I use a torch too, when I was still using a regular lighter I would still get a little combustion once in a while, now that's very, very rare
very first time trying a torch I burned it and avoided it since, untill I was without regular lighters and I only had the torch lighter around, and I never went back to regular lighters
I just point the torch at the hole, but keep the inner blue part of the flame outside the hole, only the lighter blue outer flame goes a bit in
also you have to inhale a lot faster as with a regular flame, and I always move the flame to not get the heat build up in one spot

enjoying my VG now:D(handcarved, walnut)

ps. I have a cheap torch from dealextreme wich works great for only 3 dollar, only downsides are refilling(has to be from exactly the right angle) and the fact when the gastank becomes less filled I have to turn up the flamesize(actual flamesize doesn't increase that much in this case) to keep the flame(otherwise it stutters), also outside with wind I have to turn it up a bit to keep it burning(but that's a lot better then with bic lighters that you sometimes can't get lit even while trying the most lidiculous ways to sheler it from wind, wich is also the reason torch lighters are called stormlighters in dutch, translated ofcourse)

Having read over this Vapor Genie thread I decided to write a little about the new aluminum bat. Over the course of my smoking years I have been a satisfied user of the classic, handcarved, glass, and aluminum bat.

I first purchased a classic before any other models were available. Naturally, like the countless people on this forum, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with vapor genie. I haven't gone back to combustion since. The classic provided an easy to use (after the learning curve) vape that provided good sized hits, with all the convenience one could ask for. Except in the wind, but a torch lighter can help you get around that. When he handcarved came out I couldn't resist. It looked great, and with less exposed metal was much harder to accidentally burn yourself. It seemed like the perfect piece.

My good friend and roommate then purchased a glass genie. I'm not going to spend any time talking about it because this thread has already talked in depth about how awesome this piece is. I will say that i easily get the same sized hits out of the glass vg as I do out of my da buddah. (Love the DB to death though, the convenience can hardly be beat at home.)

Now to the aluminum bat, which seems to be lacking info in this thread. At least the new version seems to be lacking info because most of what I see is complaints about how hot the piece gets. I wasn't surprised because I remember the first time I saw the aluminum bat on the vg website I was very skeptical. I never even considered purchasing it, thinking it would get too hot or not work as well as the other genies. (I mean they work so well already!) Well another friend of mine just purchased one of the new aluminum bats and naturally I had to try it. I sat down and worked at the thing until I had perfected it.

The aluminum bat exceeded my expectations. It took me a few attempts to figure out proper flame placement but when I figured it out... wow. I got an enormous hit, on par with the glass vg and maybe even a little bigger. The taste was excellent, much better than the wood vg, and a negligible difference from the superb taste of the glass vg. The design is awesome in that I don't see a way in which you could accidentally burn the bowl. The hole you place the lighter in is situated so far away from the bud that you would have to really try to combust. Now to address concerns about heat. Yes, the bat does get a little warm but it was never hot enough that I didn't feel like I could comfortably use it. If you give it a stir between hits, maybe chat with your friends a little, sip your coffee, or whatever it stays at just a nice warm level where it is quite comfortable to hold. If you hit it back to back to back with no break then it will get really hot, but there is really no need for that.

ExactlyWrong,
I have personally not found the new heating element on the vaporbat to work better than the old, despite that I apprecaite VG sent the new one out for free. The VG classic worked better in almost every regard, and it wasn't exactly totally tits. A glass vapobowl and a small 18.8mm bong makes a far better if less portable vape imo for roughly the same expense.

So, I just bought myself the Aluminum VG w/ Teak top, last night. I chose the Aluminum model because I wanted a pure bud taste to my hits, not wood-- I also really like idea of using solvents with the entire bottom of the pipe. I chose the extra 4 dollar shipping method (usps priority mail) How long should I be waiting for this bad boy?

well I remember I received mine after the minimum named on the site(I live in the netherlands so it had to travel a pretty long way)
btw, I clean mine(a handcarved) always with a metal rod(I have enough laying around, they come from such an electric flyzapper) and the pipecleaners I ordered with it, lot easier to clean then a combustion pipe(not so sticky and not so smelly)

I plan to replace one of my daily drivers with this guy so I worry about cleaning, knowing it'll take constant use. Hopefully the cleaning turns out to be a simple process. When you clean out your handcarved, do you collect the vapor goo? Also, I see they ship from Virginia and I live in Maryland!

