First things first, don't mind the cotton underneath the o-ring. The groove is a few mm too deep so the o-ring needed a little help in protruding out and sealing the top in snug, so the cotton worked like a charm. That along with a few other minor changes are being made for the next print.

I would like to bring you the near future. The worlds first 100% 3D printed porcelain vaporizer. The only part not 3D printed is the o-ring.

Just like any other piece of kitchenware that is glazed in glass, it is completely food and heat safe and the only food safe 3D printable material out right now. It is mostly a solid hunk so isn't as fragile as most glass/ceramicware but should still be handled with care. It is butane powered, controlling the temperature with the proximity of the flame to the hole on the top.

Operation is very simple. I like to think of it in between a log and an mflb that you use like the sticky bricks, I guess. I say mflb because you can feel the heat slightly through the sphere on your mouth so can adjust the temperature that way.

Cleaning is as simple as operation itself. Dump your herb out, pop the screen out and a quick rinse with iso and/or warm water and he's back to looking like new. Fast, simple and effective was what I was going for and boy has he delivered so far!

Tell me that the mouthpiece fits a 14mm female joint?!

So to clarify, the cotton will not be required in final models and this is just a slightly missed tolerance on that print?

Is this meant to be heated with a lighter? Which part is heated with the lighter? Does the butane flame come through the airpath, or are we heating a pan/element which puts heat into the airpath but keeps the flame separate?

Finally - what is the screen made out of? Is it the part underneath the mouthpiece and o-ring? It looks like the cotton too?

Welcome to FC dude! Interesting design you've got there, have there been previous iterations or is this the initial beta?
Thank you! I've been here for a little over a year and it's where I have gained almost all my knowledge on vaporizers that led me to this point. So thank YOU guys! There have been a few iterations before this one but this certainly could be considered a beta.

Honestly, it depends. It definitely takes some practice as with any butane vape. The first couple times I used it, I kind of just held the flame on top of the air path and would get at the least on the verge of combusted black hot spots in the herb. (I'm not sure I ever have actually combusted because I never did see ash) Now I sort of dance the flame back and forth, sort of if you're shaking a tiny pot of popcorn over the stove and I have been getting more evenly vaped abv each time. Here's an example.

You said the o-ring was the only non printed part. What about the screen?

Nope, the cotton is definitely just because of a missed tolerance and won't be needed. The mouthpiece is actually the sphere but I am working on a simple little adapter that will slide into the sphere hole and the other side into a water piece and will be usable that way. It actually feels very ergonomic, at least with my bong. The screens are stainless steel, I just use 3/4 inch pipe screens and squeeze them through.

The butane is in the air path, but should burn cleanly right out of the lighter and if you use decently filtered butane. You hold it like this with your mouth the the sphere and the flame over the top hole while you inhale. Very quick hits and the bowl is deep enough to fit lots of herb. So like a log, it is basically ready whenever you are.

Theres a lot of potential here for custom shapes - you could have a variety of 3D printed designs that use the same basic shape and specs while adding some personality to each vape.

I see, lol for some reason I thought the stem sticking up the top was the mouthpiece lol

This makes a lot more sense. I wonder being a sphere if this mouthpiece would mate up nicely to a bubbler just be holding it in place by hand? Of course, if you are making an adapter even better :)

Being a flame in the airpath design, this is not something I would use (I don't use flame powered vapes unless the flame is isolated from the airpath, I personally do not take any chances and I am aware that my requirements of vapes are more strict than most), but I know for a fact that plenty of others here are likely to love this product :)

I love that the whole airpath is made of glazed porcelain and that you didn't mess with questionable materials either for safety (ie: plastics/polymers) or practicality/cleaning (ie: wood which IME gunks up terribly over heavy use) in the airpath. If you make a future design with electronic heat or with a flame isolated from the airpath - I'm pretty confident you could count me in!

