Marco Rubio tweets a tribute to John Lewis using the photo of a different black congressman

Like many of his colleagues, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) tweeted a tribute to John Lewis on Saturday and included a photo of himself with the civil rights icon who died Friday. He even made the image his Twitter profile picture.

There was just one problem. The photo was of Rubio and the late congressman Elijah E. Cummings, who died in October.

You can't make this stuff up!!! It has to happen in real life.. What a perfectly hilarious example of modern problems....hard to believe that someone doesn't proofread his tweets before they are released. I guess the desire to be "social" is just too strong.

Kindergarten Cop? Racist.

NW Film Center Has Canceled an Outdoor Screening of “Kindergarten Cop” Following Complaints by a Local Author “It’s true Kindergarten Cop is only a movie. So are Birth of a Nation and Gone With the Wind, but we recognize films like those are not ‘good family fun.’”

National reckoning on overpolicing is a weird time to revive Kindergarten Cop. IRL, we are trying to end the school-to-prison pipeline,” she tweeted. “There’s nothing entertaining about the presence of police in schools, which feeds the ‘school-to-prison’ pipeline in which African American, Latinx and other kids of color are criminalized rather than educated. Five- and 6-year-olds are handcuffed and hauled off to jail routinely in this country. And this criminalizing of children increases dramatically when cops are assigned to work in schools

I love Kindergarten Cop & Gone with the Wind. I've watched both a dozen times. I abhor this so-called political correctness & cancel culture. And I hate the corps & companies, politicians & everyone who kowtows to it. I'm not giving up or hiding my beliefs to appease anyone.

We are heading down a terribly dangerous path.

If mob thought and mob rule decide for all of us what is "appropriate" for us to view and think, this experiment called the USA will be over.

The dystopia's of Orwell, etc. will be our self fulfilled prophesy and it will happen fast.

The long, slow climb back out of that pit may take decades or longer to scratch our way back out...if we ever do.

Nothing would make me happier than to see my thoughts here be completely off-base. (Good chance they are...I hope).

But, we seem to be in a perfect storm right now of extreme social, economic and pandemic stress.

We do though have the opportunity right now of changing many things that are broken or bent out of shape, and making them whole

in a better way than they were.

Or, if we make enough missteps by letting a very vocal minority decide policy, we will bear the terrible fruit of those decisions.

Oh yeah...I love Kindergarten Cop...one of my favorite Arnold movies. Fuck the "butthurt".

Herman Cain Tweets Coronavirus Not That Deadly—Despite Having Died From It

Herman Cain continues to speak from beyond the grave through his Twitter account, with a now-deleted tweet claiming that coronavirus is “not as deadly” as “mainstream media” made it out to be, despite Cain dying from COVID-19 weeks after attending a rally for President Trump—and raising questions about Twitter policies for deceased account holders.

When Botswana Farmers Paint Eyes on Their Cattle’s Butts, Everyone Wins
The unlikely method may reshape an unhealthy relationship between farmers and lions.

DESTINATION GUIDE
Botswana

“EYE SPOTS” ARE AN EVOLUTIONARY feature employed by various species to deter predators. Insects use them to misdirect birds, and some fish feature false pairs to intimidate larger fish, but no animal has ever been known to successfully deploy eye-spots against larger mammalian predators. Today, however, several hundred cattle in northern Botswana with eyes painted on their butts would beg to differ.
The “eye-cows” are the result of a four-year study released earlier this month by an international team of scientists seeking the coexistence of cattle farmers and lions. And while butt-faced cows may seem like a joke, the problems they stand to solve are dead serious.
Before the eye-cows, the relationship between cattle farmers and lions was one that Cameron Radford, field researcher and PhD student at the University of New South Wales, firmly categorized as “not great.” The team’s research took place in the village of Shorobe, on the outskirts of Botswana’s Okavango Delta region, which contains the Moremi Game Reserve—a 1,900-square-mile wildlife sanctuary home to leopards, hyenas, and, most importantly, lions. While the reserve creates jobs and fuels regional tourism, the ambush predators therein threaten the neighboring cattle farmers’ livelihoods.

“A lot of these farmers don’t have the resources to fence their cattles in ranches, so they’ll release them to roam in the bush untended,” says Radford. “For large predators, they’re pretty easy picking.” For the farmers, recourse was scant: A government reimbursement plan for those who lost cattle to the money-making predators only reimbursed about 10 to 20 percent of the cost of a cow, according to Radford.

“The farmers feel kind of disenfranchised by the whole thing,” says Radford. “It’s their livelihood right there. They’re angry, and they’re going to find that lion.” Retaliatory killings by cattle farmers not only devastated an already endangered species—one that plays a crucial role in balancing a fragile ecosystem—but threatened the local economy as well.

