Vapman

OK now I want one of those lighters just to know what smell you guys are talking about! But the Vapman torch is working fine and the station is in daily use. I should get a backup torch BEFORE I need one tho...

It's the kind of smell that makes two things obvious:

1. The Chinese don't care how toxic the materials are that they use to manufacture products from; and

2. Plastic is made from petroleum products.

Too bad the Chinese haven't caught onto making biodegradable plastic from hemp. I bet hemp plastic doesn't smell bad at all.

My mistake was that I shoved the foot on that lighter so far and tightly that it wouldn't come off anymore. I wanted it to stand up, rather than falling over all the time. I should've just tossed it out instead.

Simple as three screws and
a bit of sanding :)
This is great!

It means that anyone can get a new crucible with air tubes attached and fix his own vapman - even on Classics (Mica)!

I thought that if you sanded the mica in the middle, it would come loose and expose the wood there in the center...

I think I see the wood in the center, but the mica seems to stay in place.

Please let us know how it works out and if the mice stays in place.

This is good @simpleasthcis! Awesome job!

so i said i'd come back and give my thoughts on those chinese torches.... well i received three, got three more on the way. i filled one with butane and naturally with my fortune, it wouldnt work. just wont light. that was days ago. i'm still pissed i can't extract and reclaim that load of butane!! i didn't bother to fill and try the other 2. i'll wait till the vapman torches i ordered from @Mojo expire or get lost, then i'll be forced to try again...

Personally, i doubt i'll order anymore of these. i like the vapman torch. i'll order a couple more of those in the future

I found adjusting the flame size on the cheap torches helped me get more consistent lights. When I first tried my chinese torch I would have to click it over ten times before it would ignite. Idk the science behind it but it definitely seemed to work for me, maybe it can help you @Chandler

I only use my cheap lighters when carrying the vapman on water, just incase something was to happen and the torch was to be ruined, it was cheap and not the real deal vapman torch, which is much superior.

I plan to definitely get a back up vapman torch soon because I am quickly approaching the 3 year mark on that beast. The torch was not only used for the vapman but also at my work for those years lighting candles, sternos, tiki torches, and any other job that requires fire!

That's most likely it, it's common to all such lighters since the flow rate through the restriction (open valve) is determined by pressure which is in turn a function of the mix of stuff in the gas and the temperature (and minorly to ambient pressure.....). That's why it's adjustable. The other option, rarely used, is to used a porous membrane (typically a ceramic plate) that 'leaks gas' through many 'molecule size' holes in parallel at a rate determined basically by the size of the holes and the size of the gas molecules trying to squeeze through. At one time Bic marketed a line of such lighters (no flame adjustment).

Back to getting it going...... I suggest you do it in two stages. Using a candle, another lighter or matches set the gas level so it lights and runs at 'the right level (say an inch flame?). Then, as a second step, get the sparker lighting it every time. Normally this is a matter of getting the electrode centered, but dirt and other stuff can keep the gas from mixing properly with the air so the mixture right at the nozzle tip is too rich (not enough air) or too lean (not enough gas) in the mix. That mix has to be right within about 50% or it won't light even when the overall mix is OK.

Your call @Chandler, but these guys do work work very well for many/most of us. BTW, you can drain the fuel back out but I wouldn't recommend it casually. Nor do you need to fill completely to get it working. Good luck with it, but IMO you're into it might as well fiddle some?

By the way... I've seen this Multi Tool + Jet Lighter at the checkout trap in Walmart, for about $6

I haven't tried it, but it may be worth a try for someone who's in desperate need of a torch lighter.

If anyone is brave or (deperate enough) to try it, please report back.

Peace :peace:

I have it, and while the tools are great the torch doesn't work well for the vapman or other butane vapes I own due to the lid getting in the way. you can remove it but it's still a weak torch. Pass on it and get an Eagle, honest, or Zico torch. Those are all serving me well.

@simpleasthcis Nah. Thread isn't dead. i'm still here!

ok, so i finally got around to trying the china Torches again. the first one i filled and said didn't work, still doesn't work. i fiddled with it and now it just doesnt want to click. as if its on lock, but its not locked... so i tried another (got 3). this one worked fine. no issues. the angle is fine, the torch is powerful, the tank is plenty. so long as this torch doesnt quit, and can hold out for the next few months, its most definately the best bang for your buck. i would also reccomend...

all that being said, the vapman torch feels premium in comparison as it should feel. i would go with the vapman torch and have these as backups. i've got 3 more in the mail, feels nice knowing that i have sufficient fire power to last me a long time!! @OF thanks again

Sorry to post this here, but an FC member sent me an email this morning through my contact page, and it glitched and I did not get his email address, so I can't reply.

I fixed the glitch, so the gentleman from the Island in the Indian Ocean, please re-send it so I can get the email address and reply.

Thanks!

My good friend called me today asking about vaporizers which is always an enjoyable opportunity to help a brother out. I just looked at him, and knowing his personality I knew the vapman is the perfect vape for him.

Just yesterday a friend told me he ordered a Vapman after having tried mine.
Than literally ten minutes later a friend's girlfriend ask me where to buy one for her sister with asthma.
@vapman after how many sold Vapmans do we win something?

I also need to thank Rene. I am using my Walnut Vm for somewhat 6 weeks and its going strong.

Was just surprised as I payd tax in Germany..
But its an awesome device.

Now I just need to get some proper storage containers, and (maybe) start building an gourmetBox.. ;)

My Vapman just went from amazing to magical! There was so much sticky goo in the middle section, it was oozing out and making a mess of my fresh herbs. Decided to hit him dry, 6 seconds, fast strong draw to try and inhale the vapour that refused to head in the right direction.. got me by surprise!! Massive clouds, again and again and again. Wow. Vapman is running normally now with fresh herbs.. but my goodness! I'm looking forward to the next time it's completely soaked. ;)
