Vaporbrothers VB2

After reading this for a while, inquiring minds want to know: How long do disks last before change? How much are disks? Difficulty factor in changing disk. Can you clean a disk?
DSC03237.jpg

I use them till the end.
I ride them hard, and they seem to last.
Mine start to get darker over time and get a dull look to them.
I like them at that point for a subtle porosity.
There are other materials that get porous MUCH more slowly. I like them too... for there ability to "keep that bead of oil dancing above surface(Leidenfrost)"
My inserts are done when they crack!
I inspect against a light to see the cracks coming.
For my pictures of the inserts, see: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vaporbrothers-vb2.11225/page-6#post-601681

Wisdom as usual Sir!! My problem was probably my heater was on the verge of failing. Because shortly after it certainly died. I saw that glow too!

Good call, looks like. My most-used one is definitely cracked. Perhaps that is when performance took a nosedive.

That would be Leidenfrost my friend. Venturi is a different principal I believe.

That glow is the moment of death. Its the soul of your VB2's heater rising to heaven . . . :peace:
It was like my dabs were the defibrillator trying to bring it Back to life

Just ordered my VB2 yesterday from Vapor Warehouse. Rachael was kind enough to email and let me know that 2-day Fedex wouldn't get it here by Friday and that USPS priority mail just might. She saved me $12 in shipping and gave me the chance to get my VB2 tomorrow or Saturday instead of having to wait til Monday.

I don't encounter great customer service like that much anymore. If you're on the fence about a VB2, they're 20% off the $699 sale price at Vapor Warehouse right now. For me, $559 is much easier to justify than $699.

Can't wait to dab some of my favorite Grandaddy Purps shatter in the next few days!

My VB2 arrived back at home today. We had a couple dabs of some very clean and tasty locally made shatter called Dark Star (oooh, scary). Then I had to take a nap. :ko:

My VB2 arrived Monday evening but since I had no concentrates on hand, I visited a few dispensaries yesterday to collect some proper testing materials :science:

Armed with 10 grams of fresh shatters, I sat down with my girlfriend for the test. The very first instruction in my VB2 manual clearly states "Use it hard. Outdo yourself."

We took this pointer to heart and dabbed our way through about a gram of shatter. When I woke up 10 hours later, there was a pleasant haze to my rainy morning.

I've never experienced such easy and consistent dabbing. If I was using a hot nail, I would never feel safe dabbing to the level of medicated bliss I reached last night. I'm very glad I made the decision to adopt a VB2 and I look forward to outdoing myself soon!

So im all set to order and was wondering ig anyone had any advice on heat settings for hi,med,lo and or autoshutoff timer ...mi was think either 45 or disable it all together ....after 45 minutes of medicating I can imagine to need more time....except maybe to clean

I've really been enjoying my VB2 for the 10 days I've had it. I've probably run 2-3 grams of high quality shatter though it so far. I've also left it on for a few hours at a time on a number of occasions.

I was dabbing a few days ago and it looked like the disc was glowing a deep orange color which I had never noticed before. Is that the glow of the heater failing? The last day or two, I've noticed that it takes much longer for the residue to burn off after a small dab.

I'm curious whether this just means I need to replace the ceramic disc after every 2-3 grams or whether this is what happens when a heater fails?

Disc could be becoming structurally "thinner" (I see some shaling after long term use, and that alone could potentially allow you to see a bit more glow through the material)
I ride my discs hard... to the ground! They get replaced when they break.

could it be thicker residues from a different product? It has been my experience when a heater is failing the residues occasionally do not burn off completely at all.
Talk to the famous Vapor Brothers about a possible attempt at an at home heat adjustment to determine whether this is a minor adjustment needed or if you are requiring some further support.
Meanwhile, use the unit as you have been, and just for fun, try a new disc.

That sounds like heater failure to me, unfortunately. The VB2 has many lives, but sometimes they are short. I recommend sending an email so you can get the shipping label at the end of the day and get it out to be serviced tomorrow. I have only seen a glow the first time it happened but after that I just had to notice the drop in performance.

Over the weekend I did some testing of the VB2. I pulled out the ceramic disc I'd been using and found it was pretty marked up and seemed to be very thin near the center.

I replaced it with a new disc and the performance improved a lot.

It still seems like I need to heat it up about 40 minutes to get clean burn-offs like I used to get after 10-15 minutes. Definitely working well enough to keep using it now, but I'm wondering if others have noticed a slow decline of performance like this or if heater failures are more catastrophic.

Only my first failure was sudden and catastrophic. Each time since then it was a gradual decline exactly like you're experiencing. It's probably already only performing at the medium temp level. You've probably noticed a decline in the quality of the dabs, i.e.: seems to leave more residue than normal and isn't as smooth? If you haven't then my guess is that you soon will.

Yes, that sounds like what I'm experiencing. How much life have you been able to get out of yours once you start noticing the deterioration in dab quality?

I don't really wait any more. A couple of times I dithered for a day or two, thinking that maybe it really was okay and both times I was wrong. Now I send an email and get it in at the first sign that it doesn't burn off properly.

Mine as well but with the 2.5.

I live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and wanted to avoid these heater failures so I opted for the 2.5 thinking the beefed up heater would be more durable.

I had a switch failure then 2 weeks later after getting it back, I get the dreaded blinking red lights with that glow right before the red blinking lights occur.

I emailed VB to see what my options are due to being in Hawaii...the shipping back and forth is going to cause a larger dent in my wallet.

I've seen a bunch of 2.0 heater failures but not so much with the 2.5 so I inquired in which my email was forwarded to the R&D department.

How many heater failures have you had so far and did VB cover your shipping costs?

Four, so far. VB does cover the costs, yes. It's part of the 2 yr Expanded Warranty. I wouldn't have purchased the unit without it after reading about the problems many people were having. The ceramic heating element is fairly fragile, I've been told. Mine seems to fail at fairly regular intervals. The VB2.5 is more likely to have trouble with the electronics than the heater, I think, but I'm not real familiar with it.

Thank you for the reply...

I'm soo torn since I love this thing. I do understand electronics are never 100% so hopefully I get a reply back soon with my options.

For the few weeks I've had it, my experience have been nothing but epic...other than the issues of course. To the point I bought extras of all the accessories and a pelican case.