Hey fellow VG users,

Has anyone used the VG ceramic as a heath stone for the VG more oily resin?

momatik,
I've had a classic VG for about two years now and absolutely love it. The first year it was the only piece I would use. All day everyday. Now it's my portable piece. I picked it up for $40 at Whelan's Cigar Store in Berkley. They also threw in a large sized 4 piece Sharpstone for $25. I also got the best, house made, hookah shisha I've ever found! I retired the grinder with 3 broken teeth 6 months ago but the VG is still working like new. It's well worn and is missing paint but still averages 4 full loads a day. I swear I've put close to a pound of high grade through this thing. I can get light easy hits or huge clouds, using a torch or bic. I love this thing.

When I'm going to share the VG I take a minute to explain to everyone how it works and why they don't want to let the flame touch the filter. After that I rarely have a problem. One night 5 of my good friends who smoke rarely sat down in a circle and we emptied my full grinder. The VG did get pretty hot but handled the constant heat without any cooling down time between bowles. We all were in the clouds, with zero issues, after about 30 minutes! That's about as long as it takes for only two people on my Purple Days...

I've also given two VG's as gifts and they are both being frequently used as the recipients primary piece. I still get glowing reports and thanks sporadically.

I think what really hooked me was the ritual of using the VG with a lighter. I have a flame still and that made it very easy for me to transition from bongs/bubbs to this. That's why I chose to give them to my smoking friends instead of building them a PD clone or buying a Da Buddha. I have a Purple Days Pandora which I'm not too satisfied with and Da Buddha which is a heavy hitting champ but when I loose my VG I sure vape a lot less. If you're looking for a portable vape go buy one!

Are you talking about using a normal VG and just putting resin on top of the filter? If that's your idea then I think you'll clog the heating element pretty quick. That's not what it's designed for and I doubt it would be porous enough. Also in my experience you need a red hot ceramic/glass stone for oils. If I don't have something red hot or if I put a glass stone in one of my vapes I'll just wind up with a runny/oily mess...

Ah I see. I saw a video of a heath stone glass piece where a person just put some budder on the heating element and hit it with a torch to vaporize it. Whatever didn't vaporize I would assume would get on the metal bowl of the VG then.

I figured because the resin is fairly high % THC it'd "vaporize" well similarly to high end hashes but I have no experience with any of that stuff.

Also someone in the HeathStone thread said that the VG element is the same thing so I thought it might work.

Thanks for the advice.

Greetings!

I have recently lost something dear to me, namely my beloved vaporbros, whos heating element gave up.
This made scout around for a quick replacement to keep vaping and not having to use my
incredibowl too much.

This is when I got my VG and on my second day, which is today, ive semi mastered it, producing some surpsizing clouds of vapor!

I used to own a MFLB, which i left at a mates a few months back, and i might be so bold as to say that the VG produces a harder hit.

Anyway, awesome!

I have a VaporGenie Handcarved - it is my first vaporizer and I've not smoked nor vaped before. The learning curve is significant, and it seems with the Ital Hemp Wick there is a greater chance of soot due to drippings and whatnot. However, I'm getting the hang of it. The trick is sensing when the vapor is warm enough, I think. However, one problem I'm having is figuring out when the herb is done, based on color and feel - is it "Light brown" or "Dark brown" that is the stopping point?

The use of the VG itself doesn't seem so bad, but without a proper directional flame there is going to be an issue. A pipe/right angle, butane powered, electric is clearly best for your health as well as use. Alas, it will be some time before I can secure one of these. I think most of my trouble come from inexperience with both the herb itself and smoking, much less vaping.

Awesome,

Yeah i just sent in a question on that, for i live in the UK and dont exagtly know how they handle
clients from abroad (and i dont have the shipping address).
But yeah, thanks bro!

@Entrance,
It really depends on you how far you wish to vape your herb. If you just want a light high, with less CBNs then probably only very light brown. If you want the fullrange, then vape all the way to the darkest of brown.
Mind however you dont want your erbs turning black, as thats partial combustion!

