So...After about a week of the ThermoVape...I've regressed back to the MLFB yesterday.

I tried 1,000,000 different ways - load size/dryness/breathing techniques etc.

I just can't get much satisfaction out of it. Every time I use it, I feel frustrated that I am not doing something right, so I kept trying, and kept trying different things.

The ThermoVape doesn't seem to get me where I want to go. However the MFLB does the job right. It probably has to do with the fact the MFLB makes me cough up a lung, and I can hit much more, and see more clouds, without reloading battery - or vaporables.

One thing that seems odd is - when I inhale - it seems to be drawing in air from the sides somewhere - making me think I didn't screw it together right. But I've done that a ton of times. The weird sound of air seeping in from the sides makes me think somethings not right - but I have a feeling that's how it is supposed to be.

I don't want to be a downer or rain on anyones parade, but this thing doesn't do the job as well as a simple MFLB...I can't figure out what the deal is. I wish it could hold more and produce more.

I really hope the Revolution changes something because now I am considering selling my TV. :(

It does draw air in from the sides and then it heats up what is in the bowl.

On the left the holes are on the bottom and on the right you can see the holes on the white delrin.

It is important to take long slow draws so it has time to heat up. If you are willing to try again I would fill the bowl 3/4 full and don't pack it down. Turn it on and wait for 8 seconds. Take a long slow 15-20 second pull. You should feel it getting warm on your lips / throat as you inhale. You can also take short 2-3 second pulls and wait 2 seconds then draw slow for 2-3 seconds and do that 3 times and then do a long slow inhale for 10 more seconds. It is important to get it warm if you want that coughing / big cloud hit. Make sure there is no noise and just listen to the air being sucked in. See how slow you can make it.

Edit: Of course with my method the batteries won't last as long. I'll always be throwing a pair on the charger.

Many, many posts ago I talked about the ThermoVape being an "adaptive" device. The purpose of building the ThermoVape that way is so that you can find your sweet spot. There are so many variables, flower moisture content, ambient air temperature, draw speed, warm up, grind consistency, density of the bowl load, etc. etc.ThermoVape

ok Nate, I am reading some Deepak Chopra right now so I will continue to ponder the whole: "Am I adapting to the TV or is it adapting to me . . . " thing. :) Perhaps we can vape and talk about it some time.

I did try to out vape all the batteries in one session and after 2 sets of batteries and 4, 1/2 bowls, it was too much. So I would say 1 set of betteries easily does 2 half bowls and gets me where I want to be. Having 3 sets of batteries ensures I will never be without power. For sharing? 2 people could share the stock batteries I think no problem. 3, not so sure. The sweet spot is an interesting quest. My experience with the MFLB and the TV has been the same, just the devices switched, as Sessnet. I could never learn to medicate with the box where I was satisfied. The TV has much more power and controlling it is going to be key in staying in the sweet spot. For me, the learning curve has been easier on the TV, obviously, there are going to be some trade offs with the form factor and portability. Anyone who buys this device thinking its a portable HA or Cloud, or a party vape, or that you are just going to whip it out and convert all your friends to vapor with it, might be in for a disappointment.

But for a personal, portable, medical device it is fitting me nicely indeed. And like I said before, the logistics problems this system will solve for me will be huge. Many of us on FC travel a lot, family outside USA in Asia for me, so I think the TV will have a certain "worldwide" appeal if you know what I mean.

Edit: I also feel the TV is going to shine in outdoor settings. Inside home in a "lab" setting is fine, but I can really see using this thing on the beach, trail etc.

Thanks PB88123!

That is basically the technique that works best for me. However that amount (and even completely full) doesn't seem like it is enough. Yesterday I tried tiny bowls, 1/3 even 1/4, and different methods. I spent a few hours yesterday trying to "get there".

