Underdog Log Vapes

What's up dogs, happy Saturday.

Man, that XL core is a heck of a development. It pretty much doubles the core's aperture area. I'm still not sure what to make of it, given the effectiveness of the original, but I could see it being a pretty great option for a 'social' dog to be passed around, and good for more intensive users. And besides, without experimentation we'd still be stuck combusting.

How's it toasting, @Tekhie? Any hotspots that you can see, or is it pretty even? I was pretty delighted that the OS NonG didn't require stirring with my SC2 and OG SC, it proved wrong some misconceptions I had about stem footprint and heat distribution. Hot air currents are complicated business. :science:

Really loving it so far!

Its toasting surprisingly well, with either the OS stems or the new size one. After a short moderately fast draw, the chamber is cooked thoroughly. Darker spot in the center towards a ~1-2 mm of green left around the circumference of the bowl. With larger loads, i prefer a quick stir before the second draw on either of these stems. Unless i load just enough material for 1 hit extractions, which can be achieved with both stem sizes.

Wow, that's so awesome. I have a question....do glass stems fit inside the new core? Superdog?

None of the standard glass stems will fit unfortunately. I did find a few glass pipettes that fits the inner core a bit too loosely, but haven't tried them out yet. For outer chamber, found an 18mm ground glass joint stem that alllmost fit. The (re)search continues. :science:

this looks awesome. interested in seeing/hearing more for sure. great write up @Tekhie

Thanks!
Much much more testing do to, can't wait to share a more thorough impression. Once i break it in a bit more. :whip:

Good stuff. Good stuff. I'm definitely excited about this... I keep thinking about what to call this prototype. Lol what's the matter with me?

Of course underdog xl send easy and simple enough, but it lacks something. So sitting here high as hell pondering what to call it, I just thought of topdog pffft :p

I'm actually really excited for this. I suspect the flavor is going to be a little better due to the larger surface area (based on what I've found on 14mm vs 18mm stems with other devices) so this is pretty exciting for people who like direct-draw or very little water filtration...

I am glad I hadn't even begun thinking about which direction to go for my custom, but I think I'll just sit back and wait now... A tortuga, XLcore dog sounds pretty fucking amazing.

As @Tekhie said... you can always just pack less in these bigger stems... There's no "good" way to pack more into the current SC2 stems without making a really tall pile of herb that gets unevenly vaped and likely charred.

The people have spoken and the people are pleased (or at the very least interested and excited!) thanks @underdog @underdogette

Hey all,

Very happy to join this community! This would be my first post on these forums as a member, but have been coming here for some time now for great advice and help! :D So before even starting, wanted to thanks everyone on the community.

I've only been really introduced to vaporization about 2-3 months ago by my good buddy @Tekhie and let me tell ya, conversion 100% succeeded! :ko:

I was a bit hesitant at the beginning about vaporization, because I did try once to vaporize at another one of my buddies on an Arizer V-Tower and wasn't really impress with the whole thing, but I realize now that my buddy just didn't have enough knowledge to properly use it.

What really convinced me to finally fully explore the world of vaping bud, was actually the grasshopper, which also happen to be the real first vaping device that I used "properly". I was hearing a lot from @Tekhie about different devices, from portables to desktops, but the one thing that kept coming back all the time was the following: "Logs man, everyone swears by them. Once you go logs, you don't go back!".
So yeah... I was left there a bit confused and uncomfortable from those slightly disturbing words.

My first owned device was the Arizer Extreme Q, which i got a crazy deal off a friend that didn't want it anymore because he was more interested on concentrates. So he sold it to me for ~90$ US. Now today, I enlarged my collection with also a Vapcap M and a Boundless CFX. They are all awesome devices, but on the back of my head, I still remembered those disturbing words from Tekhie.

So finally, the wait is over, he finally gets his Underdog SC2 + the mini one and we quickly setup a vape test session on the Friday on that week.

WOW!

From all the devices I have tried so far, the Underdog SC2 was definitely on top side of the list when it came to flavor, quality of extraction, potency and micro dosing. I was amazed by the amount of vapor coming out from such a small amount of bud. I'm one of those that believes that the more the merrier and better, but this puppy proved me wrong. The extraction on single hits were simply too efficient. Filling it more than the edge of the basket seems to be pure waste at this point. And oh man the flavor on that. We had 4-5 different strains and tried them out. Each one of them we could get the full flavor along with each of its own subtle tastes. I was so impress that I'm seriously looking into getting one myself too soon although I was more of a "go big or go home" type of guy.

Now recently, after he got permission from @underdog and @underdogette, he revealed to me the prototype underdog (Big Core?, sorry I forgot the "codename") that he had been testing without me knowing little sneaky that he is. I was really lucky to have a chance to run some test on it and provide some feedback to Tekhie which I'm sure have pass along to the team at Underdog. My impression about it? Should this little puppy get on the market, I'm the first to get it!:bowdown::clap:.
When I thought that it couldn't get better than the SC2, except with the "Go Big" factor, this one delivers, but not at the detriment of the other aspects that make the SC2 so notorious. The flavor is still amazing, best I had. The quality of extraction is highly efficient whether you pack that big bowl, or you micro dose. About that big bowl... that thing is a monster! MONSTER! Like I said before, I'm one of those that didn't believe in micro dosing. Following that, my first test and instinct, was to take the biggest bowl, and pack a fairly good amount of bud in there, and test it. Mistake! Not an unpleasant mistake though, but that hit simply destroyed me to the point that I was so high, we needed a 2nd testing session. So this beast can go big, and I mean BIG.

Another big plus on that new core IMO, is the augmented airflow. This allows you to have such a wider range where you can play with your draw speed and technique. The stem that fits in the inner core provides a much greater airflow than the SC2. As for the one that fits outside the core, the airflow is so great that you almost dont even feel that it is actually going through something. Like if it was free air.

