Has Grasshopper caught up with shipments at all or are they still pretty behind?

I haven't checked this thread in a few days, and I see there's been a lot of discussion re: shipping wait times...

In my experience, you can take whatever GH Labs offers up as an "Estimated Shipping Date" as a worthless tidbit of information that has no connection at all to reality. With me, they have failed to live up to their estimates time and again. And again. And again. And again. And again.

I ordered an SS back in February. I still don't have it. They sent me an address confirmation A MONTH AGO. I still don't have it. When I ask them what's taking so long, they say they're waiting for another shipment of batteries, which will arrive "any day now" That was WEEKS ago.

Their bullshit ad trying to trick people into thinking they can get a Grasshopper in time for the holidays is a fucking joke, and I'm not laughing

since it's long buried in the depths, thought i'd repost my best experience with the hopper!

Ah yes. This video made quite an impression on me the first tine I saw it. It played a role in my decision to purchase. And now, I LOVE my hoppers. Can't wait for xmas, when I get my Orbiter and get to experience the hopper + water phenomenon for myself.

I think it's pretty clear what's going on folks. The batteries are going to the retail outlets since they haven't paid for them yet. We're all paid up (and even due extras for waiting), so what's the incentive for them to ship? Not saying they're ripping us, just that preorders are not top priority and they're going to take their bloody time. :2c:

I doubt that's true. Large shipments from overseas can sit at the port for weeks. So when they tell you they are waiting on a battery shipment that very well could be the truth.

I used to work for a company in The Bay Area that relied heavily on oversea shipments. Our products would be backordered and we would have no real idea when we would actually physically have them, other than they are at the Oakland Port with customs now. And the wait begins...

And can any of you tell me what port is closest to Boulder, CO?

We're totally on the same page here mate.. I'm a January pre-order with 2 SS's and I added another Ti last day before getting $25 more expensive.. I've been getting the same replies and the same bullshitting... oh well.. now you've come down to: "if only I had it for Xmas" which even that now seems a bit too optimistic.. Honestly, I don't want to think what I'll be doing if I get a faulty unit..

Does anybody know how much older pre orders are still open?

From what I understand, all '15 pre-orders have been shipped and it's only '16 that are still open. If you're having people like me and @Purple Lava Lamp then you can understand that we're probably in the very end of the shipment list.

No room for any excused here though.. I don't give a DAMN about their logistics and their delays and their backorders. In case they had seen all this volume of work, parts and all other shit that were going on, the MUST had ordered their battery batch long before so that they could avoid extra delays.
There is always the case of extra apologies and just trying to find trustworthy reasons to keep you waiting a bit longer so that they can "catch up" on the delayed orders.

The most annoying and unpleasant thing though, is that they've made their customers cursing them and not believing whatever their stories and excuses anymore.. I mean, we've been more than patient all this time and now that you're about to reach the fountain and drink some of this so long awaiting water, they are making it harder that ever with all sorts of excuses that someone can come up with... Next thing to hear would be that there has been a global strike on couriers and the air-post!!

Hi Moon,

I've been using my OGB stems with my Orbiter for over a months now and love them.

Both the 5" and the 6.5" work great and neither tip the Orbiter in anyway.

It's a very stable setup, I got a plain Ti mouthpiece to use with the Orbiter without any silicone cover as I didn't want to scratch up my colored mouth pieces.

I said I'd feed back to you on it many many posts ago and forgot to so consider this my update/feedback ;)

*** One thing worth noting is I've noticed a few people have had trouble getting hold of Mike from OGB, I never contacted him when ordering my stems, I just placed an order via his ArtFire page and put the lengths I wanted in the notes section, 2.5 weeks later they arrived. ***

Thanks for the update, GreenHopper. Better late than never. :)

Those OGB stems were one of the options I considered. I ended up going with one of these. Pretty sure someone here recommended them.

Yep slow but sure, that's me ;)

I saw the sneaky Pete stems but only after I had ordered from OGB. They look mostly identical unless you want a custom length.

I would have considered the Globe as an alternative to the Orbiter but I didn't like the logo and writing all over it (could have been removed using PBW) and felt the flat bottom might not be as effective as the Orbiters more spherical design. Plus the Orbiters wooden stand adds something to mix for me.

I do think these smaller bubblers are a better match for the Hopper and Vaping, the larger units seem to remove more of the flavor.

It has less to do with logistics. Shipments from China take longer than you might think with no real ETA. It is by seas; It's cargo. They are not waiting for an e packet, and air shipment costs a ton. It is what it is.

Also, keep in mind that these are custom sized batteries. From overseas manufacturing to delivery, it will take months. And by the time they get them, they are already ordering another batch because of the high demand and that will take months. So, unless you put your order in when they actually have stock, you will wait.