I also tried taking deep puffs/pulses so I can see that there is some clouds... When it gets to about the third/fourth hit - the whole thing, and the air, is super hot - and no more clouds!!! :( If I mix it around - no more clouds!! And by that time - time for a battery change - then I get more frustrated.

If I fill the thing a few times - I've wasted all the batteries - and I feel like a chump.

The whole experience is pretty frustrating to me now.

When I got my MFLB I though I was wasting a ton of material - but going back to the MFLB it seems more effective now. The TV tastes AMAZING, I see clouds, but the effect...meh. I even burnt it once a few days ago, so I know it can get hot.

I think using the TV for about a week has actually decreased my tolerance - because when I pulled out the MFLB and used it - I finally found myself at "the right place".

This thing is freaking awesome looking, and designed well. But the small bowl and performance after a few hits - compared to a MFLB trench and ONE battery - does not seem to produce the results I am looking for.

I think I need a bigger bowl and a PA, but then that would kill the purpose of me using it as a portable.

I am going to wait for the Revolution still....and buy it - to give the TV another chance.

I really hope that Nate will put time into testing the Revolution in USAGE before releasing it, not submerge it in water, run it over with a Hummer, or use it as a Kubotan in zombie attack type of deal this time.. :2c:

I've come to the conclusion that the bowl is actually too big. I fill it about halfway and will get about 10 decent hits before the batteries die, but there is much more left to vaporize. Instead of popping another set of batteries in the TV, I put the ABV in a solo stem and get about 3 more huge clouds. Usually at this point, I'm very well medicated. I think the TV is great, but it seems it cannot extract all the goodies as well as a solo.

I have been following this thread closely since its inception and I had been very close to pulling the trigger all along. Well, I had a good Vegas trip (financially), so I decided to treat myself and I just picked one of these up. I look forward to sharing my thoughts.

I want to try the VaporBlunt and the Solo, and the NO2. I think if I try them all for like a week - I would find the best one for me.

Too bad you can't rent vaporizers from NetFlix...

I took my remains and put it in the SSV and got a couple more hits when my TV wasn't producing much. I came to the conclusion that the TV wasn't getting as hot as my SSV. To fix that I took my 15th hit (I posted about this before) with a fresh pair of batteries and let it warm up 8-10 seconds and took a slow long inhale and managed to get some big clouds.

Thank you so much for those snapshots, PB88123!!! I can finally have a global perspective of the airpath - which is an essential part in any vaporizer thread, IMHO.

;)

I don't recall if the material under the bowl (left) is synthetic as well but it seems to me that it might have been a good idea to go further with the entrenched airpath design (right) by engraving an helix on the surface of this white heating element in order to multiply surface contact with fresh air before it enters the bowl's 4 inlet holes on top of the metal screwing/contact base...

Of course, i do realize though that such a heat-exchanger maze would rely on proper heat-conduction in its material.

Or maybe a vaporizer exchange program with another member. The TV can be "sterilized" and mailed soooo . . . not that I would give mine up anytime soon, but an idea I have forming in my head right now.

Get the Solo first Sessnet!
I also recommend giving the TV a bit of time and then going back to it.
I've had some inconsistency with it, but when I get it right, it's what it promises to be.
Fully charged batteries, slow draw till heat then increase draw for approx 10-15 sec, let off, hold your draw, unscrew the cap nearly off, shake, retighten cap, release your draw. Repeat.
And consider throwing an Omicron into your choices.

Thanks Adobewan! Will do as you say this weekend! I saved up for something that seems like Sour Something. I am willing to give the TV lots more chances...maybe I'm just having a bad week.

I was seriously looking at the Solo last night - the only thing is the glass, and carrying that around, seems scary!

The Omicron seems amazing but I would have to make my own oil, or wait for the herb thingy.

I've made oil and concentrates before , but live on the other side of the USA from most of you guys...so what I get is what I get - I never even know if it's what it is supposed to be!

