Why do my hands ache after grinding?

For context, I use a Santa Cruz Shredder.

I’ve recently noticed that if I grind some weed, regardless of amount, I’ll have shooting pains in my wrists and hands appear hours later. Is this just due to my inexperience or a lasting thing, because this sucks.

My hands started to ache, so I moved to a 3" Cannabis Hardware grinder and have been happy with it. Better leverage and silicone grip bands.

Do they hurt when doing other similar movements, like opening/unsealing jars?

I've noticed that my wrists become inflamed when I use cannabis or alcohol. This inflammation that follows consumption may be linked to my rare and chronic illness but my doctor can't answer that question. I have tried to assess the benefit/risk and have chosen to stop drinking alcohol and continue vaporising cannabis. If that helps ;)

Old & In the Way
The hand and wrist are very complex, there are lots of things that can go 'wrong'.
I had a year of issues with a thumb and wrist (after a fall). One hand specialist told me it was something I would have to live with, at least until it got a lot worse.
Out of frustration, I saw a different hand surgeon, who tested some stuff and suggested two procedures. They combined to work really well, for my issues. I'm about 85% back, and I'll take it.
I tend to have confidence in our western medicine people when it comes to body mechanics.
Your issue could also be symptomatic of an auto-immune condition.
Or simply over-use? Not of a grinder, but is there something in your day, or job, that might tax your wrists?

Coincidentally, I'd purchsed a grinder just before the accident (a std size SCS, pretty nice) but couln't use it.
A large Brilliant Cut Grinder is far, far easier to use (consider a factory second to keep cost down). Also bought an Old Mate, they are smooth as butter.

I have had hand issues for most of my life. I have XXL hands and the smaller the diameter is of whatever I try to grip, the more painful it is. I have worked with my hands all of my life, so I try to find ways around this. I try to hold things so they are larger, with rubber grips or extra padding or clamps. I also use rubberized gloves that allow me to grip better without holding so tightly.

I couldn’t tell you, I haven’t needed to open a jar lately. I can report there’s some pain when using my xbox controller.

Unfortunately several years ago I was diagnosed with tendonitis through my hands and arms from overuse repetitive strain injury... Tough to say exactly the cause with so many factors, I blame the large modern smartphones with their huge screens and previously poor posture at work before getting an ergonomic setup... Now it is still a constant thing to manage, taking breaks is important, as is proper stretches and massages (way back then I had rounds of occupational therapy), doing those as well and as much as possible will help a lot, but if it is currently in the throes of inflammation you'll also want to do plenty of ice after use, compression gloves can also help especially for driving and playing video games... Finally you should absolutely upgrade to a better grinder, I went from SCS to SLX and then never looked back after upgrading to BCG, a million times better than both of those imo and there is also the new Old Mate grinder that I might like even more (Flower Mill and Lyft Innovations are two other options that are very different from traditional grinders and as a result they are some of the easiest to use, but not necessarily always ofcourse)

Those currently have a 6-8 week lead time, and I’d like to avoid having to use my SCS for that long a period.
Looks like they don't have any factory seconds available right now, but they post full kits there often. No lead time on those. You could always email them to ask.

My second favorite grinder also has a lead long lead time right now due to a big order in their main business: the OMD Aroma3.

For me, these stand apart from the others. For hand problems, I think most people prefer the large BCG over the small.

Lots of good discussion on the grinder thread:

I still think you should see a doctor. I don't think your grinder is the problem.

Unfortunately, my PCP has totally ceased correspondence in all forms and I don’t know how to go about finding a new one.

1) probably not
2) No, and I’ve had this grinder about two months with no problems whatsoever
Eat more "Cottage Cheese" or any other Cheese, don't consume Caffeine before or after eating Cheese. drink plenty of water too if consumed a lot of Calcium/Sodium

Also see a Doctor like Grass Yep said, and maybe exercise more. get the muscles near the Wrist stronger.
