suggestions please: on demand, home, but non-plugin, somewhat compact, convection?

my VAS is kicking up a notch. looking to acquire some

here's my style:
  • at home only, really just when winding down in the hours before bed.
  • want to be mobile in my house, so no plugin, but doesn't have to be pocketable
  • mostly microdosing
  • hit it and quit on demand style (might take a few hits over the course of a couple hours)
  • I don't need instant heat up, i don't mind waiting when I wan to take my one or 2 hits
  • like being really efficient. hate wasting
  • cleaner airpaths

a lot of times I'll just load up the tiniest amount in the evening, have a couple of hits here or there, i will gradually up temp to extract and my abv will end up on the darker side after multiple "sessions" on teh same load.

history: first got a cfx and xmax starry. didn't understand session conduction, would take a hit, get distracted, whole thing burned up. got a flowermate swift pro. this ws my go to. battery was horrible, but it lived with a USB power brick, so basically always plugged in but mobile around home. hated that the charge port was on the bottom so I couldn't stand it up while it was plugged in. I'd load it up and hit it a time or two, turn it off. chill for a while, warm it back up, hit or 2, maybe give it a stir get another hit or 2 before bed.

kinda want to move away from swift pro because of air path concerns with such frequent use. thought about upgrading to the new cfv or tera. conerned about the bowls are a little more "conductiony" than adertised.

Really one of the main things is if i have it warmed up and take a hit and then zone out, I don't wnat to waste anything. and then later i realize oh, one more puff. and warm it up again. clean air path

I got an EQ recently and I like the experience and usage, but the setup is tough tying me to the location and i feel like I have too many "things" going on with it with whips and bags and bowls. I usually elbow pack, fill up like half a bag, immediately pull the elbow to help cool. then walk off and have my hit or two, but then i have annoying noisy bag rustling my jimmies while i'm eentering chill mode. I guess once I hit it, I don't want to worry about cleanup or stuff right then and not burn up eerything.

I'm getting some vapcaps soon to try because I think the usage with the magnet heat sink is kinda exactly what I want to take a hit or two and set it down immediately to get the heat off it. I'll probably start with a torch, but if it works out I would definitely be looking into a portable induction heater to use with it. this might be the ideal solution

is there something with like a glass stem that is a portable that can be sort of elbow packed and hit and the stem removed to never overtoast material? Like I was thinking about the fury2 or something like a solo 2 or air? where you could stem pack, hit it, and then pull out right away and then turn it off. then if you want another hit in like 30 min, fire it back up for a few mins to heat, reinsert stem.

sorry for massive post. any suggestions for my usage would be appreciated.

Do you own a box mod for e-ciggies?

Then try the Splinter, iHeat, Stempod and the like... all being on demand convection vapes coming with a standard 510 connec for use with conventional e-ciggie box mods and 18650 cells.

No box mod?

Try self contained on demand convection vapes coming as unregulated or regulated wooden box mod style units for use with 18650 cells, like the Milaana, Lil'Bud or upcoming regulated Lil'Bud Elite... and some others, I probably forgot to mention.

All of the above mentioned, have their bowl located within the removable direct draw stem rather than within the heating unit itself, which makes removing your herb after a draw or two and cooling it a breeze BTW

Third variety interesting for you might be butane driven portables, like the Vapcaps, the Sticky Bricks, Lotus, Hammer and others. They come in conduction and convection style varieties and need heating with a butane torch lighter.

Something semi portable, though still plug-in are log vapes. Basically small wooden cylinders with a heating tube inside. Easy to set up and use (plug in, wait till hot, insert direct draw stem or WPA with your herb, enjoy) and with a 2 or 3 meter extension cord you're mobile within a given room and you could also cary a log easily in your jeans pocket into any other room or a friend's home for a visit, as long as it has a wall socket :p
Try Underdog, E-Nano, HI, Woodscents...

The tubo evic fits what you want. Instead of having a separate box mod as in the splinters it's contained within the vape itself. It's powerful and similar to a plug-in log vape although it's a portable. You can change the temperature and use it on demand or as a session vape set to whatever time you want.

As for log vapes, if you don't mind a plug-in you might check out the woodscent because it has a vapcap included in its structure.

And as already mentioned if you like the vapcap but don't like butane you might consider getting a heater for them.

You did a good job describing what you're looking for. I like not feeling rushed and not cooking my material between draws.