A team of researchers led by UNSW’s Dr. Neil Jordan theorized that in the same way that smaller predators can be deterred by eye-spots, attacking lions may similarly feel they’ve lost the element of surprise when cows grow eyes on their butts. Ending the hunt before it began, the team thought, would be a win for man and animal alike.

What started as a trial experiment on one herd in 2015 expanded with Radford’s assistance to cover 14 different herds with more than 2,000 cows. “We chose herds that had previously reported higher depredation rates, so we knew lions were a problem for them already,” says Radford. Of the group, roughly a third were given a pair of furrowed, acrylic-painted eye-spots (“We were going for the intimidation factor,” says Radford), another third were left unmarked, and the remaining third received simple cross-marks. While 15 unmarked cows and four cross-marked cows were killed by predators, not one of the cows with eye-spots over the four-year study became big-cat food. The low-cost method was enough to turn even the most skeptical of Shorobe’s farmers into believers. “At first they thought it was a joke, but when they saw it was working, they were happy to see us coming back,” says Radford.

While the findings speak for themselves, Radford is quick to explain that it may not be a silver bullet. In theory, the lions may eventually habituate to prolonged exposure to eye-spots (as India’s Sundarban tigers grew wise to the jungle’s loggers, who tried to fend off attacks by wearing masks on the back of their heads), but according to Radford, Shorobe’s lions are migratory enough to be fooled for the long run. Dr. Jordan also admits in a statement that it’s “unclear whether painting would still be effective if these proverbial ‘sacrificial lambs’ were not still on the menu.” For the time being, the researchers recommend that farmers reserve the eye-spots for only their most valuable heifers.

While a local NGO hired a “co-existence officer” to ensure the practice persists upon the team’s departure, a swell of online attention has led to unexpected copy-cat trials abroad. “It’s being adopted in India for leopards, in South America for jaguars, and elsewhere in Nepal as well,” says Radford.

It’s all too rare that an outside-the-box solution proves a boon to the economy and the environment in one fell swoop. But wherever cats need food and cows have butts, the eye-cow method may just do the trick.

California, per usual, is burning. With the heat, the burning intensifies. For the most unlucky kid, who, at least, will have the best story, there is a cause.

Gender reveal fireworks.

California fire triggered by ‘gender reveal firework’

Why unlucky? Because officials are talking about charging the parents CRIMINALLY for things like arson if a house were to burn. Even in a state like CA where no one serves all their time, that could be 9 years behind bars. (Per count.) PLUS, all the costs from the Negligence have to be paid.

I wonder how much a 500 man firefighting crew working for weeks with air and logistical support costs?

Kid better be smart, artistic or an athlete because mom and dad will be paying the state for the rest of their lives. (Depending on exact charges, there may be some bankruptcy relief.)

Packed flight ‘delayed after sick prankster AirDrops porn to horrified kids’ phones’ sparking fury from parents

The AirDrop function allows users to quickly and easily share files of all kinds between Apple devices, including photos, videos, contacts and map locations.

The feature uses Bluetooth technology to locate nearby compatible devices like iPhones, iPads, and Apple laptops.
That's been an issue for some months. If they cared, Apple could have fixed the problem by now. Apparently, they don't.

Yet.

It's real easy to remedy, turn Airdrop capability off or set it to "contacts" on your kids phone/device and it can't happen.

The "contacts" must have been the change they made when the issue first came up. My mistake. From the same thing happening again, I thought they hadn't given a fix to the issue.

I believe you've always had the ability to switch from "everyone" to "contacts" or to just shut airdrop off altogether, it's just that the idiots who were all up in arms about it just don't bother to learn the ins and outs of all their features and apps.

Given that by default iPhones have access to every pornographic image or film ever created, maybe the solution is to not give them to younger children in the first place.

How young is too young? I'd say if they're so young that viewing a naughty picture on the device will cause a full flight to be delayed, they're too young to have a device that delivers "boobie" pictures on demand.

Especially given that smartphones are designed from the ground up to hijack and manipulate the human body's dopamine feedback system. We wouldn't give meth to small children after all. Oh wait, we do do that. Nevermind... carry on.

I don't know if it is going to be good or bad, but I know it's going to be different when those raised on cell phones become adults.

Just from a decade plus of the internet on an otherwise old brain, I find my attention span is shorter. I don't know if it is just because I get grumpy easier or because I hardly read any books any more. I used to go through one a week and now...now that I think of it I don't have any going right now. It seems most all my reading is shorter than book length. I read more, but in less depth.

How will the electronic drug in children's hands change them?
