VapCap Induction Heater for Desktop and in Car Use

I've only been running it a day now but I feel compelled to show my new induction VapCap set up as it's easily been the best vaping experience I've ever had.

I recently purchased an induction heater from Pipes (skeletor format) and put it into an old tin I found that happened to be exactly the correct size for the heater. It has three 18650 batteries and by all reports should last at least 100+ sessions. This is obviously unheard of for a portable vape.

The heater heats the VapCap to click in 5 to 10 seconds (no spinning!) and the whole process is completely effortless. I just put my VapCap into the hole and wait for the click. It's actually a bit easier to hear the click now as I don't have to listen for it over the sounds of my butane lighter anymore.

I also put magnets on the lid to cool down the VapCap and on either side of the tin - one to attach the Dynastash and another to attach a small tin to store ABV. This way I have everything I need in one portable station.

I have a couple things to do still - I need to drill a hole for the power charger and I need to replace the rubber gasket around the induction heater hole as I took a chunk out of it when got caught on the sharp tin.

I was a bit concerned about putting the rubber gasket so close to the heater but there is no smell whatsoever and the rubber is completely cool to the touch during and after use. I guess it doesn't get affected by the induction heater. The tin itself seems to only ever get very mildly warm, perhaps heating up only a couple degrees.

Obviously it's not a pocketable setup but I still have my triple jet lighter for that. Anywhere else though I'll be using this heater.

Super-nice setup! How did you cut the hole?

I really like the concept of this. I just ordered my 1st Omni & M & if I really like the vapcaps, you can count me in for one of these babies. Would be nice if one of the guys on the board who are craftsmen would come up with a pre-made wood, metal or aluminum casing for the Skeletor; assumably if it's safe to use wood.

As this technical discussion has been completely over my head, I like to ask a really rudimentary question (no doubt stupid to some), buy why 18650 batteries & not 2000 - 2600mah? Please keep it really short & simple. ;)

Your question is not stupid but I don't understand what you are asking?

Did you mean why 18650 format and not 26650? To which the answer would be space limitation (but you could easily swap the case and use a 26650 battery holder instead, voltage being equal it's easy)

If you are asking about capacity, you can use 2500mAh or 3000mAh cells as long as they have the right C rating. Higher capacity ones have inadequate C rating. Lower capacity ones are overkill.

(note: the above applies to genuine branded cells only, Chinese "xxx-fire" crap-sticks are full of shit and you should never trust their labels anyways)

Yeah, the Portside is aluminum, but I was thinking about an enclosure that was more visually appealing ... it's just a girl-thing. :)

@phattpiggie is playing around with a container for the Skelator. Maybe he will wow and seduce us with his creation.

I've been looking at tins and jars and boxes but haven't found one that I like with the right dimensions.

Finding the right skin for your Skelator is half the fun.

Well, said, Squiby! Exactly! I really like the tin box by Herbonius. Just gotta get someone to make the hole for me & run around to Home Depot to get the correct O-ring.

All I know for sure, is that the vapcap is gonna cost me a ton. Bought a titanium XL & an M for me & an M to pass on along, along with meeting all you requirements with your First Aid Kit. Yes, even bought a backup ti tip. And if I love the vapcap as much as everyone leads me to believe I will, I'll wind up getting the Skeletor, DDave's vapor cooler V3, a stashbox & Sneakypete's 10mm Little Bandit Portable Water Tool &
3-in-1 10mm Glass Adapter so that another $200+ on top of the $300+ spent on the sale. Ouch! Hope I can afford the herb to put in it. :p Now I'm in the process of ordering butane.

What I do need from you Squiby is the link to the member who makes custom stashboxes. I saw it in one of your posts in passing days ago on one of the threads, tried a few failed search attempts & just can't get myself to go through your 1500 posts to find it right now. What I want is a stashbox that will house both the M & the Omni XL with 2 magnets on top.

Now except for a finding the right lighter, there can't be anything possibly left to get, except insurance for the whole kit & caboodle.

Thank you for your reply.

I asked because (I read in passing) when looking up 18650 batteries that someone said they lacked the longevity of the higher capacity cells I mentioned between charges. BTW, I did have to google C rating. :pStretching my brain today.

Agreed, I only purchase my branded batteries through thomasdistributing or Amazon.

the member who makes custom stashboxes.

I think that you're referring to @Winegums. Here is the link to his Etsy store.

https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/WinegumsWoodcraft

And his thread.

If you like the Dynastash idea, you can ask them to make a custom stash. For your requirements you would ask for a XL Dynastash 2G 2M. (2 garage, 2 magnets)

How about who you will leave your vapcaps to in your will?

Did you've ask @phattpiggie or @Winegums for custom stashboxes?

I'm looking for find the pics of stashboxs I saw posted & can't find them even with a search. @Winegum doesn't have any pics of stashbox posted under his profile link & I now I'm scrolling through the 27 pages for @phattpiggie 's Wood Shed to see if he was the one with those pics. But I do like the lighter @phattpiggie posted:

mnH6HOcm.jpg

@phattpiggie did say a year ago that "If the VC community could agree on a lighter that everyone liked I would make more of these." So, did the community ever settle on a standard for a butane lighter?

