I bought my Volcano Classic a few years ago when an online retailer was having a 50% closing sale . Luckily, I was referred to by a few people from this forum about it and bought the LAST one they had. For $200, I was juiced for it. Now.... it's literally in the corner of my room under a few boxes.
I forgot how much these things actually cost. I feel like it deserves more use but oh well. Just bought a dynavap, hopefully that will be some fun.

So since I got my flowerpot my volcano hasn't been used much at all. I just ordered the chamber reducer and dosing capsules, and I got a wifi smart power strip, so I can leave my volcano set at 6.5 and turn it on from my phone. My enail too. I figure the new toys will bring a new joy to the volcano again so I'll get back on that for a bit.

One of the 2 clips on my solid valve finally broke off after being loose for months.
I'm now wondering if I should take the opportunity to try the easy valve (around $100) or just get a replacement part (around $20) to fix my solid valve.
I initially didn't like the easy valve and remember strongly recommending the solid valve mainly because I like that the chamber is "telescopic" and can adjust to any size you want from tiny to huge. However, I find that as the screens wear out they no longer have enough friction to hold them in place while the pump runs which forces the screen up to the top resulting in a huge chamber even if you only have a small amount which ends up being very inefficient. This means for the solid valve to maintain it's adjustable size chamber, you need to replace the screens far more often than I'd like to.
Because of this and the fact they released a reducer adapter for the easy valve and an adapter so you can replace balloons, I'm now strongly considering switching to the easy valve.
What do you recommend?
How is the maintenance of the easy valve with replaceable balloons compared to the solid valve?

I have the new easy change easy valve bag but only change the bag every 2 or 3 months, maybe more?
The way of reclaiming from the bags that I've settled on is to cut the bag open and cut it into four large strips.
I put the strips onto a low set electric hotplate (glass hob) sticky side up and rub with pure cotton pads.
Vape the cotton in your new bag, or a spare bag! You can blow up to 20 or 30 strong bags of vapor with the cotton from one bag reclaiming.
I think the reduced chamber works for capsules, but not so easy for filling it direct with my style.
But anything you can do with the reduced, you can do almost easier with the large easy valve chamber imo.
At the start I was always trying to hold small amounts down with a pad or custom screen, but eventually I just left it in the chamber floor and it seems to work just as good.
Because of the large chamber size, there's probably less material movement inside than we would think and the duration of the bag fill and airspeed also allow for good extraction without completely covering the bottom screen or anchoring everything down.

To use the reducer without capsules i do the same screen 'nippeling' with fine screen on top like with the plenty:
with the fine screen pressing against the reducer top ring, nothing escapes sideways
Here's (finally) a pic of my screen setup, on the left only a coarse standard screen nippled, on the right is the added fine screen on top, so it seals perfect with the reducer without caps
side notes are
- fine screens alone don't work for nippeling, the standard screens are more stable for that
- the nipple doesn't need a perfect shape, it just needs to be deep enough to go a bit over the rim level
- the fine screen gumps up a bit quicker at the nippled area, but no biggie ime
with the fine screen pressing against the reducer top ring, nothing escapes sideways

Does storz&bickel sell recycled Volcano Classics? I was watching a video on a brand new digit when he pulled it out of a bag from the box. Its been 3 years so I'm not too sure but I think mine didn't come in a bag?

Going back to the volcano after not using it for a while is like the first time all over again
I also put my Volcano Digital in the corner after buying the Dynavap. At first I liked the Dynavap but after a month I noticed the effects were no longer up to par so I went back to the Cano. For medical uses the Volcano is awesome. Dynavap not so much
Also I micro dose and found that I used about 50% more flower when vaping with the Dynavap. I vape on the average .08 gms each session with the Cano and usually vape four sessions daily
Easy valve for solo vaping and micro dose. Solid valve if you have friends over
Starting out with the Cano Digital I had the same issues of using too much weed. Once I bought the easy valve with the capsules and started micro dosing my consumption went down tremendously. Pretty close to 1/2 with the same results. I vape my 1st bag at 370 2nd at 390 3rd at 410 and 3rd bag at 428 degrees. Most times I am toasted by the 3rd bag. I also vape superior flower that is high in myrcene for my insomnia. I also vape 4 or 5 bags nightly. That is using .08 to .09 gms each session. I think if you follow this recipe you would still have your Cano and would be loving it like so many of us