So my SS Grasshopper ordered from Toronto Hemp Company just showed up in the mail, and problems have occurred immediately out of the box but have resolved themselves already?

I charged the battery to 4.2 on my Nitecore D2 external charger, tossed it in, cleaned up the hopper and packed it. Clicked the button, and after 1-2 seconds of straight red, bright blue and less bright red flashing like police lights. The mouthpiece got hot quickly during this and the battery discharged to 4.02 within 10 seconds. I clicked on and off a few more times, kept happening. I took the battery out.

So then oddly enough, I believe I had the button depressed before putting the battery back in and it started up immediately. few seconds red, then straight blue. I took a few hits, they were huge clouds. Powering on and off the unit now appears to not cause the police lights anymore.

Ok so it's working perfectly? But I'm concerned that the initial police lights are a sign that the sensor is indeed broken. How should I proceed?

Welcome to hopper Land!

What temp setting are you using? The huge clouds may be a sign of overheating, but it depends on what you were set at. Have you looked at the gh resources page yet? You'll get great trouble shooting suggestions there.

sk8man121

Frozen_Vaporent
I should rephrase, the clouds aren't insane but they're what I would expect the hopper to put out at setting 3. Is there a way to tell precisely if it's overheating?

I ask because months ago my gh crapped out. Before I got the cop lights, it stayed red for and never turned blue but the h after was cooking. I took a pull and got a HUGE harsh cloud. Turns out, I combusted.

So the easiest way to tell is to look at the abv. Mine is usually a golden brown.

sk8man121

Frozen_Vaporent
Ah, gotcha. ABV looked good over here, typical golden roasted brown.

Ok quick new report, I recharged the battery back to 4.2 on my Nitecore, reinserted it and the slow red and blue police lights started again! Mouthpiece heated up quickly, I turned it off. Now, the police lights are gone and it's back to operating normally.

Do you guys think it has something to do with the fact that I'm charging the battery to capacity externally and not using the usb charger? It seems like after some power is drained, the device functions normally. Is this a known issue?

I don't remember hearing that. I'm guessing at some point you're gonna need a warranty claim. Cop lights aren't a good sign...

Is it normal for the hopper to discharge approx 0.10 volts per 10 second turn-on/turn-off?

Ok so after a few tests, the police lights ONLY occur when the battery is charged to full 4.2V capacity. They last for 5 or 6 seconds and then the light turns solid blue. They do not go back to police for the rest of the battery's life, until it is fully charged externally back to 4.2, in which case the police lights start again and dissappear after 5-6 seconds.

Should I be concerned about this, or is it just a weird quirk?

There are two kinds of police light (red/blue) patterns. One is for overheating, one is heat sensor failure.
Not saying you have one of these problems. Maybe you have a battery that, at it's peak, is a bit too 'hot' (voltage-wise); too much for Hopper and sets off this warning. Soon after, the battery is a little discharged, and no warning. Just a speculation.
Try another battery?
Try charging internally, using Hopper's charger?

Could it be the battery?

Do you have a spare battery to play with?

Unfortunately the spare batteries I've ordered from HL haven't even been shipped yet as far as I know. I just tried charging with the hopper charger to Blue and upon turning it on, getting the cop lights for 2-3 seconds then normal. I have a feeling it could be that the battery is indeed a bit "hot," maybe?

Just out of curiosity, is your battery a GHB1 or GHB2?

It should be printed on the side of the battery casing.

GreenHopper,

It's a GHB2. How hot should the battery be once removed after a 3-4 hit session?

Aaaand the USB charger is now not working at all. Getting no lights. WTF (battery is charging fine on my Nitecore).

Edit: Upen ultratightening the battery door, it's charging again.

Although lithium batteries charge to 4.2 volts, that is not the operating voltage. The operating voltage is 3.7 volts. The batteries will drop off from 4.2 volts fairly quickly and remain at 3.7 volts during regular operation pretty much until the battery dies. I would not worry about the sharp drop in voltage over a short period of time because this is absolutely normal of lithium batteries.

As for the red and blue lights, I would keep using it until you get red and blue lights and it stops working. Then tell grasshopper Labs that you are getting the red and blue lights, and they will ship out a new body immediately and you can ship out your old body after you receive it.

After reading your proceeding messages, I would go ahead and set up a warranty claim right now. I would let them know that every time the battery is fully charged you get the police lights, and then the unit works properly. There is definitely something wrong with it. I would request that they send you a new body immediately and you will ship your part back after you receive. I would not mention anything about it possibly being the battery because then they will want you to send in everything and then send it back to you. Just stick to the police lights and the fact that it should not be happening and I'm sure you will get a new body sent to you.

This sounds good to me. So there's no risk of this thing blowing up in my face....?
