Vapman

My favorite lighter gave up it's click last night, had a spare thankfully, but it's the only downside to Vapman at all. I want a station SO bad!!!

I've almost convinced husband that it's entirely necessary, but he's waiting for the Zion, and I think he will love it, but I get a feeling that we're going to want both going at once. LOL. I honestly can't imagine another vape being able to fill the Vapman-sized hole in my heart.

Sigh..
Then you haven't been adequately introduced to the symptoms of VAS...

Things you don't own make you think they can fill holes in hearts and more.
At least at my level of suffering, it's mental too.

I do believe my beloved flame powered vapes will outlive expensive storz and bickel vapes. Easily.

Nah, no VAS here, thank goodness. I live a simple existence, and not much room for collections. ;) We fixed our lighter this morning! I ask the question, really, what can't inox do?? Mmm??

Lovely husband asked me this morning if I might be less interested in Vapman using the station. Less? Hmm, nope, lots of other fun things to play with.. Filling, cleaning, grinding.. Don't know that I would miss the torch lighter part..

Where do you get your Tyme? Do you dry fresh Tyme or just buy ground in a bottle?
I go on my balcony and take a mini-scythe and kill some fresh thyme or even other herbs. Sometimes I'm so horrible and use them for cooking. :D

Everyone here is awesome and I've enjoyed your company for a couple of years now.

I wish everyone a happy holidays and may you get everything you ever wished for and more... including, happiness, joy, contentment and peace.
I willingly join Mojos wise words and send to everybody to you and your loves (and/or lovers:lol:) a lot of good vibes and sunshine in your heart, even if it's a rainy cloudy;) day!

Famous last words...lol.
Ha-ha, yes, I can see how VAS could easily take hold though. A couple of things keep it under control, crappy exchange rate for AUD, expensive vapes, plus the legalities all make it much more difficult to get and enjoy. :( Almost makes me want to pack up and move! Husband would be very happy!! He misses quite a lot from the USA. Maybe one day..

Just to let you know, VAS has solutions for all your problem, except the exchange rate peice. But for what it's worth the us dollar isn't worth much to me anyway. Lol

This VapMan love is growing, a week ago I wanted every vape on the planet I have pre orders waiting that I nearly die from impatience over. Got my cool back today and played with it in the jay hook, was nice and I will use it a bit more but i don't think I will ever get bored with the vapman!

About tea...any idea about vaporization but I know it was used in cigarettes during the end of the 19th century in England mainly by ladies, it seems to produces very strong effects (nervosity, hearth issues,...) if used with large amounts since more chemicals are present in the smoke (louis LEWIN, "Phantastica").

The vapman is not my daily driver but I like the ritual and effects and sometimes i take it out to chain bowl after bowl starting dry and using a WT (the Orbiter) at the end!

OK I got my Vapman and had to wait for the torch. Once I got it, well it was an experience just getting it to work. I had never used one before and had a hell of a time learning to fill it but I got the Vapman brand and it seems excellent. It took me a few days to get a nice small flame that didn't burn through the butane, but once I did I really liked using it. I think I mastered the technique of it but I won't miss having using it to vape now that my station arrived, why? Well the one time I combusted really stunk up my bubbler and Vapman and I had to give it a really good clean unscrew it and everything. I even emailed Rene to make sure it wasn't ruined as it caught fire for a second. It was the only time I used the torch method with water.

Dry I never combusted but it did take a while to learn the technique. I also would still burn my fingers and the bottom wood (even with the classic shield on) when I had a bowl or so and couldn't focus. I still will use the torch often to clean the tray's and parts on my other vapes that can be torched so I am glad I have it, but again I won't miss having to use it.

In one word the Station is awesome. Even on six you cannot combust. I am so much more relaxed using this vape now and it is absolutely a work of art and a work horse. I guess I don't even mind my scratches and burn marks I made breaking it in. It works excellent as out of the box. It really does dry herb, hash, and oil all excellent, pairs great with bubblers including my Hydratubes, just a great vape. So little material used to. Heat on demand is very cool. For flowers I go just below four with a bubbler, 5 with hash, and 6 with oil. The oil all absorbed completely and the hash residue burned away with the torch.

I liked the Vapman with the torch, but was a bit jumpy about burning the herbs, the vape and me. Now with the Station it's the first fully portable plug in. May I mention how cool it is that it matches my Vapman wood? So easy to use now and I am glad it has the shut off as I need to get up and leave a few times between sessions and didn't want to lose all the heat by turning it off. A GREAT vaporizer.

So, it's been a month and a half since I got little Vapman in the mail, and I just wanted to say that my technique has been getting better the whole time. I thought I had the hang of it not long after getting it, but no, so it turns out.

I read somewhere that people who are coming from combustion tend to draw too hard, and it's so true! As soon as I slowed down, I'm getting clouds and thick vapor that nearly kills my throat! Crazy! I check for combustion - it hasn't!

A friend was showing his abv the other day - he uses a FM - and its bearly brown, where our abv is coffee coloured or darker. I'm satisfied that we're getting the most out of the herbs!

So, basically, the more VM is used, the better VM is! (Not to mention, the better I am, but that's a different thread..)

