@NorVape I've been wanting to try some oil with the reheating but have been too busy to give my Vapman the attention it deserves.

@OF Every drop of water is precious down here. I know people who only take 2 minute showers. I think it's the heat that makes the beer taste so good. It was 40°C on Saturday and Sunday!

@vapman I'm interested in a heating station. I look forward to seeing the update. How much will it cost?

The heating station is coming, I am positive that we should have the first ones ready by next month. Everything we can do ourself we manufacture here at our workshop, this are mainly the wooden parts and some small stuff like the photoconductive plexy, for instance. As soon we get the missing components from our subcontractors we can start the assembling. Making a prototype and doing a first series are two complete different ball games. Prototyping is exciting and can be fun where the production is a very dry matter concerning mainly questions of prices and costs.
Talking about costs, the heating station wil be around USD 150.--, it is not possible to make it for less as I intended to do first. For me, quality comes first and the price is just the result and not the goal.
At this occasion I want to point out, that we will not sell heating stations for USD 150.-- and then lower the price soon after, this price will be up there for a long time, this price is real and not a marketing gimmick!

My VM has arrived! :)

OMFG it IS incredibly LITTLE! and clever. and beautiful! and it works amazing!!!!!!! I've done flowers and some shatter (I gots the screens....) and it's PERFECT!

except for the torch. Hubby couldn't get it to work, and it flamed all over a couple of times. well, life sucks cuz there's a vacuum in space... so, I have this tiny little AMAZING vape!

testing will continue....

This is a good occasion to lose some words over the jet-flame lighters.
When we were looking for a suitable lighter for vapman, we bought all sorts of lighters directly from the manufacturers, most of them are in Taiwan, Malaysia and China.
We bought lighters in all price ranges from 2 Dollars up to 300 Dollars and I took them apart to find out why there is such a difference in prices. I came to the conclusion that it is not really worth paying a lot of money, the price difference is mainly just aesthetics and marketing strategies. Beside the housings there are more or less the same components to be found on the inside. Of course a lighter for 300 Dollars got higher quality parts but never in the extent of the huge price difference.
Now, the point is that most lighters fail one day because of the piezzo, this is the component making the spark. The technology of piezzos is based on the physical characteristics of crystals, generating an electrical tension when putting under pressure by hitting it with a small hammer like it happens when igniting the gas. The point is, that piezzos (crystals) have a lifespan, regardless the price, meaning that the piezzo of a very expensive lighter will not last for more clicks than the one on a cheap lighter.
Prices don`t change physical laws!
Therefore, the piezzo is very often the weakest link in the chain of such lighters and because piezzos can`t be replaced (which would be a good thing) it doesn`t really help to buy the very expensive lighters, unless you got too much money or you really like the housing and the design.
That being said, it is obvious that the lifspan of such lighters can be extended by not igniting the lighter too often. This is why I recommend to everybody to keep the flame on when heating vapman in short intervals instead of turning it on and off all the time. So far I had several lighters dieing on me because the piezzo failed. Because my daily use is quite regular I was able to do an approximate calculation of how many ignitions I got out of these piezzos, the result is around 15`000 times.
Ther are more things to be said about lighters but this post is getting ridiculous long now.

You know, looking at those photos, I don't think any sort of burr can be at fault. A burr would, I think, attack the pin radially as the cap is screwed down. This looks more like polishing off the tip, complete with rounding, like a file or sandpaper might? My take is it came from a very large number of 'scrapes' inserting the pin tip into the hole. Like a one tooth file taking hundreds and hundreds of passes. I think most avoid this by putting very little pressure and 'feeling' for the hole by nature?

Perhaps a slight chamfer (or better still a radius) on the hole mouth could go a long way to eliminating the possibility?

OF

When I said sharp edges, I didn`t think of burrs, I actually meant sharp corners from the punching out process. These sharp corners and edges can affect the copper pin like a one tooth file, as you said.
In the future we will leave the filters for a longer period of time in the tumbler of the vibratory finishing machines, this will make the sharp edges "rounder" in a microscopic sense and prevent the filter from eroding the pin.

Thank you,

vapman

I could get at the time, its a small tank however you can replace the piezo from a standard lighter(free),it doesn't need a cap is adjustable and its quite quiet IMO and cheep.I'm yet to compare to yours but...

I was wondering weather this below will work with vapman anybody ?.

After seeing the effect of friction (while opening et closing vapman) I decided to put it in the egg when finished using it without turning the middle section onto the bowl portion as when in use, free to rattle inside the egg (just a little)..

@vapman do you think this will reduce the copper pin consumption or increase it due to rattling?
On another hand, would be possible in future to order spare golden bowls?

Thank you

Would love to see a vid of this in action @steama :)
Hey @Ed's TnT,

I was giving your new mouthpiece some thought and I wanted to point something out just in case.

Like I said before, Vapman's standard mouthpiece is tapered (thinner at the tip that does into the wooden middle section). If that hole gets wider from use, the mouthpiece will still fit by just going deeper into the hole.

It looks like your new mouthpiece has a wider top so it won't let it go in deeper because the wider mouthpiece will stop it.

I don't know how much of an issue this is in your design's workability. I'm just pointing it out just in case.

It looks Very nice and I can't wait to see it evolve.

Thanks for your awesome work on this!

Flameless Gas Torch

This is a very interesting question, thank you @simpleasthcis!
I never thought of using a heat gun on vapman. Unfortunately I just noticed that the tank on my heat gun is leaking, I have to get a new one before I can do a test myself. This is annoying, I really want to check this out. In case it would work, it would be a great alternative to the jet-flame as it is not as hot and more silent. If anyone wants to test it, I would appreciate to hear about the result, I am really curious about this. Which one is the "I am curious smily"?;)

@Andreaerdna You don`t need to this at all, the filter doesn`t erode the pin when it is sitting on the bowl, it is the rough and forceful handling while putting the top on to the bowl that causes the erosion! This picture is an example of heavy and rough handling, it has nothing to do with normal and every day use what so ever. In fact, I haven`t seen such case before where the pin gets "filed" off so much in only one and a half years. It takes a lot of force and "filing" to achieve such erosion, with normal use your vapman will not look like this in ten years time. You know, you can wear off a new pair of jeans in a few minutes when sliding on your bottom over a rough surface, it doesn`t mean the jeans are bad quality, it means you are treating these in a unreasonable way. Don`t worry, forget about these pictures and enjoy your vapman, it will last you for ever.:)

Hello and thanks for your input! I am going to be in the shop the next few days perfecting the design some what as far as where it inserts in the lower wood piece. I may have to make the draw hole a little smaller in order to thicken the walls of where it slides into the lower wood piece. Wont be too hard to do but am sure it will affect the draw a little. Hang in there with me, I hope to have something for you all to look at first of the week!

@M0J0 from using this @Ed's TnT mouthpiece I found that it is not very tight until the very end when it seats and still there is about a 1/16" of a gap that you could force it further maybe but why? I think Ed's design may actually put less stress on the mouthpiece insertion hole.

Another thing about the mouthpiece I do not find it necessary to remove mine very frequently. Also, there is a little trick that removes Ed's mouthpiece very easy. Just insert a dime in the space between the mouthpiece and the middle section and it comes out with zero effort.

I would call Ed's mouthpiece an engineered mouthpiece. :peace:
Cool. I'm going by a 3-D image in my head of Ed's mouthpiece which I then compare to Vapman's, so it may be a moot point.

I didn't want to let Ed know, just in case.

After 48 hours with my VM, I must say, I'm impressed. This thing is amazing, I don't even feel the need to elaborate on the level of craftsmanship, as it's all been said. Started off a little slow, but I quickly got a nice little technique going. Pretty good couple of days overall.

Volute of Vapor
My Vapman was arrived at home yesterday, I haven't got any problem to get vapor from this tiny vape!

I'm not impressed with flowers (especially about taste) but it's awesome with concentrates even if I don't get the vapman concentrates screens, I put a fine screen around the pin and it acts as a sponge for shatter and for bubble I made a hole in a screen to fit the bowl.

I'm very happy cause I would to use mine for concentrates but I'm working to get the best from my flowers too!

I find that honing my technique with the VM makes for a very relaxing session... I just keep at it, until I get it right...

It combines, for me, so far, the best of vaporizing with meditation. The focus required, the mindfulness, the counting of seconds while heating, the focus on the breath as inhalation, hold, exhalation, all just bring the anti-anxiety & stress relief effects to the fore sooner.

May all beings be happy.

That is the essence of the vapman...you also find that you get medicated faster with less!!

Thanks for the info!

I was very shocked to see that center nipple which used to be a pin, because as you all know by now, my original Vapman is at least 1.5 years old and the center pin looks fine. (I've posted many pics here).

In fact, I sent it to laser engrave recently, which I would not have done if I thought it didn't have a lot of live left in it.

I think this video says it well when it says that the Vapman is a precision instrument, like an expensive Race Bike. They are fast and tough but you still have to treat with with care and maintain them by cleaning and oiling them. If you just ride it and not maintain it, or drop it on the street at the end of each ride, it won't give you good service for long.

I'm not saying that Vapman was abused. I am saying that when you treat it a bit more carefully, like by cleaning the bowl right after each session, keep it clean, not forcing the mouthpiece, etc. It will give you better service for a longer period of time.

The Vapman is deceptive in many ways.

People think less of it because it's a wooden, jet-powered vape that seems simple.

It is simple, but there was a lot of experimentation, time and thought behind it to get to where it is now. (I'm going by what René has told us about the process of creating it).

It also looks like you can just throw it around and no harm would come to it, but this is not true.

Think of it as an expensive race bike and treat it that way, and it will last you many, many years.

Maybe the fact that the Vapman is very moderately priced compared to the electronic bells-and-whistles type of vapes is also deceptive and makes people think it's cheap. If you watch the making video you'll see all that goes into making one of these Functional Art Pieces...

Sorry for the long post. I was going to make it shorter, but I didn't have time.

OK, I wanted to show what an old 1.5+ year old Vapman can look like.

This is my first Vapman - the one I recently got Laser Engraved. I sanded the inside of the bowl because I combusted a couple of times and I had not learned to clean my bowl right after each session (while still warm)... It's not golden anymore, but it still looks clean and I can always sand it again if it got bad.

The picture below shows a comparison of my old Vapman with a new (never been used) one - side by side. You will notice that, although there is quite a difference between the inside of the bowls, there is almost no difference between the two center pins -- which is why that sanded-down nub was so shocking to me.

@Enchantre, as I've said it before... Probably the thing that I like most, and what keeps others going back to the Vapman, is the Ritual. I used to smoke pipes before, so I really appreciate the ritual of using the Vapman. No other Vape has given me this.

Peace. :peace:

Impressive but count me out my friend. I enjoy my Vapman because I don't sweat this sort of thing. When I have black that is stuck to the gold and does not easily wipe away with a q-tip — well I guess that black spot just found a home. Cleaning like that is not enjoyment imo.

Still it is cool to see what OCD can do for a Vapman. :lmao:Mean that in a kidding sorta way.

But it's not really like that. I'm definitely not a clean freak -- just ask my wife - this is her::rant:

On my new Vapman, I have never had to do any deep cleaning. I just wipe it off with a tissue at session end and it has kept looking like new. I never have anything stuck to that one at all.

No effort, really.
