@ChippyMalone It is really heart breaking to read your post, I was so happy that the station was a great help for you and all others liking the station. Because I don`t know what went wrong and what it will take to fix it, I can`t say anything at the moment about when the station is ready again. This is why I have to call back all stations, even most of them would probably work for years without any issues.
I will inform you as soon we get the defective station back and we found out about it.
Meanwhile I will occupy myself doing some custom made vapman, this is my personal therapy to get over this misfortune. I grab that maple wood which is waving at me now.

I will be sending defective unit out today or first thing in am..once again I am very sorry vapman and to all others..I know it was out of my control but it still bothers me and I still run it over and over making sure I followed all directions and everything was on point..

I really like the idea of a tin. If it had a foam insert with cut outs that would be awesome. Maybe even a small herb container built in?

The lid could have a vintage/retro tobacco tin themed vapman logo too.

@subway13029 don't beat yourself up about what happened. You are a part of vapman history now... that's pretty cool.

Don't feel bad @subway13029 ..... Look at it this way - It's much better that the problem has been detected now - sooner rather than later. It would have been much more of a problem to resolve if this fault hadn't revealed itself until a few months down the line.

René is a talented, dedicated guy - he'll resolve the issue, I have no doubt about that.
Until then, butane power it is :)

Have I mentioned how much I love My Little Fella and my Vapman family recently?
Group hug?? :luv:

It has arrived! So, the case I ordered is this one. It's meant for a point and shoot camera. It could be half the height and still fit everything, but I'm pleased with it as is. It will give me a lot more flexibility on lighter size, additional tool-type things, alternative mouthpieces, and herb storage options.

I will probably keep looking for a case that isn't quite as thick, so it's slightly more pocketable, but overall, this will work well to keep everything together. I'll likely be cutting a silicone hot pad to put in the bottom, just to avoid any issues with hot vapman + lining.

I have some alcohol swabs and the loading funnel in the pocket, and pill container for abv ($0.99 at the container store), lighter, and vapman in the bottom. I may remove the elastic from the sides, it makes it annoying to hold open.

For the single-serve herb storage, I weighed out my usual load (0.05g apparently), and followed this (or one of the countless other similar tutorials) to make a sealed blister pack out of a drinking straw. I'll need to use my pocket knife to open it (I may pick up some small folding scissors, since I have plenty of space in the case), but it definitely won't pop open or spill in the case, and it'll make loading really easy. Current plan is to use different colored straws for different strains, or to write on the white ones.

Vapman for scale, and they're sitting on top of the new case.

Ok, so how on earth do you guys keep your bowls so clean? I literally cannot get my crucible to look clean and gold again due to accumulated resins (leading to a black coating with some parts where the metal underneath is visible). It will not come up clean using isopropyl and cotton buds and I am hesitant to apply more extreme heat than what I would when vaping.

I had predominately used the vapman station until yesterday morning and have noticed I am getting flakes everywhere on my hands of something super shiny.

Has the gold plating on my bowl eroded already? Are these the flakes of shiney stuff on my hands after use or is it possible that it could be the micah perhaps?

I have really not applied extreme heat, have never gotten a burning flavour from the bubble I've been using and I am a low temp enthusiast so inordinately high temps are not something I ever go for.

I generally used the station from 3-6 on the dial and since moving to the torch at 1cm I have never torched longer than 4 seconds at a time with 4-5 seconds in between each torch heating.

I mainly just wanna know what could be flaking off my vapman within 5 days or so of receiving it given that it hasn't been overheated (predominately used with the station and as I say, I am not at all heavy on the torching).

EDIT:

I just noticed that the inlet tubes on the bottom of the vapman which connected to the vapman heater have silver discoloration around the part of the tubes that rested on the vapman station heater. I wonder if this missing gold colored coating is the source of my sparkley flakes? In any case, is this normal? I don't remember reading about anyone having had this happen with their vapman!

I have only used flower/herb so far, but concentrate screens are on their way. The strain I predominantly use seems to be not particularly resin-y, at least at the (fairly low) temperatures I'm using. The strain my partner prefers has a lot more resin in it (came out in a weird dome the other morning after sitting for a few hours, pictures below). I find myself using an alcohol swab on the filter and bowl after about two bowls of the latter strain. This has so far kept anything from getting baked on.

*edited to add: I think the shiny flaking off is probably the mica. Based on past posts in this thread, it can definitely come off, and probably from any edges scraping/tapping on the heating station.

