This is where I've stopped. Time for a recharge. 96 draws.

That's looking like great battery life man.

I can't remember if this has been asked or not but will the SS coil be user replaceable or would a user have to purchase a new module if the coil goes?

This is indeed amazing battery life! That says a lot about the extraction efficiency! :brow:

The coil is Kanthal ribbon if I recall correctly, not SS, right? :huh:

Can't wait to get my hands on a Nomad now that I am trying not to be a nomad anymore! :p:lol: I think I am putting the Nomad in my rotation when at home and the Eraser will just have to handle outdoor adventures where durability is more important than taste and vapor quality. Except if @Dan Morrison throws in a wooden stem as well! :cool::D And a slim paper craft case like the Okin maybe? :brow:

Ah you are right man it was Kanthal, same query though, would that be user replaceable?

I'll probably be doing the same @natural farmer, using the Nomad at home. Mostly because I'd be scared of losing this vape when out and about.

My GrassHopper is my main out and about vape. The Nomad is too personal and precious. :D

It's Ni-Chrome, not Kanthal. Not the same alloy >> http://www.kidneypuncher.com/kp-blog/NichromevsKanthal

And no it's not user serviceable but the heater is user swappable, provided you bought a spare of course. But it's not a coil per se, in the sense that it's not a round wire wound heater. And I think under normal operation it shouldn't be glowing, and thus should last a long time.

@KeroZen, answered everything accurately!

Here are some quick shots. Pretty much finished now. This sleeve is finished with some antique Japanese paper i had laying around, obviously each sleeve with be different.

@Kalessin , Friction fit.

I know what you're thinking, how do you make a friction fit that's smooth..not too tight..not too loose.. with materials that are constantly expanding/contracting.

Each wood body and sleeve are made to very tight size tolerances for a perfect mating. Just like the Okin boxes. The sleeves may start out a tad tight, but achieve the perfect feel after a little bit of use. They should remain stable throughout the seasons, as seen in my years of testing the Okin boxes I have laying around.

If it ever becomes loose, the fit can be adjusted with a little strip of masking tape on the inside of the sleeve. I've never heard of this happening yet though.

The fit is very secure, no fear of it sliding off in transit or in use.

I looked at lots of other designs for making this connection... but I think this solution is the best. The bottom wooden plate mates up with the surface of the brass plate, so you can't push the sleeve on too far. You just push it on till it stops.

34 pages is tl;dr??! Geez this modern society is really turning people into gold fishes with 5 seconds attention span! :doh:

There's nothing to summarize, it's just a prototype at this point.

apologies, don't mean to sound spoiled. Just that I've read through a lot of the reddit posts and the early parts of this thread.

reading the hundreds of pages of the arizer solo I didn't want to commit so quickly.

A thought I had about the bottom cover:

Why not have the bottom wood section and sleeve attach with a thumb screw the goes through the bottom wood section and into the hole where the brass flathead screw is? That way there would be no tools required for changing the battery or heater module, you just undo the thumbscrew and the bottom plate and the battery and heater module all are released?

Just a thought anyway!

Personally, I'd be annoyed by a protruding thumbscrew. I do, however, have the same (apparent) slight concern about the bottom eventually becoming loose-fitting, and I wouldn't feel good about putting a piece of masking tape on it.

Of course, having stated my concern, I'd still buy it. It's a showpiece.

And, I don't have a better suggestion than what @Dan Morrison has come up with, so there's that. :)

I was envisioning a thumb screw that folds flat. It could be recessed into that bottom piece.

This was one of the connection ideas I looked at. In short, it reduces functionality and versatility.

To retain the rock solid feel of the Nomad, you really want the sleeve to fit tight onto the body so that there is zero perceptible play between the sleeve and body. Having an extra means of fastening is unnecessary IMO.

Kraft paper tape can also be used to make fit adjustments, you'd never know it was there.

I know right now this is a prototype and not ready for distribution. How long does it take to go from current development to actual production. Just wondering.

I view this version as more of a production ready model. I can start production immediately... but to reach my desired price-point, I will need to invest in one or two large machines that are needed in the shop to massively increase efficiency. A milling machine being the most important.

This is where the very soon-to-be announced small pre-order comes in. Pretty much the only thing left to do before going into production.

@namasteIII, I will make one!

Awesome, I definitely want in on that pre-production run.

I appreciate it may cost more in order to support and fund the machinery you need for full production.

Count me in all the way...

@Fat Freddy, I've done all my business through PayPal for years. Seems like the easiest way to do it.

You can definitely start thinking about a print! I can use almost anything on this site, https://shop.thepaperplace.ca/ (Chiyogami, Katazome-Shi, and Lacquered Yuzen)

For anyone interested, I have a photoshop file setup to make samples. Just link me to the paper you'd like to see and I'll post an image of what it'll look like on the Nomad!
