I guess I too see the egg as elegant, really. Odd number of flutes, potentially hot parts of the 'just used' vape prevented from hitting plastic, airtight seal, excellent material.
It is, like everything else, a compromise. Not everyone carries theirs, for most owners it's a 'just fine' solution where most vape makers provide no case at all or if they do it's generally some cheap cloth thing that doesn't get used.
We've discussed the rattle a couple of times, a piece of cotton cloth is 'the fix' I favor. But if you're going to be carrying more than just once in a while, the egg is a poor idea IMO. Assembled the unit is just too bulky to fit most pockets well? Disassembly makes it much more compact and gives you room to also carry accessories and stash. Like this camera case:
Inside, the VM, lighter and a container of herb are carried in the main body:
In the top is:
The loading tool, a gram of concentrate, concentrate screens and some toothpicks for loading are in the net in the top. All in a case 1 1/3 inch thick, not the over two inches like the egg. Silent and much more 'pocket friendly' don't you think? And no big lump in your pocket.......

The mica sheets come with marking on them for a reason. Normal industry practice is to mount such things so the identifying marks can be verified. I'm not even sure if the sheeting is marked on both sides. The material I used years back wasn't, but if you put a heat shield in 'backwards' inspection was sure to send it back for rework. Mounted this way is what I expect? And has been just said, you can get a unit without it (and cheaper that way too). It's a personal thing, I like my classic more than the basic.
Compromises. Tough to please everyone for sure. Lucky for us we have so many options to pick from, and ways to customize things a bit to suit us individually?
Regards to all.
