Phattpiggies Wood Shed

Just a dude
I don't have a Milaana but agree that the dual functionality is clever as hell. Beyond the woods used and the interplay of the sections, the profile is pretty fabulous IMO. It seems like that profile would be pleasing for an individual who happens to be fucking cigar combustion, doesn't it? I remember this style of body in a green acrylic IIRC, along with a couple of concert photos of Lil Kim (maybe? I'm rubbish in this category). At the time, I chuckled at the comparison in curves of their lovely profiles. But I didn't know enough to realise how clever the design (and by extension, you) is. I think you're drastically overestimating the section of your customer base that I represent. You'll have to dumb it down occasionally for me. I've been loving the cross-section pieces with the bits of metals providing definition and separation of the woods. :peace:

That is just astonishing work PP!
Combines two of the best vapes on the market, and looks drop-dead gorgeous to boot.

Hey, @phattpiggie - Happy Sunday!

I just had a thought regarding your enclosure for the skeletor.

Like we've talked about before, could a container be made that is more like table art to sit on display?

Could you take your present design and turn it into a two-tiered one piece unit? And maybe with a rough edge?

I'm not sure why I'm getting all creative this morning...

And a happy Sunday to you too.
@Mr. Me2 I tend to find drugs play a part in me being creative.

I've got a couple of things to finish then I'm going to have a look into some enclosure designs.

Funnily enough I was at a friend's earlier and I saw the corner of a Cherry burr I cut for him.
The sharp 90° cut with flat polished sides looks really good against the natural edge.

I sort of remember the piece you have already but any pictures or links will help me see what's in your minds eye.
I still haven't made a slug, yet :)

A picture of my phattpiggie stem and vc custom rough edge base is in the dynavap thread at post #11640 (I hope).

It's a personal thing; I just like the look of the rough edge pieces. And I liked your initial design of separating the batteries from the rest of the magic. I just thought to take it a step further retaining your battery separation but keeping all pieces in a single enclosure. And why does a box have to be square (or rectangle)?

Talk about making me go look for it, post #11640 was quite a while ago.

My only concern has been the overall size but as an object to admire on a coffee table is a different thing.

I'm open to try any ideas and of course it doesn't have to be regular shaped.

I wonder if others will agree and want something like that; a functional art piece.

Do you think it would be inconspicuous (hiding in plain sight) or smell from use?

@phattpiggie, ?s:

1) is it possible if not using a lighter w/ an acrylic stem, only an induction heater not to have to use a wood buffer between the acrylic stem & tip? between?

2) and in this same scenario, can a light color wood be used as opposed to a dark wood (usually blackwood)?

3) if a customer finds a block of acrylic they really like, would you be willing purchase it for them so as to employ?

4) is it possible to put a carb hole in an acrylic stem?

Thank you.

@Summer
1. I personally wouldn't make a full acrylic stem, the will be heat transfer from the tip which could cause problems with noxious gasses.
2. Yes, @little maggie has one with Pink Ivory ends and I'm sure a quick look thru the Wood Data Base site will help find other lighter woods which will hold a thread.
3. Yes, as long as it's not ridiculously priced. I prefer to have 2 blanks for those 'just in case' scenarios.

Hope this helps.

@phattpiggie, you must have been writing your post as I edited my post to add:

Is it possible to make a carb hole in an acrylic stem?

Thank you again.

The only smell should be from either a stem or herb, both of which can be contained.

@Mr. Me2 not everyone wants to announce their legal/illegal mj use to everyone they entertain, I'm all for hidden in plain sight.

You mean to tell me that's not a great ice breaker. Maybe I've been entertaining wrong all a long.

Phatts your the man. These look absolutely stunning. Dual purpose!!

Your refusal to think inside the box is what makes your work so fucking cool. IMO.

@Summer I am unable to drill carbs at present my drill press isn't accurate enough to do it without spoiling the wood/acrylics. There may be a way round it if you need one.

Finished the trio of Blackwood, Mexican Cocobolo with aluminium finished today.
I still need to get a motorised turntable and set some lights up.

I also had time to get these to shape ready for a final sand and wax.

@xlr8shun sorry no carbs. My drill press has too much wonder so I'm not willing to drill them. Going thru the mid section wood or acrylic is fine but once the drill bit hits the 5mm stainless tube it hops around which then ruins the wood.
I have an idea which may work but it would be impossible to clean any reclaim which migrated out of the hole.

Very nice @Summer thank you for posting that picture, perhaps I'm in the wrong job given the prices they fetch.

@phattpiggie, forgive me if I'm dense, but I'm lost: why does the stainless tube/condenser have to be in the stem when you are drilling a carb hole? And what do you mean by reclaim ... what reclaim?

@Summer not dense at all.
Here's 3 pieces which show the principal of my design.
Condenser showing at both ends, full length to isolate the vapor path from the outer body.

TXWtb7Zm.jpg

Here are the component parts before assembly, the condenser has a fine male thread on it. The Blackwood and acrylic are both female threaded. The parts all get screwed together then turned as one.

With this stem the condenser is two pieces of tube, the Blackwood pieces are threaded.

And here is @Baron23's piece he won in a give away I did with Mom.
nySancE.jpg

There is no way my 2mm drill will make contact on top of the 5mm tube without slipping down the side which will ruin the outer material.
I tried a slot drill, an engineering type cutter but my drill press has too much play in it to allow them to work.

However since you asked I had an idea which may work, I'll make one and post the details of how I go about it.

Reclaim is the condensed vapor which coats the vapor path in vapes. People reclaim it.

Hope this helps.

@Mr. Me2 here's the burr I mentioned, I like the natural edge on the rear and the way the 90 degree cut in the burr looks.

OK, @phattpiggie, I'm almost there in understanding.

1) Why can't you make a carb hole in the acrylic before you put the pieces together?

2) With the M & Omni the space between the condenser & the inner part of the stem, never gets dirty -- only the inside of the condenser. So even though you can't/don't separate the stem from the condenser once screwed together, why would the reclaim (which I know what it is, but thought maybe your meant something different) ooze out of the carb if you keep the condenser immaculately clean w/ frequent cleanings?

Thank you, again.

@Summer the VC condenser is sat inside the body held in place by the x rings. Both of which are on the MP side of the carb creating a chamber between the tip and x ring.
When you draw on the stem air is drawn thru the load and thru the carb into the chamber between the outer body, condenser and x ring then into you.
The condensers on my segmented stems are screwed into the hot end so when you take a draw all the air enters thru the tip. They do not have the VC chamber.
I'll try and get some video or pictures of the stem I made when I first started which will show the problems with a fixed condenser with a carb in it.
A little bit of reclaim manages to get outside the condenser in normal use and it would be squished out the carb hole when you ran a q tip thru it.

@Mr. Me2 that piece of wood sits on the window sill of a friends house. He's brought me a few odd bits round and I cut it up for him as a thank you.
Is that the kind of thing you had in mind?

@Baron23 I'm glad you're enjoying the stem and that it enhances your VC experience.