I guess I just wanted to exclaim "OMG, it keeps getting better!!" to people who understand. ;)
Thank you!

I think it was a year ago that i ordered my vapman. no regrets :D

awsome work @vapman

I just found out that my mom, who i thought of as being kinda anti weed, got a big jar full of :leaf: for christmas, from my dad, cause it calms her. Time to introduce her to the vapman .

I agree with @Choughed, vapman just gets better and better the more you use it.

Lighter technique improves with time. Some people get it quicker, but anyone with a bit of patience can get results pretty quickly, and then their technique will only improve from there.

I am also amazed at how little material this thing uses and still gives a huge effect! It's the most efficient vape I've used so far.

By the way, I read a while back that some people were leaving the vapman in the Station a bit after the LED turned green to get it a bit hotter... I wonder why they don't crank up the temp dial a bit instead - by half or a full number? I like the idiot-proofness of just setting it and waiting for the green light to come on. :)

I really think people should still become proficient with the lighter though.

Oh, and has anyone connected a battery pack to their Station yet? @OF needs to start experimenting :science: since I believe he was the first to mention that idea... ;)

If I had the $$ floating around for the station, I would do it with the deep cycle batts already in use here.. They're at 24V nominal, but mostly spend their time at 28V while being charged from the panels. Then I use an adjustable converter to bring the voltage down to 20. It's the same setup I use for my printer (22V) and vacuum cleaner (26.5V).

This voltage converter is cheap, and works really well. The one from Jaycar cost $30 and never did work properly. Gotta love it, hmm? Of course, it'd make it no more portable than the mains powered option, but you're set for anything between a blackout right up to a shtf scenario. ;)

Are you sure that's the unit you wanted to link to? That's a boost converter, right? The output has to be higher than the input? Don't you need a buck converter to lower the voltage from 24/28 VDC? Otherwise I think you're on the right track, substitute a bank of 18650s for input power and you're portable. Four in series (or series/parallel) should do you just fine I'd think.

The heating station is always at one set temperature so I leave my timer dial on 3. After a few draws I start leaving it docked for a few seconds after the green light so I can get to max temp of the station.

Just like using the torch. The source of heat stays the same temperature, the length of time you heat for adjusts the temperature of the vapman.

That's a boost converter, right?

It wasn't happy when I tried it with 12V input trying to get to 26.5V, but works perfectly connected directly to the batteries at 28.8V-ish. It's the exact one I'm using though! The voltage output is nice and steady, and doesn't change when the imput voltage does through-out the day. I can't explain why, since it doesn't come with any info, and nothing much is written on it. I'll have to try it again through the 12V and see if maybe I just messed something up the first time. (OTOH, it's working great how it is..)

Based off experience, nothing else, I'd put 6 18650 batteries together in series and convert it down from there. I don't know how long that would last though, and it'd be more difficult to charge 6 18650 batteries up again than 2 or 4 using an external charger. Ah well.. Back to the ol' drawing board.. The torch is pretty practical way of doing this after all. Perhaps just a little holder to keep Vapman in the perfect spot for outdoor use! I noticed my torch's flame gets longer as it warms up though. What we need is a great torch first and formost, IMHO! An elusive beasty..

I think I can explain why you see what you do, the 'flyback' diode is going into conduction and delivering a volt or so less than input (rather than something over the input like a boost converter normally does. It's not really in regulation, right? That is the screw doesn't change the output as it should and as the input goes down (battery discharges) the output tracks that (it drops too)? Only one part of the switcher is active for you, the big diode connected to the inductor. It's one of those two To-220 "transistors" attached to the heatsinks. One is really a transistor (the actual 'switch', almost certainly a FET), the other is the high performance (fast) diode (might have 2 or 3 legs).

Your six 18650 battery bank would have the same problem, no regulation (steady voltage drop with discharge) starting out at something like (4.2X6)-1, 24.2 Volts. At nominal it'd be (3.6X4)-1, 20.6. At discharged it's (3.2X6)-1 for 18.2 Volts. The Power Station may or may not be OK with that. Ironically the classic way around this 'crossover' problem is to first boost the voltage up higher than you'll need then buck down to the desired output. VV e-cigs work this way. They can deliver stable voltages as high as 5 Volts or so from a battery that varies from 4.2 to 3.2 by first making 6VDC. Two switchers, cascaded.

Enjoy your experiments. I ran my PS on batteries only once, using a similar boost converter. It did fine but when the next trip to the garden with VM came up I went back to the torch.

Fun stuff for sure.

Exactly. But why leave it sitting a bit longer after it goes green instead of turning the knob a bit to a higher setting? When you leave it after green, you are "eye-balling" the time, which may fluctuate, when setting it on the dial keeps it constant.

I just now tested the Station again... I love this thing!

That part of the middle section gets blackened with normal use, because of all the vapman, it's this wooden part that gets the most heat.

Judging by the picture, it should be OK, since I don't see y cracks.

You can sand the inside a bit with 600 grit sand paper if you like, but only a bit. If you sand it too much, it may make the locking action get loose by effectively making the middle section a bit shorter and moving the metal pegs lower and closer to the springs.

I would order a new middle section and keep it as backup just in case. They are cheap and well worth the investment.

Peace