All I know for sure is that I got weeks if not months of reading to get up to speed on this board. Heck, it's gonna take me weeks just to play around with the vapcap thread trying all the little tips & tweaks everyone has posted. I'll get there in time, but I already have a headache & I think my eyes are bleeding. :ugh:

Not that I'm aware of but here is the Vapcap Lighter thread.

Here is the box that could house several Vapcaps on @Winegums store.

https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/521131420/oak-valet?ref=shop_home_feat_2

He didn't have any dynastash pictured in his store

A "Dynastash" is a stash made by Dynavap, the Vapcap company. Here is a custom Dynastash G2 M2.

This configuration will sacrifice the herb compartment.

I would avoid amazon altogether and stick to illumn.com or imbatteries.com.

Before any further question and as a reminder to all thread readers >> http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/18650-battery-safety.18527/

Don't take any risk, play it safe!

Do know about battery safety. Have been buying from thomasdistributing for about 10 years now. (I'm a flameless candle connoisseur. Think Luminara.) But I'm always open to see if I can get a better deal.

But, oh no, now another thread to absorb.

Hey guy's, here's an update to the progress and availability of these heaters.

First thing is the Portsides are getting done in spurts as time permits. I guesstimate completion of the 2nd batch, of 31, to be shipping in a month. I have the LEDs and tactile switches mounted in the coil set up. This is actually the hardest part because of the tedious work involved. Battery cases are also all complete with BMS boards attached.

What's left to do: Wire harnessing, drilling and adding kill switch and battery gauge. Finial assembly testing and detailing. Holidays in a couple weeks to finish them up.

The Skeletor and JarheadII lists were all caught up but now have a couple more JHIIs to make. Yes, I had ordered 20 more power supplies for Jarheads as some folks really did not want to deal with batteries. So they are actually next on my to-do list as can do without a lot of set up. There are 6 units out there so far so have room for about a dozen more adopters.
I've made a couple changes, thus the JHII, as from the feedback from the first batch. First off, I've gone back to the original mason jar container. This is for easy replacement in case of user mishap. (will not mention names) These jars can be had anywhere...almost. Also, the glow tube is now standard.

The other problem was the unit breaking free from the lid. This solution could be incorporated into the original as well. I ditched the intermediate perforated board as not using glue this round. Instead, I'm using cable tie mounts screwed directly to the lid. Using wax cable tie string, the unit is strapped tightly to the lid. There is a cushion between the unit and lid so it will not move on the lid. @PPN was actually the first adopter.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For those sourcing power supplies. I have found this can be a real pita as so many DO NOT work, even though they are rated for 6 or more amps. I tried two different 6 amp supplies and both would go into protection shut down. Very frustrating... :bang:
I ended up ordering more of the 5 amp supplies I had before because I know they work. And they work very well. No explanation, but they must be putting out at least 5.5 amp. Problem is, can only order in lots of 20 so a link will not be of any help for the DIYers. Plus, they are not really all that cheap even buying 20 at a time. Good news is ship quick as they use FedEx. At another cost, of course.

Very happy that this unit has worked out so well for everyone. Thank you all very much for the positive input. It's very satisfying to me to know it's being enjoyed so much!
It can really make a big difference for how the VC get used, not to mention the relief on fingers having to "flick the bic" all the time. Can even make the VC line up usable for some that could not use before for this very reason.

Enjoy the porn!

Hi @Pipes, congrats! You will have to work more. The more peopel are buying your devices the more want ot order one for themselves. Everybody who is able to test one will be so excited.

The Skeletaor saves my day when it arrives yesterday - without my long awaited Supreme V3 which unfortunately remains in the US wwhat sadden me a lot.
Was so sorry but my mind was lifted immediately by watching the Skeletor at work and - when I saw that you have used a - filled! - box of tic tacs as a distance bridge - so crazy, had to wish my tears of laughing away. Very weird and therfore a nice detail IME!

Some side notes:

1) Take care when using cable tie strings. I had to cut mine cause they were positioned in the mid of the batterie holder. So I couldn't put in the bats without cutting the strings.

2) Regarding your words about power supply of the Jarhead. Do you mean a power supply or the charger I need for the Skeletor too?
We - means @vapen00b - have ordered some 220V charger for the skeletor in china which are working flawless up to now.
If you should be interested we could tell you model and purchaser.

So, I managed to take a couple quick shots of my Skeletor and the crude 'prototype' box I made for it. Here they are, for your viewing pleasure!

iPua2G2.jpg

I tucked the wires away into the tic tac box. Just had to enlarge the hole in the white top. Easy enough to do. I also made a shim of sorts and taped the battery indicator down at the bottom, alongside the switch and charging port.

The Skeletor slides right into the side of the box:

Once the Skeletor is inserted, the side of the box slides into place:

It's not perfect. I have a couple design improvements in mind for the final version. That one will also be measured, cut, and assembled more carefully. Lol. I just slapped this one together quickly. It does the job though!

That's all for now. I'm off to go play with this thing some more! :spliff:

Lol yeah all I had to make it was a cheap coping saw, a square, and a tube of super glue. And a piece of sandpaper to try to straighten my cuts out, haha. Not the best setup by any means. I just needed to make a home for my Skeletor quickly so it wouldn't accidentally get damaged. Version 2 will be done more properly, with better tools, more time and care given... And prettier wood! :brow:

I tried to find a way to keep the tic tacs, I swear! Thought it was genius to have a 2-in-1 vape heater/mint dispenser! But in the end, they had to go to make room for the wires...
