Hey guys and gals,

Anyone know if there's typically a 4/20 sale? If so, what's the usual percentage off? Impatiently waiting for the next drop, but wondering if it's worth waiting longer.

I'm hoping someone can give me a push in the right direction with my P80 build. I went with an amboyna burl that should turn out somewhat like this beauty.
tetrap80brightburlblack-1200x1200.jpg

I hadn't decided on what style of holes I wanted for the heater holes and Ralph suggested the cutout in this picture as it fits well with a burl. I agree with him that it does look really nice but I figured I could come up with something more unique yet I haven't been able too. I want the pattern to be as minimal as possible to show off the beautiful wood but I'm racking my brain trying to think of something that would not only fit the wood properly (like the above design) but also that I'll love. My first though was something Lord of the Rings inspired say something in Sindarin but that would create holes and wreak the runes. To me a P80 like this would fit best in that universe as opposed to something scifi for example. I just don't want to hold up my build anymore, granted I am waiting on more fumed stems to come in stock anyways.

I feel like a bad ass double posting so please merge mods as I can't edit my original post. I spent a good couple hours searching (and catching up on my middle earth history haha) after I posted that last night and my favorite image is this one.
middle-earth_lifestyle_1_20200315022525_500.png

It's a slight twist on the usual Tolkien symbol in that the center rounded part doesn't touch at the bottom which would work perfectly. Now the question is how it would look with the wood. I'm waiting on Ralph to send me some images of the finished wood and then I'd easily be able to photoshop the symbol onto the wood to see how it should turn out. There were a few really cool dragon images but I think they're all too large when I'm trying to keep as much of the wood exposed as possible.

I'm going to look into Swiss folk lore as well as see if I can find anything of interest as that would go will with the home country it's coming from. I really wish my brain wouldn't over think things so much sometimes lol.

Hey @SquirrelMaster !

Since no one else is making any suggestions, I might as well try to help narrow something down. I really like where you're going with the stylized J.R.R.T. - also a very simplified and stylized dragon would look really nice too - kind of a serpentine looking dragon with a twisting and turning body to compliment the burl would be nice. I also really like the simple twist and turn design Ralph made on the burl TP80 shown as an example. I would probably request that he make me something very similar but unique, that compliments the burl pattern well. I'm sure I've also seen some Buddhist or hindu style symbols that twists and curves like that, so maybe there is a Buddhist type symbol out there that would both go well with the burl, but also have some personal meaning attached?

Hope that helps narrow it down a little. Personally I wouldn't worry too too much about the cutout. I think the main star of the show should be that absolutely beautiful and stunning burl.

Cheers!

When using the tetra thru glass, does anyone have a problem with how wide open the airflow is? I find putting my grinder on the top, covering the metal grill, really helps get milky hits.

Thank you for the input @Arbornaut those are some good suggestions. I was looking at the "om" symbol
Aum_Om_black.svg

which I do like as well. It speaks to my ever increasing desire to achieve inner peace (the world is pretty stressful at times). I'm not a religious person anymore (raised protestant) but Buddhism is the the one I find fits my mindset the most especially after a good vape session. My VAS sure doesn't fit it well though .

I like the idea of a dragon as well so thank you for suggesting that as I had put it out of my mind after a quick search but I'm going to go look some more for a good dragon image.

Thanks again, and stay safe everyone.

Oh wow, I think that's pretty perfect!. Everyone could certainly use a little more "om" in their lives, and dry herb vapes are certainly a good tool to assist with that. I think that design would flow very well with burl grain, so it definitely has my vote.

After a week or two my honeymoon phase with the tetra wore off, and I started to be concerned with efficiency after noticing how green my AVB would get before i had to replace it to get more vapor. I switched back to my dynavap and i found i was getting just as high or higher than a basket pack from half the bud. Maybe convection isnt for me. I found the tetra would only fully extract in the center, and the bud too brittle after that to stir it without it all falling out. Putting a screen on top would really just brown my bud and give me no vapor. Ive tried adjusting temps and resistances all over the place, but the experience is pretty much the same. I bought a WPA and tried stem packs and that seemed like an even bigger waste of weed. Plus there was no draw resistance so It was like inhaling thru an empty adapter. Not very pleasant to try to inhale “loose vapor” like that. Putting something on top of the Tetra Grill helped alot with this.

Don't get me wrong, it gives good hits. But only one or two-3 before the bowl stops giving vapor even when being a pretty light color. Its like a one hitter.

maybe id just like session conduction more for the efficiency? The tetra just blows through my weed. I just cant afford to kick bowls when they are still green on the sides and light brown in the center.

I dont have my TetraP80 yet, but have you tried different draw speeds? Like starting with a slow draw but ramping it up near the end? I have a few convection vapes with wide open airflow (flowerpot showerhead is one), and draw speed can make a huge difference with efficiency. I would try slowing your draw speed and less time on the trigger. Honestly it took me about a week to really dial in the Milaana2 which is on demand convection. It has more restriction in the airflow, but its definitely open. I've found that once the heater is pre heated a bit, and I start my draw - I only hold the button for a few seconds before letting go, and continuing to draw for a few more seconds as the heater cools. I went from experiencing exactly what you describe (dark roast in centre, green around perimeter) and only two good hits. I'm now able to get 4-5 decent hits by just slowing my draw and shorter time on the heater. At first I was trying to draw fairly hard while holding the botton the entire time. The Milaana is not regulated temps tho, so it could be totally different based on temp setting of the TP80.

