I am all for hearing both sides, for self-questioning, playing devils advocate, etc.
There's one big problem I see that seems to keep getting in the way, it's this "all or nothing" style of thinking.
If you vote for Trump then you automatically get tagged with a million other things... which may or may not be true.
If you support BLM, you automatically get tagged with a million other things... which may or may not be true.
If you express concern about anything to do with covid-19 you are automatically tagged with a million other things...
I am sure you get the idea...
The ideal outcome of this is that people take a step back and consider that we are all super complex creatures with our own internal reasoning, none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes, and that's okay!! We are also all valid and have a right to express our opinion and to live our lives, so long as we are not hurting anyone else.
I keep thinking that the vast majority of us all agree on the big ideas, like we all want to work and earn a decent living in a safe environment without let or hindrance... we would all like an education, we all want good quality healthcare that isn't being used as a pawn by those, who don't even use the public services, for their political games, we all want a cleaner healthier environment to live in, we all want good quality tasty food, etc etc..
We just all seem to be so easily led and deluded that the person wearing a different colour from us is somehow our enemy, when in actual fact we probably have more in common than that which divides us...
We are being played! And every time we 'tag' someone... we are letting the real enemy, the people in power who are abusing everyone for their own personal gains, win!