I bought a jet lighter (windproof) but its crap, since it dies if held upside down. For the few second i COULD use it it blackened the erb to a alarming degree. I would recommend one thats angled to anyone,

ow dear, so vaked. :peace:

I have a question for the VG bat users. I want to use the I-Tal Hemp Wick when I buy a VG.
Though, I've read that the flame goes into the bat more than the other models.
Will the I-Tal work well with the bat?

The adjustable bowl size, pocket-size, shortened learning curve, and the descriptions of how effective it can be with the right technique all have me leaning toward the bat. Can't wait to get a vaporizer.

You will have to wait. At least earlier today bats were out of stock. By all means get one when available. I love mine and will get the ss bat once available. Do not get the hempwick. The entire concept of getting something you need a lighter to light so you can use the vg strikes me as stupid. Better to get a quality refillable candle flame lighter and quality butane. Torch lighters will not work with the bat.

For what its worth, I don't know about the bat but I exclusively (for the time being) use the Ital for lighting my Handcarved VG. The flame on the Ital can easily grow over an inch long (mostly red/orange not blue, once burning) so I don't think it will be any trouble having a long enough flame for it. This may just be my newness talking but there is a learning curve for the Ital compared to a pipe lighter and you do need to remember to tap the burnt part of the wick away and try to ensure that drippings and ash don't fall into the VG - that is one thing that contributes to soot buildup. Oh, and just for the record ensure that no un-anodized aluminum is in the vapor path, touches your lips etc...

Erbsman - Thanks, would there be a reference picture bychance for what "completely vaped, but not burned" herbs should look like? Since this is for medical use I'd like to get the CBD and other beneficial compounds, but of course not burn. Also, its a little tough to tell about the quantity of herb to use. The one who provided me with it said something about using a tiny pinch (they knew nothing about vaporization, and only combust) in general, but the VG's instructions/card mention loosely filling the bowl near the top. Is it necessary to do this to get enough material to be active/strong, or just barely enough to cover view of the screen on the bottom?

For everyone - Those looking for a new lighter to use with their VG, I found what may be an inexpensive though useful piece. I was originally looking for the out of stock Lotus L11 that VG used to sell, but came across the "Vertigo by Lotus Governor Cigar & Pipe Lighter" on Ebay. Its cheap and has a pipe-style flame. The seller also had Lotus triple-refined butane for sale. I assume Vertigo is the "cheap" Lotus brand, but I still expect the quality to be way above most lighters. It has all the good stuff, right angle candle flame (not torch), piezoelectric quartz ignition etc... and is only around $20, compared to the $50+ that a Lotus L25 or similar costs.

Combustion Fucker
I've had some success using the hemp wick / bee line type stuff with the bat, but i usually go back to the bic for ease of use. I think it's just barely not enough flame maybe. But it's cheap enough to try out.

Hi man, I really wouldnt vape any harder than this color. (that dark spot MIGHT be very slight partial combustion!)

Yeah this pic is one that steiner666 has already posted of his VG, and im sorry for re-linking it, its purely for demonstrative purposes! ( and its a sexy VG! ) :D

PS when it gets like that , stir it and vape till uniform color to get all the goodies!

Hellu people, i've been around and about on this forum but just now created an account to ask one question.

What is best to use if I'd like to sterilize the mouthpiece of my vaporgenie before passing it on?

And yeah I guess i'll just mention the vaporgenie is awesome, the amount shown in the picture over is probably 5 times as much as I put in when I get elevated, but I also just started using, so perhaps it's my tolerance that is so low.

Ooo i thought of something else to ask also

From what I've read, cannabidiol, or CBD, is what creates the body high and works as an anti-psychotic, compared to THC which gives a psychedelic and mental high. Also I read that CBD vaporizes at a higher temperature than THC, and that vaporizers will end up giving you less CBD than when smoking it, but the THC amount is about the same as when smoking. And as probably everyone who's reading this knows, indica contains higher amounts of CBD, while sativas contain higher amounts of THC.
Would purchasing a 100% indica strain not be worth the money if i plan on vaporizing it?
(I'm not particularly wealthy and the price is high)

Thanks people

I've vaped both 100% indicas and 100% sativas, both with great success, but what I find that REALLY works is to mix them 50/50 (a salad). For some odd reason, in my experience, mixing them always ends up being more powerful than either of them vaped separately.