That all being said, I think a lot of people actually enjoy the fast extraction of these on demand vapes. I personally use my ArGo when I want to slowly sip some vapor over 15 minutes or so. I grab the on demand convection for a quick hit or two here and there, and I do not use them for sessions. It could be on demand convection isn't really you're preference for sure, but I wouldn't give up just yet. People are definitely getting some nice even AVB with it out there, so hopefully someone else with lots of Tetra experience can chime in.

Cheers!

Edit: just one more thing. I also found that I was over filling the baskets. I found much more even AVB once I only loaded them about 2/3 full. Dont even really need to stir.

How do you fill the bowl ? Do you insert your material in the bowl then add the cap? Or do you fill the cap itself ? The second option is the most efficient.

Funky recommends using the "Warmup" (3 clicks) feature before use. As @Arbornaut says, preheating helps enormously to get the Tubo Tetra working well. IMO, joint-packing is not as efficient as using the rimmed baskets. The baskets work best up to 3/4 full max with a light packing of product. I also stir after each use, but many users report that they never stir, YMMV.

Do you use the "Cruise" function? I set the cruise time to 15 seconds, & hit it after about 4 seconds to let the device get up to the temperature that has been set. When dry vaping with a WPA, I periodically carb cap, but when used thru water, carb capping is not necessary. Also try adjusting your resistance in increments of 0.002 ohms up from the device's designated resistance in order to increase heating.

The Tubo Tetra is a microdosing champion, it keeps producing vapor, quite amazing really, I just cannot go thru my product.

What are you looking for out of this vape?

Personally, I think you will find disappointment if you were seeking a session vape.
I LIKE that I can get big rips and find full extraction in just a few draws.

I aint got no more time to spend than that!

I also love that you can milk the low temps though, with a nice warm heater, I'll leave it running on session mode using it like a lighter for my bowl, which is typically the spiky bent stem. So I use the stem like a j hook pipe with the Tetra upside down when drawing, then remove it to clear each hit (my ocd lol) and rest it on the table in between (or pass it to a friend)

I pretty much always load the basket screen at the edge of the joint, and get extremely even extraction as I temp step starting as low as 345 and ending as high as 425 (I do like to rotate the Tetra around the joint to a slightly different spot for each hit, though not really necessary at all)

Of course another variable is the herbs' consistency, plus how they are ground and packed, then how you draw is a huge factor as well. Can take quite a while to get used to any new vape, it is especially difficult if you are already used to another very different one and are still using it along with the new one...

I find all my glass stem-based pure convection on demand vapes to be among the most efficient and effective for me personally, with fantastic flavor and vapor quality. I find most session conduction hybrids to be less enjoyable and more wasteful, while the VapCap is more of a fun toy since it is a totally unique heating technology and special vapor experience (but less simple and more tedious to use with less reward for me at least). To each their own ofcourse, but it's important to keep in mind how different some vaporizers' experiences can be.

Curious now... I've been looking for the absolute most efficient vape I can find (Dynavap is out of the question). I understand logs are the best, but I've been under the impression a TETRA P80 is essentially the closest to a portable log. I'd ideally want portability, and the OLED temperature screen and fast heat-up of the TETRA is very enticing, but would I be better off going with an actual log vape if efficiency is my #1 concern?

log vape and tetra do have comparable efficiency, both being pure convection on demand using glass stems (there are now many vapes like this, from RBT, MistVape, Dreamwood, MPL, even Alan who also makes logs, among others) so no you are not better off with a log vape, unless you want to have it plugged into the wall only using at home (with slower initial heat up, but ability to leave it on for hours, albeit only regulated straight voltage power without precise temp control) Anyway, absolute most efficient is tricky to say as there are a lot of options, but Tetra P80 is a very solid option using shallow basket screen loads in the end of the stem joint! One thing worth mentioning specifically for Tetra is that it is 18.8mm glass stems (like some others I mentioned) whereas logs tend to use a narrower 14mm diameter (like some others I mentioned) so that could be a factor for you, though it is possible to use the smaller size in vapes that use the larger size with a special mod, the reverse is of course impossible...

It depends if you want it to be on-demand, or you can wait 3-4 minutes.
If you need to vape 0.1g On-Demand, TP80/Tetrax is a great option. even less, like 0.05 it works.
Logs aren't on-demand, as @Shit Snacks mentioned.

Vaping connoisseur would tell you that the TP80 isn't designed for less than 0.1g, because of its 19mm joint. well.. I'm not sure this is true. maybe TP80 isn't designed for that, but it is possible. the heater is strong enough to kick tiny amounts too.

Yeah you just won't get as many hits out of a shallow load is all and may want to use higher temps... (also btw in use a log actually is technically on demand pure convection too, it is just not an instant heat up, Tetra is instant on demand, like most pure convection portables)

Hmm, my tetra must be broken. It doesn't behave the way anyone of you described it.

micro-dosing champion? Small loads i don’t even get vapor, if i add a basket on another basket to keep herb in, its really hard to get any vapor at all. The only way i can get vapor is cranking it to 435 ish and packing the basket as much as it can go. Even then, it only vapes the top of the basket and leaves a dark “line” in the basket and theres green on the edges. If i stir it, everything just falls out when put upside down.

I guess im going back to the dynavap because it can produce huge clouds with like half of what the tetra uses. My tetra blasts thru herb, and half the time im wasting it. Very inconsistent clouds and avb. It must be user error or my device is broken. Every load is like a one hit and then i dont get anymore vapor.
