the whip, i.e., you can start lower for the flavors and the THC lift and then slowly raise the temp to work yourself into CBD land, or you can start high and take the fastest ticket to stoney. Just a matter of personal preference, although I think there is more efficiency in the former than the latter. When I use the bag, similarly depends on what kind of session I'm looking for; the fan increases the temp and cooks the herb faster, I usually go from 1 to 3 with the fan as I raise the temp. That's one of the nice things about the Q, it's flexibility.

KJ doesn't fuck around with delivery, I might even get this thing today...that would be next day delivery, then again I don't live far.

This is going to be like my 6 or 7th extreme I think (inc. v3')... for some reason I just keep coming back to it, but i think price has a big part to do with it, and value for money since it IS an effective aromatherapy diffuser which I think i'll use it most for, especially after I get my cloud.
