Well, I sulked all weekend knowing that my heating station was sitting in a post office storage locker just a few miles from my home while other people with better karma received their's on Saturday. But it arrived today, and my initial impressions are very positive.
In a former life, almost 20 years before becoming a MMJ patient, I was an analytical chemist in the quality control department of a pharmaceutical company. So when I moved to Washington state and had access to medical grade cannabis that had gone through much of the same quality control testing that was once my trade, I really was excited to be able to administer measured doses of specific cannabinoids and prepare flower blends with particular THC:CBD ratios. This previously unknowable essential information was suddenly available to me.
However, it was not enough for me to know the cannabinoid profile of the cannabis, as much of our research in my pharma industry days had to do with two concepts: controlled release systems for existing drugs, and synergistic combinations of drugs with other molecules that increase their potency or alter their effects. In short, I wanted to find better ways to control the release of the cannabinoids from the material being vaped, as well as try to begin to understand the synergistic effects of terpenes and other cannabinoids on the medicinal effect of whatever flowers or concentrates I am using at the time.
In short, the missing link to my ideal vaping setup was a device that could take a metered dose of lab tested cannabis and dispense the active molecules in a consistent, repeateable, and controlled manner. I came very close to this with my E-Nano, and that device will continue to be my go-to device for use with water tools, but I have to say that the Vapman Station meets my desire for a device that will function the same way every time, allowing me to dial in the ideal medicinal effect.
While I like to think that my torch technique is consistent and effective, I now realize that I am probably heating with the torch too fast and too long much of the time, as the first couple hits from the Vapman Station have a clean terpene flavor that I suspect is lost during my initial over-heating with the torch. So I've learned that I should try to go easier on it when using it as a portable.
Tonight, I will set the station up by my bedside with two Vapmans (Vapmen?) loaded and ready. When I wake up in the night and need to medicate, I should be able to reach over and turn the switch, wait a couple of minutes for the device to warm up, and then vape away without ever having to get up or even lift my head off the pillow if I don't want to. I think my wife might like this device the best, as she will not be subjected to the clicking sound of a torch lighter or the racket I have to make using any other device that requires me to turn on some light to see. I'm curious as to whether or not I will be able to sense the color and the blinking of the LED through closed eyelids (yes, I am that lazy!).
All in all, the Vapman Station has met or exceeded my every expectation for this device, and I am looking forward to developing a long term relationship with my little blue can. If our early experiences lead to any modifications for future production, I cannot imagine any changes being anything but very minor. Also wanted to report that both my used basic and my mica shielded devices fit into the device easily, with no noticeable difference in the ease of insertion. I was prepared to trim the mica, as mine shows some flaking and bulging in spots from use, but that hasn't been necessary.