I've had a volcano for over 4 years never had a problem, then noticed the other day that the red heat light started to flicker a little bit occasionally, not consistently.
then today when I turned it on, I noticed that as the switch was in between the off and on position, it sounds like the circuit is making a weird, slight kind of sparking or crackling noise.. the sound is very faint and only really noticeable if you hold the switch in between the off and on position, but you can smell an overheating, not quite a burning, electrical smell from within the unit..
has anybody seen this before? any suggestions? can you send the unit in to storz and bickel for repair, anyone know how much that costs on average? thanks

Usually not the best idea... to hold any electrical switch "between clicks", on a device with discreet position attenuation knobs or on/off positions.
Yes.. I have seen it on other units (but not the Volcano) when owners have experimented or fiddled with knobs in positions that are not in the discreet positions that they were designed to click into.
I have a friend with an electrical Iron (for clothing). He reported that he heard noises, when he carefully balanced the dial between off and on (it has separate heat settings on a rheostat). My question to him was: "why are you experimenting with an electrical device's switch in between the positions?"
His iron like your Volcano has one discreet switch, and one rheostat knob for setting the heat.
Yes try to not be tempted to do this on purpose, lest you fry the switch.

it made the noise when I was just flicking the switch on normally, and after investigating it, I discovered it was happening especially noticeably when the switch was in the middle area. did it once or twice. i'm not holding it in between the switches regularly for shits and giggles.. why would i do that?

I work with a large number of patients that are OCD, and when they find a noise, or anomolie... they continue to duplicate the behavior repeatedly. (They can't help it).
Due to these patients, I almost involuntarily spout out that advise when I hear of things like this.

Sounds like the switch light is gonna die sooner or later, but it will still switch on/off normally just without led indication
The led itself has a 'bathtub curve' for failure either they die quick or at 8-10k hours lifetime Ime that could be a cold solder point at the led, that's repairable in theory but i always break those plastics at disassembly
and end up buying a new one - it's a pretty common and cheap switch, not to hard to replace (there are some posts about that somewhere in the thread past)

I was having trouble with one of my portables. And I thought what the heck is going on, so I go and get out the old volcano crank it up and after about two bags ( I had a tear in the top of the bag so I made it smaller)I remember why I wanted one so bad in the first place. The easy effortless inhale and being able to see the vapor, there is no mistaking that you are getting a good dosage.
Geez you guys are making me really miss the old 'Cano! Mines dead in the closet but I've been missing my bag vapor lately after over a year with the Flowerpot. The FP is great at one hitters, but I gotta say that no vape can really do a full session better than a bag - the way the bag system homogenizes the flavors is really unique, every draw is good! No "ass end" hits! I might have to get it back up and running as the FP really isn't great for chilling out and medicating unless you're sitting at a desk. Miss being able to hand the bag around liker a joint! A billion times better than a doobie!!

My volcano is at the bottom of a closet too. I never warmed to bags of vapor so the only reason I keep it is for group use. I found this vape seems appeal to females, a great vape to have around.

IMO and IME, women tend to have three main concerns in group sessions with unfamiliar equipment:
#1 - is there a risk of me hurting myself?
#2 - is there a risk of me breaking this thing?
#3 - how confident am I that I can pull this off without looking stupid?
The Volcano passes that test with flying colors.
Good thought about moisture left in the bag being an issue. Though to simply inhibit the mold formation just run the bag through the volcano w/out material, i.e. empty chamber. That forced hot air will completely dry out the internal aspects of the bag rendering it mold free.