All in all, this is some amazing work and extreme devotion from a great team @underdog and @underdogette. Both the SC2 and the new dog are amazing. And I'm really eager for its release if it makes it there. Like i said previously, I'd be the first to buy it!

Sorry for the long post, I guess I got excited for this first post! lol

Cheers!

AFAIK this new core is called the Alpha..

Nice reveal and assessment @Tekhie and @tacosupreme! Well put!

I have an Alpha over here too.. I really like it! It's just like a big SC2.. perfect addition for the hedonist who goes through many GonG's in a sitting.. It's nice to have the option to step it up a notch like that.. and the flavor is awesome! especially w/ larger loads in the big stem, at lower temps :mmmm:

Lately I've been favoring the Slow Draw and the Flavor Chase the most, so I've been running the Alpha in the 10-11v range, w/ great rips and clouds...
At first I started ~2v higher and I was using a quick draw, getting massive clouds, effortlessly.. This thing is very capable, either way.. like @tacosupreme touched on, the wide open airflow makes it tricky to gauge just how big of a rip you're getting at first; you find out soon enough though :D I did the same thing and loaded the big bowl up extra fat the first time, just to see what it was like.. awesome! :ko: I never weigh my my herb before loading it, but if I had to guess I'd say now my loads are ~.15g in the larger stem (it can definitely hold a little more, but at some point it just becomes too much to stir IMO), and maybe half that amount (if not a little less) for the smaller (internal) Alpha stem..

I just vaped ~.2g in the large stem @10.4v, flavor town and much fog! :ko:

BTW The stems for the Alpha are exclusive to it.

I'll see about setting up a milk shot of it later on some time.. I'm almost out of herb though, so we'll see..

The Tall One got some Green Goddess in the mail today, including this beauteous ~5g nug, happy Christmas! We took it for a spin on the Zebrawood glulam SC2, 14mm NonG, Matrix sidecar, goofed for a while and got some Chinese food. Not a bad Monday, we both made it to the stratosphere for a buck and change (plus about seventy bucks of Chinese food). It's just silly how efficient these logs are.

I read some some old reviews saying that the Enano hits a lil harder than the UD. Is this still true even with VVPS and the nylon stems?

It was never "true" to begin with. This is a matter of perspective so not everyone will agree. Some think the nano hits harder, some say UD does. There's a small handful of log vapes from other manufacturers that get a lot of praise as well.

The "truth" is that there are a lot of variables that may give someone the impression that one log hits harder than another. Heater temp and warm up time, draw speed, load size, grind consistency, and herb quality. The thermal properties of the stem, core, and wood, as well as ambient temp and the voltage output of the outlet will all have a noticeable effect on the performance.

Log vapes are capable of producing thin wispy hits, or huge dense lung busters, or anywhere in between. If you could nail down all those variables and create a more balanced playing field you could get a better idea of all their similarities and of what sets them apart, but that would be rather difficult. Without the ability to do so, I feel any statements of a particular logs superiority fall into the realm of personal opinion.

Well said. I couldn't agree more.

I never weigh my my herb before loading it, but if I had to guess I'd say now my loads are ~.15g in the larger stem.....I just vaped ~.2g in the large stem.....
I randomly weighed a bunch of loads yesterday, and it turns out I was over estimating how much I was loading before by ~.05g.... it makes a good difference... I typically vape closer to ~.075-.1g in the large stem, sometimes up towards ~.15g at the very top end, depending on voltage, but it can definitely hold some more..
I'll see about setting up a milk shot of it later on some time.. I'm almost out of herb though, so we'll see..
I ended up taking a number of milk shots w/ the big stem, so here are a few..

I took some pics of how my AVB usually looks, it was a little bit darker in person FWIW... For reference, I actually weighed the herb in the top pic before vaping, it was .075g.. the one in the 2nd pic is closer to .125g.. both vaped at different temps, I'm sure.

Heya Dogs... we're baaaaaaaack. :freak:

We had a busy/fun (work/pleasure) whirlwind trip around the NorCal/Oregon/Washington area and are glad to be home. We'll have a short week again next week with the lead up to the long holiday weekend so will be working double time until then. We should have all outstanding orders shipped out today excluding 1 custom Dog which should be finished within a few days so we're in pretty good shape considering we missed a week. :borg:

Looks like some of you have been having fun with the Alphas while we were gone. Nice to see those beasts being put to good use. We'll be gauging interest in these for a while trying to decide if we want to invest in a full production run. If anyone definitely wants one (or more) let Underdogette know, I'll probably be making a limited run (non-production) of them as time allows in the next month or two. Priority will be on getting them into the hands of experienced UDs first as is typical with our boutique/limited items.

On the subject of limited items - I'm just about ready to finish up another batch of Micros (the tall ones with full power cartridges) so those will be available again shortly, at least for a little while. Still unsure on whether we're going to do a full run of those as well.

Alright, back to the shop for this Dog.

I have to say, the Alpha looks very interesting. Seems the early results are very positive.

Yeah I figured this would be the case for most vapes out there, I'm just going by all the comments on this forum I've read so far and it seems certain vapes are easier to milk a huge cloud than others.

But regardless in this case I am leaning towards getting the UD as my 1st plug-in vape, they offer more stems for the price

In addition to all the variables mentioned above, each vape has its own individual heating element and those vary as well. So you might have two Underdogs side by side, everything else the same, and the heating elements will have different set temperatures, resulting in different clouds.

As a little FC bonus, anyone ordering a vape at $225 or more, just mention in your order comments "Free FC VVPS Upgrade Please" and we'll upgrade your vape order to include the new Travel Size VVPS for free.

Happy Friday everyone!