I like the Fierce and Fury 2 glass accessories for removing between hits like you describe, especially with a wpa and a bubbler since it's more awkward to put a bent stem down.

For on demand convection I reach for my Lil Bud more than my Tubo X or Splinter because I dig the the unregulated, single button operation.

@bossman, the only prob with the popular vapes likes Fierce, Fury 2, Tera & CFV(?) from reading the reviews is that the consensus of opinion is that the vapor quality in terms of flavor & density is not up to the quality of the Ghost, Tubo, Splinter, Milaana, Lil Bud, Firewood 5 & other top shelf convection vapes which is rated excellent. And don't forget that @2hrs said he intends to only use the unit at home, so he doesn't need the extra portability of the former mentioned. Just my :2c:.

I’ll risk all and also add the grasshopper to your list. Actually, I’d rather put it on your radar.

If you don’t know the vape, here’s a link: https://www.grasshoppervape.com/

A true and unique convection vape. Right now, the company is going through growing pains and there seems to be a spike in warranty claims and (unfortunately) they are WAY behind in resolving the claims.

So I would wait for now, but add to your wish list down the road. I love mine!

thanks for all the suggestions. Still plan on getting some vapcaps for sure.

after researching all the suggestions in this thread I think the tubo evic is probably exactly my style. I love that you can charge it with microUSB (have charging all over the house, can just plug it in and leave it til next time or use plugged in in a pinch). the form factor seems weird, but like I said doesn't need to be pocketable for me but mobile around house. the use cases seem like exactly what I want.

ugh just how to order, i didn't realize they are only dropped every so often...

The milaana and some of the other unregulated recommendations look right up my alley too...but I just pulled the trigger on a firewood 5 black friday sale after checking out reviews . This thing looks awesome for my usage and the multi bowl thing might be kinda useful to just load them up, have only this device (and maybe ABV jar) laying around...for random usage here and there. That's the biggest issue with arizer EQ is I don't really want a whole "station" with attachments and all this "gear"...need more lowkey, thing that I can hide away for company etc.

edit: great just got email about a new tubo evic drop too.... oh VAS take me away. Also my new EQ just cracked on the plastic ring on the top (or was like that and i never noticed) but the vendor offered to replace it and I asked if I could have a store credit and even thought I like the EQ in use, form factor might just make me go with something else entirely... (maybe use that credit towards the vapcaps I want)

Hey one other criteria question. I kinda prefer an easy draw. sometimes i feel like i pull a neck muscle on my swift pro. which ones are better on draw and which oones of the ones suggested here should I avoid because of tighter draw?

I can only personally vouch for the Ghost, Splinter & Splinter Z as having a comfortable draw. But any unregulated, convection vapes like the Milaana 1 & 1.5 & Li'l Bud will be fine, but you don't know yet if you would like an unregulated vape. From what I read, even the Arizer Solo & Air have draw resistance because you're sucking a straw.

Not sure if youre into butane, but the Sticky Brick seems to hit all of your criteria. Top level vapor quality, all convection, easy draw resistance, good with micro loads. Relatively low maintenance home unit that can be moved around easily.

If you get vapcaps and don't like butane you might consider a portside mini. I'd stopped using my vapcaps because I kept combusting. I love them now that I have the portside.
Lol, the hot click prevents accidental combustion, not the induction heater ;)

The Tubo airflow is remarkably open.
I consider the Tubo to be like a portable EQ, in some ways. Definitely a staple choice. It’s nice stepping away from a dedicated station with powerful portable freedom.

VapCaps have quite a restricted draw, it’s the only vape I’ve tried that’s given me discomfort.

But you’ve been given great advice and suggestions.

I would definitely have the Grasshopper on your radar too, but do your homework

Get a Portside Mini Induction Heater by Pipes, sold on here and a Dynavap. You'll never look back. I've used a Pax3, a Firefly 2, and a Volcano. My Dynavap with the Portside are my go-to because it gets me where I need to fast, with minimal hassle.

As for restriction don't pack it too tight, just lightly tamper it down and fill it to the brim. Get an Omni it gives you better control over airflow or if you don't mind a learning curve you can get a regular Nonavong and adjust the carb to let in some cool air and reduce overall restriction allowing for an easier cooler draw with some vapor.

Can't go wrong with a Dynavap, even if you don't get the Induction heater you'll have a blast with a torch! I did :brow:
