Vapman

It's been a couple of weeks with the Vapman and it just keeps getting better!

After the first weekend of experimentation I thought that the technique was mastered and was pretty impressed already. But now? Ha, this little beast hits as hard as anything I've ever combusted in the dirty past with less herb and superb conduction vapor taste! Chapéu!

It definitely has found a place in my rotation and honestly, even if the best electronic vaporizer on the market got 10x better and 10x cheaper, the vapman would still be among the my top vapes because it provides such a unique experience. Although, I've personally quit combustion as the main driver about a year ago with my first vape, the PAX (and others followed due to my enthusiasm for vaporization of herbs), it is not until I found this gem that I can say that I'll never feel the urge for a jay or spliff again just because of the ritual that was involved.

Merci velmol för di genial Erfindig, René!

Can't wait for that docking station to heat up, looks so convenient!

I setup my Vapman just like @kahilhc did  I used pieces from my MFLB WPA.. It's so much better than jamming the top of the Vapman down in the joint

Seems to me you could also use one of these guys:
http://www.pipesdaddy.com/18mm-Vaporizer-Bubbler-Knob-p/as-0035.htm

I haven't tried it, but it seems nearly ideal from a couple of POVs? All glass, you can hold and hit it in the normal orientation and it costs six bucks.......

That would actually be really cool if it fit the stem hole  For my setup it would make heating it while hitting it an easy thing to do consistently.. As it is now I don't try that because I'm looking at the pan from a weird angle while its in the bubbler..

I think I'd rather have a bit of 'give'. When I tried it for fit I used a short (maybe 3/4 inch) piece of tube so I could use the normal MP (which taper fits into the wood). You could drill it out if you were serious I guess, replacement upper pieces are available.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't heat it in place.

I will say as far as attaching my Vapman to a water device, I far appreciate a smaller bubbler over a water pipe or tube. If you guys haven't seen it, I'd check out the Magic-Flight Orbiter on their website. Just about perfect for the Vapman, and what do you know Magic-Flight endorses Vapman and sell them there on their site for anyone looking for alternative outlets for buying. They are also one heck of a company. Also, has anyone messed with treating your wood with natural oils? I feel like the Vapman is too beautiful to treat with traditional stains (I have the mica version). I used some walnuts, just rubbed them against extracting their natural oil, to treat the wood on my Vapman and give it that deep glossy glow like it first came out of the egg.

I could drill it out, but I'm not serious about it :D.. but I could see it being interesting using a gong w/ a 90 degree bend that held it like that.. Interesting for my specific setup at least...

I get it.

I'd like a bit of flex I think, the idea of tweaking the wood (both where the stem enters and where the cross pins are?), but it would also be kinda cool as a compact fixed little piece as you suggest.

One of the cool parts about the VM is you can get bits so tying something like this is both cheap and doesn't really risk you VM. Powerful little device, for no electricity or moving parts......

Thanks @hoyo77 That was definitely my first spot to check straight at the source, just wasn't sure if it would be the cheapest and most efficient way giving that its has to travel over seas and through customs.

Maybe u can give share ur opinion on the amount used in a hammer stem compared to the vapman?
I forgot i am also using a custom stem with my hammer so it holds a lot more. the regular stems that come with the hammer hold about the same as a vapman maybe a little less. I use both regularly, i never go a day without using my vapman, i cannot say that for the hammer. But i do use it and i travel with both vapes.

All i want for my vapman is a longer stem.....around 6 inches.

That's all you want? You're talking about a longer MP? You in the US?

PM me your address, if I can find the piece of tube I used for the 4/20 celebration MFLB mouthpieces, I'll whomp you off a piece or two and set your chickens free.....

Six inches? We can do that.

On the subject of mouthpieces, which do you guys prefer, plastic, wood, or glass/acrylic? I personally love the wood taste but haven't gone all out to get the wood stem yet, is it worth the change? I yearn for Vapman to go all out with accessories like the MFLB did. I loved my MF but the Vapman just won my heart, but I'm also a sucker for cool accessories. As for cleaning the middle piece discussed earlier, I opted for MEK (methyl ethyl keytone), similar to acetone but a little stronger. One thing I will advise about regarding submerging the wood in any cleaner that's lipid soluble, it is going to strip a little of the woods oils, in Vapman's case linseed oil, nothing that rubbing a walnut on can't fix, just be aware you may have to re-oil the wood if you need to clean it. Sorry for all the rambling, just trying to get the info from my experience out there.

sorry for the double post mods. In case you just want to try out a longer stem I'm fairly sure a skinny straw (most convenience stores have the diameter) will fit near perfect in the Vapman for you to get an idea of exactly how long you really want. Cheap way to experiment with what you are comfortable with.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone is a pretty scary solvent to be using for cleaning an inhalation device like a vaporizer,There are plenty of documents highlighting the damage even fumes from the stuff alone can cause to the respiratory system.

I use it on occasion for work activity but under strict controls gloves eye protection etc.

Its recommended as a cleaner for plastic solvent weld pipe work installation.its nasty stuff.

I wouldn't be using or recommending as a cleaner for porous vaporiser parts.even when rinsed well afterwards.:2c:

EPA report on MEK :uhoh:

Good news I've recieved my walnut magic flight finishing grinder.its tiny.It grinds to almost flour consistency.im sure it will work well with the Vapman.
daisy has literally punched her way into my line up.but there is still room for Vapmans smoky merits every day.

I'm putting my freshly ground material into a glass lidded test tube, similar size as a dube tube. and it's excellent for filling the vapman without the funnel tube.

I think Rene got the mouthpiece perfect.the ridge I find comfortable & tactile during a session.

I too found having a tube type container for my herbs makes loading so simple, no need for the loading ring when on the go makes it easy peasy.

I also agree that Rene's mouthpiece design had a lot of thought behind it, It seems to allow for the perfect embouchure to get the smoothest vaping experience with the vapman right out of the Egg. Even when using the concentrate screens with wax I don't go into those gasping coughing fits that kill me with other vaporizers even when I use water filtration with 'em. I think it's easy to overlook just how important something as seemingly simple as a proper mouthpiece design(along with those little holes in the middle section that mix fresh air with the vapor) can be to change the game.

I still just prefer the black plastic mouthpiece myself, I had bought both a plum and ebony and have given both away already.

For my own personal use - it's wood every time. I prefer the way it feels and I like the hint of woodiness in the vapour. I particularly love my ebony stems. For use with friends - the plastic - as I feel that's a more hygienic way to share.

OMG - I'm loving Vapman's little brother! It's absolutely perfect for off the beaten track. I love how environmentally friendly it is too.

It looks as though Vapman are steaming ahead with the heating station too. This update was posted on FB earlier today....

VAPMAN NEVER STOPS!

Our next project is an electric heating station for vapman, the photo shows a prototype. We are now working on the first series, it will be out early next year. Stay tuned!

We wish you all a nice day!

Be cautious and use oil very sparingly on your Vapman. I believe Vapman uses special drying linseed oil because other oils remain wet inside the wood and do not dry out. When you use an 'overly oiled' Vapman the middle section or filter assembly gets hot and will sweat out any excess oil onto the surface of the wood. Depending on how much oil you used the oil may also seep down the sides and into the metal filter plate where it may smoke and burn when heated.

My personal policy is to never oil the filter assembly. From my experience, it doesn't take very much oil to fuck it up.

Also, the only solvent I would ever use is the solvent recommended by Vapman. That solvent is acetone NOT methyl ethyl ketone (MEK).
I agree with you on the Mac. I've used it and once I got a very bad "high" from the fumes even though I was wearing a very good mask at the time.

On my charred basic, I've been using this food grade wax from Home Depot - for lack of any good linseed oil.

o796xy.jpg

I apply it only to the outside of the base and a little bit on the middle section, which I rub off well. I've seen very little sweat in the middle section and when I have, it's been only on the first session - nothing after that. Just wiped some beads off with my finger. It wasn't enough to drop down onto the bowl.

I like the fact that it's 100% food grade (you can eat the stuff), it's cheap, easily accessible and easy to apply.

I suggest acetone for cleaning the middle part as well.

On another note, has anyone ever used other herbs in the Vapman?

I've used eucalyptus for my wife's asthma attacks. It worked better than her pharmacy meds with Zero side effects. I've also vape Dame and which has a nice flavor and relaxing effect. It's a major ingredient in many legal buds.

Didn't Vapman mention that he'd consider producing those muscle powered vapes again, since people seem much more opened minded about vaping these days? Something like that  :ko: I really hope so.. I'd have to have one for sure!

And that heating station looks so legit!! I can't wait for that one! Really nice!
Edit: I love those hand drawn blueprints BTW! I haven't seen that in a long time

Ok, a bit of a whine after more Vapman/wax experience.

1. The wooden part of the stem that the filter mounts to is getting discolored. Not a big deal, just a bit of an annoyance (so far).
2. Last night, the wax began escaping and dripping down onto the mica. Unlike my process with flower, I have been very careful to only heat the bowl with the Vapman vertical (for flower, I often turn it sideways to heat). I also don't load more than a few grains of rice worth (in terms of size). Is there a best practice for de-waxing the mica?

The only negative thing i can say about a heating station for the vapman is well it may force me to buy at least one more vapman so i can keep them on rotation on the heating station. Firing one up while another is waiting on the station for its place in the rotation...WELL done @vapman WELL done INDEED!!!!

are you talking about concentrates seeping into the mica or the wax you are using on the vapman itself??