Well it certainly could be the heat shield. if the HS has scrapped a bit at the Mica on your Vapman then you will find that it will flake off for a little while after.

In my experience however, this only lasts for a short period of time after the initial damage. The Mica soon smooths, the flaking tales off & I forget all about it . . .

I was annoyed at first that I had damaged my precious Vman, but a few bursts with the torch soon put my mind at rest :smug:

I definitely haven't noticed anything flaking off around the air inlet tubes but I don't have a HS.

Anyway, I understand that you are concerned but either way, I don't think it's anything to worry too much about.

Looking at it I saw a flake coming off the mica so I think this might be what is flaking. I'll speak with @vapman about the inlet discoloration and see what he thinks. :)

Dollars to doughnuts you've got the flaking of mica I reported about two weeks back:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vapman.94/page-143#post-789634

A couple of photos there show the flakes and where they come from.

It only took a short time for me notice it since I felt it 'hang up'. Some discussion happened after that you might want to review?

Interesting, my vapman appears to have had this mica flaking, but also there is definite discoloration and noticable silver bands on the inlet tubes (where they sat on the station) which your vapman did not get. There is also blackened parts around the insides of the mica around where the bowl sits it seems like this part has been overheated somehow. I am at a loss to how though!

Remember that the vapman is repeatedly being subjected to strong heat and will show some signs of wear.

The Basics get charred around the crucible and the Classic's Mica will show some wear as well.

The bowl will also show signs of use and no matter how well you clean it, it will show its age after a while.

These torches get really hot, no matter how gentle you are and the vapman is made of natural materials like wood, copper and Mica (a stone-like material).

The mica is made of compressed bits/flakes of mineral (silica) into a thin, flat and flexible material that resembles cardboard and can be cut with an exacto or scissors - It is not hard as a rock. Which is why it can be shaped around the inside of the wooden body's bowl.

Because of this, flakes can come off, but the mineral is inert and 100% safe. It's inside your toaster at home. It's a silicate that is present in the air we breathe into our lungs every day.

These signs if wear are all cosmetic though and nothing to worry about.

There are two camps on bowl beauty on this thread - those who try to keep their bowl golden clean and those who embrace the "bits that choose to live on the crucible" as master @steama would say.

I always recommend to clean the bowl with tissue right at session's end. If you do this with herb, it'll keep your crucible cleaner, longer. If you leave stuff in there until it cools down, stuff will stick hard.

When you use it with herbs alone, you can keep it much cleaner than when using concentrates. Many people have one vapman for herb and another for concentrates. Just ask @NorVape.

I would much rather chose to use a vaporizer with natural materials than the plastic ones though. God knows where those plastics from China have been.

Maybe some people can post their pictures so you can see what your older, and battle scarred vapman will soon look like.

I won't post pics of mine because, curiously enough, I cleaned mine last night. Oiled and polished them too. Mine are all charred basics, which won't show you the aged Mica either...

So now they look unfairly new. Steama says I'm am way too OCD'ish - Haha.

Hope this helps.

Peace

My crucible is also fairly darkened .. not to the extent of the above picture. I wipe mine after every bowl, and occasionally swab with iso but to no avail. Not too keen on using a magic eraser thingy .. im not sure we have the same product in the uk? Can someone post a link to one they've used and know is safe and effective? Thanks

Also my middle section is completely oozing reclaim .. like a picture posted way back .. i think maybe by steama. Anyone else have lots of oil oozing down the sides of their vm?

Magic Erasers always leave a film on everything I use them on so I quit using them. Not that I makes it bad but just something I have observed.

An ISO wipe followed by a 'dry run' is the general plan . . .

Haha, thanks for sharing your "dirty laundry" with us!

Maybe you can post an "after" pic when you're done erasing it?

I really like that background mosaic too. Is that a table?

Hee hee yep it felt a little odd to publicly air my filth! Especially as I actually really love all of my things to be super CLEEEEEEEAN! :freak: But my Vapman is as happy as a hog in mud.

I was planning to post a pic again after a little TLC . . .

Oh, & thanks - it's a set of drinks coasters by the way :)

But I like it!
Hey guys - I was just this minute using VM during brekkie surfing, and my lighter started acting odd - it lights, stays lit for a second, and then just goes out. I tried it a few times with no changes. it's 1/2 full of fuel, and was working right before and heating admirably. I have another that the reseller threw in, but history says I should get between 5 and 10 uses out of it before it cacks. Any lighter repair techs in the thread?