Rest assured, it has been tested. Everything gets tested. Tested, tested, and tested more. Then more testing. I'm a nuclear engineer by profession, I live safety, and I live testing. We are testing the Revolution in the same exorbitantly rigorous manner that we tested the ThermoVape. I love testing. I test my new testing methods before I let them be called a test. I test so much the word "test" starts to look misspelled because it's become some abstract state of existence. I'm actually testing the Revolution right now, and It likes it. It has to like it, it has no choice, because that's all it will get until it passes everything I can imagine throwing it's way, with flying colors, and pain, and it likes it. The testing pain is pounded in. Then tenderized with more testing. Then pounded in again. This is the way it is.

Just used the TV outside for the first time, very interesting. Here in Oregon it is a sunny 37 degrees Fahrenheit right now. Now I know vapor exhale under these conditions will look better so thats not my comment. First, I'm properly medicated again. Satisfied. Second, the TV did react to its environment just like it was supposed to. I think the cooler incoming air made the hit heat, and browning of material, easier to control. I was able to use a warmup time and things happened slower so I was able to observe more.

I am also investigating what I call the "angle of the dangle". What I mean by this is TV orientation to vertical/horizontal while in operation. The thermocore generates a lot of heat. When I use the TV straight up and down 2 bad things happen. First I drool into it (yes a nail biter and a drooler . . I know). Second, the heat from the thermocore seems to translate straight upwards very rapidly. You can feel the radiant heat from it on your face and lips several inches away when looking at it with the cap open. Using the TV at a 45 degree angle sends some of the heat up and towards your hand and helps regulate conduction into the bowl possibly? I'm sure my analysis is sophomoric at this point but the journey here, as well as the destination, has been great. More testing . . .

Edit: Taste was the best yet on that outside use btw.

I think you would be quite happy with the SOLO. Don't worry about the glass. It can withstand small drops. When I'm out, I usually just wrap the stem in a paper towel, but an eyeglass case would make a nice protective case.
I like both the Solo and TV. I wouldn't give up either and think they complement each other perfectly.

We are on track with the Revolution. We don't like pre-orders or waiting lists, we like to release a product and have it be available to you immediately.

It is coming soon, very soon, not today, but very soon.

It's my pleasure! We are on target, within striking distance! I'm calling the end of the week Saturday at midnight. We have all of the parts, we have people taking them around the block. We are honing our assembly methods and testing every assembly sequence and configuration permutation.

Did I mention we are testing it? It is being tested. It is being tested in-house and by independent objective 3rd parties. Independent verification is a crucial step in the design evolution process. I don't like roses. -or rose colored glasses. I want to hear the criticism and the honest impressions of people that don't have a vested interest in it's scheduled release for construction date. We pull no punches in our testing efforts. It is being tested. Is this is how you spell test: "test"? it looks strange. Maybe it's spelled "proven"? I won't rest or release it until I am absolutely convinced that it is dialed-in, tuned, optimized, and proven beyond all question.

I think it will be Saturday, but I'm not done testing.

Cheers!

Actually it comes into the four holes in the Delrin cover into a space below it then through four different holes into the heat core body then up under the ceramic insulator (what I think you're talking about?) and into the chamber with the heater. It doesn't really matter too much what happens before it gets there, the chamber is very much hotter. Not just the element itself, but the walls, insulator and everything else 'in sight' is hot by IR radiation and is in turn emitting IR back. It's called 'the kiln effect' as I recall. Direct contact with hot metal doesn't have to happen, although a lot of that goes on too. More over, it's sort of averaged going through the apertures in the bowl floor.

Anyway, as I understand such things it's a very solid design. I suspect by intent. If it's not a very good design, a guy can make his own replacement core and have a go at improving it I guess.

Cool(and funny) regarding all the testing TV, just something to keep in mind during testing, I think FC members may be as interested in the performance of the Revolution as well as it's ability withstand ocean depths, the cold of deep space, or a hobo's morning breath

Please include some cloud production in your initial testing vids.
Good luck!