I'm very glad you mentioned this! A variety of shapes, to a degree - and as long as they don't interefere with the inside dimension are VERY easy and do-able.

The other thing, that believe me, the artist inside me is hurting badly that it cannot be yet, but hopefully will be in the near future - I do not print these myself and so right now having them pre-glazed is the only option. When un-glazed is available to me, it is my intention and desire to glaze them myself and really add personality and variety to these as I could use multiple colors and designs.

So please bare with me on that because if I could, I'd already have been doing it! :huh:

I hear you guys about the air path. I don't think I will change this one up, just because it would draw out more time designing, printing and testing. But I will keep it rolling around in my head and if I do it will just be a slightly different version a little down the road.

But there are plenty of ideas for separate vapes entirely from Noochie here that I will definitely keep it in mind while designing!
 
I prefer manual vapes, so this one interests me. However, I too do not like flame in the airpath.

Any chance that you could modify the design to isolate the flame from the airpath?

Just out of curiosity, why? What concerns you about a torch in the airpath? Butane when ignited produces only c02 and h20, so given you're using quality butane I see no benefit of isolating the airway. Especially since it convolutes and slows down the vaporizer.

Depending on where you are, regulations can demand that canned butane have mercaptans/odorizing agents to make the gas smell in the event of a leak. Where present IME this is definitely tasted in the vapor.

Of course, butane that doesn't have this mercaptans in other regions like many of us hail from frequently has impurities other than butane. Many of these are not necessarily all that unsafe, others are less so.

I do not want these compounds or their thermal oxidative degradation byproducts in my airpath. Not even in tiny amounts. There are alternatives that eliminate this risk. My philosophy is if it is even possibly bad for you and there is an alternative that doesn't have the same risk, then take the alternative route.

Many of you are not concerned with these minor/trace impurities and odorants. That is your business of course (and for those of you who don't mind this, this is likely to be a great vape!). Still, this is why folks like myself prefer not to use such devices.

Definitely brother, it seems to me like 3d printing as a manufacturing method will open doors to varied models over time and I'm sure you'll be capable of developing other solutions in the future. In the meantime, for this kind of vaporizer and the audience who use them - I believe you have a very strong first entry into the market already! :2c:

I'm spoiled.

I've come to love manual vapes that don't make me heat while toking. Nothing wrong with it. But the relaxed pleasure that comes with the ritual of heating then toking trumps the pipe approach of toking while heating. I am assuming that any vape, including the Noochie, that has flame in the airpath means that you have to toke while heating.

For me, it is just a more pleasurable approach.

Different tokes for different folks.

You know, it might! I will have to actually try it and see how it goes.

If anything, a slice of a tube of silicone might even suffice to hold it on there and it would be a whole lot cheaper, at least until the adapter is ready.

So would the flame point straight down like a Daisy/Brick, or are you having the flame point horizontally across the intake and you just pull it down with your draw?

Just curious bc it seems a bit close to face with the short mouthpiece? Also curious about harshness with short vapor path, but I'm sure flavor is phenomenal with the porcelain!

Finally a ceramic manual convection vape (never got to try a Cera), Can't wait til you can glaze man, that was the best part of pottery... Also I love the name, so fucking adorable

I'm more interested in the printing process than the vape itself personally. Do you use a 3rd party service for the print if I may ask? Is the glazing a separate step performed after the print or is it somehow integral to the process?

A quick look up tells me porcelain has a higher thermal conductivity coeff. than glass (should sink more and get hotter to the touch) How does your vape fare when doing a lengthy back to back session? Does the mouthpiece gets warm?

I wish you success in your enterprise!

Very cool. I love the idea that you could print it out at home, being able to tweak the design to exactly the way you want is even more appealing.

Edit: Well maybe not at home, I'm not sure how many 3d printer can do porcelain. Do any 3d printing services do porcelain?

3d printing is great for prototyping but nass producing any product is usually easier and faster with other methods. Usually the idea is you use 3d printing for prototyping and then if your going to make more than a few you go to quicker manufacturing processes.

Hahaha thanks man, the name I'm particularly proud of. The distance seems close but I feel no heat in even the least amount near my face. I'm glad I found a fellow ceramic lover, I love all aspects of it but glazing is definitely special. No matter how good a piece you made, putting glazing a piece and not knowing what it's going to turn out looking like an waiting for it to be fired and then opening the kiln is like Christmas every single time.


I'm not sure if I can say because I've since hit number one used my mflb native and have never been bothered by harshness. So Noochie doesn't feel harsh to me at all, feels like a nano hit on 6 maybe :lol:.

In order to answer your question better, I did another session with Noochie here when I got home from work and pointed the flame down, like the sticky brick, and it's no doubt a faster and more cloud producing method. Holding it horizontally and moving it back and forth took a little longer to get a nice feeling hit and produced less clouds but was a lot easier to control not letting too much heat in and scorching.

I do use a third party 3D printing company an they only offer to have your pieces glazed afterward. I hear offering bisque ware is at least on their radar so I hope it is only a matter of time. It's just the last step in the admittedly actually pretty labor heavy process so I'm not sure why they couldn't or wouldn't want to offer it easily.

The edge of the sphere gets hot enough to where you can judge if you're going to far with the heat but has never gotten to the point of burning in the slightest. The whole thing cools off really quickly surprisingly actually. Even the very tip where the flame was touching I have no problem grabbing to yank the top off and stir, within 5 or 10 seconds after taking the hit.

3D printing is still very young and look what it can do. It's unbelievable, but it's still the beginning and in 10 or 15 years when they're as common as a photo printer and you can drop your shoes into the recycled material bin and print new ones a half size bigger, it'll be normal for young children.

Look up what they are already envisioning and researching with 4D printed objects. Noochie is just the first of what can now be 3D printed and actually safely used, in vaporizing equipment specifically.

3D printing can have an initial delay or so because of the printing process but there's no reason why bulk isn't possible over time.

Having a bit of a dispute with the company over the sloppiness of the glazing. I feel like it's unacceptable and they apparently feel it is acceptable glazing. For now at least I know that the black and more opaque glazes are not going to work from them and will have to stick with thinner colors like the white, which looked pretty nice.

Besides that, it's hitting so much better. Some slight modifications in making the air path of the stem a bit longer, the herb "chamber" slightly narrower, the mouthpiece raised slightly and of course the groove that holds the o ring does not need anymore help with giving the two bodies a complete seal,when plugging one of the two holes and sucking through the other, and all has helped in more even burning. You definitely have to play with the flame proximity and how long you hold it in front of the air intake before flicking it away and bringing it back to control the temperature but I like process.

Here's a pic of a bowl of course ground, which I could/should have taken farther before I initially stopping to get it darker but oh well, and finely ground from my mflb grinder. The difference is pretty large; with the fine ground I tried taking it as dark as I could without combusting to the point I'd just throw it away and be done with avb since I barely use it anyway. Personally, I'm happy with this result

Final test of the night. Surprisingly well vaped if you ask me. If it looks like coffee grounds it's gotta be donezo! You can see more green flecks in the picture than you can in real life honestly. A fine grind is definitely the way to go with Lil Noochie.

I will have a usage video soon as well!

That looks really good. I don't notice any sloppiness except maybe the glaze around noochie is pretty thick, but I don't know what to look for. I do really like the different color, glossy white porcelain isn't my thing.

I also like that unless you know what a noochie is you wouldn't look twice at it in someones house, at least not to think that's a drug thing. Well, maybe if they smelled it. It looks like any other cool "thing" people have on their dresser or mantle or whatever.

I would really love one that had a 70's candy dish vibe to it, I know that's a little vague though. Like a retro thing my grandma vaped out of. Or what google shows for 70's green color:
