Underdog Log Vapes

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Happy post 4/20. After being prodded from at least 3 different people, I broke down and got my very first UD.
Curly Pyinma UD with wong 3.5" Ed's TnT Amboyna Burl. Both nice woods. The Curly UD has a satin finish that goes in the opposite pattern of the grain.
Being a first time buyer/user. So glad I got a long TnT stem and don't have to sort out a packing method until I'm ready to experiment. 2 dimmer switches to arrive.

Well back to the lab. Once I get to know 'Curly' more, I'll give my first impressions.:2c:

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog! (Underdog!)
Underdog! (Underdog!)
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder!
Fighting all who rob or plunder!
Underdog! (Ooooooo!)
Underdog! UNDERDOG!!

There's no need to fear, underdog is here!

Loved the cartoon as a kid.

Now loving the vape as an "adult". :ko:

Anyone know a good way to get combustion taste/smell out of a stem that has experienced combustion?

I 2nd @Melting Pot , I have a glass container in my cupboard that I intermittantly change the ISO out of, I just throw bits and pieces of everything in there and let it soak for like an hour, then I pull the pieces out, rinse them with hot water (I feel like the heat helps evap any excess iso) then I finish rinsing them with warm/room temp water......a second rinsing with cooler water seems to really help me out, don't know if I just wasn't rinsing as well because the water was too hot and burning my hands or what  but then I just let them air dry and they are good to go!

I do the same thing with the screens, except when they get extra dirty, I torch them lightly for like 10 seconds prior to doing all that. Use the soft part of the flame and not the "tip" (idk if this is proper terminology), tip gets the screens too hot and they lose flexibility once they cool.

Hope you all had a great 4/20! I had an interesting chat yesterday with a guy on Reddit....really, I am pretty boring and only post online about vaporizers and the show Survivor  and this was at the top of the my reddit page cause of the holiday
fabio.png

The guy whose name is written down, actually won (against Chase Rice of all people..pre fame...) and was a stoner/surfbro kid, and wanted to get a Volcano with the winnings.

So all these Survivor fans are touting their elementary vaporizer knowledge about how dope the Volcano is and how it's the creme de la creme and I just couldn't help to throw my .02 in ;) about how it's nice but I much prefer X,Y,Z and Underdog was on that list :)

One guy was really interested only caveat was he is Canadian....do you do Canada? Told him to ask and send ya an email/message if he wanted to try and get the ball rolling but also said I'd do him the solid and check.

Best to you alls! Really digging thosse Banksia Poddogs! Must resist....

Any reviews of the Buck/Boost VVPS? Is it better than or equal to the tattoo style vvps?

I do not own the Buck/Boost VVPS, but I do own a tattoo power supply.

The tattoo VVPS I have gets hotter than the vaporizer itself. So hot, I could probably get a decent hit by jamming a stem against the side vent and pulling a lung full. :p

All joking aside, you would be hard pressed to find a quality tattoo power supply for what Underdog is charging for his Buck/Boost unit. :2c:

...hello.
I purchased the buck/boost from the site and it works great...Its tiny..and is easy to adjust...it works well.
For my situation..its placement,..which is under my coffee table is hidden and ideal.... I use it at 13 for water..that's it.
I guess if you use it as a dimmer as well..the small adjustable screw vs. a touch pad or dial could be a pain...otherwise it does what it's supposed to do very well.

..good question.
I'd ask the top dog...
..one thing I really like about my U.D. is it didn't need a bunch of modifications to reach its potential on its own...so..anything outside the realm of what they suggest is not on my menu.
But seeing as its a socket issue..or an issue aside from the dogs general performance itself...you may be onto something for your situation.
I wish you the best.

That's especially important to me. I need a vape to be easy to use, requiring as little maintenance as possible. My drastically modded Aromed may be somewhat comparable to the Underdog in terms of performance, and Aromed vapor tastes amazing, but the Aromed is complicated, clumsy, and requires more maintenance/cleaning than I am willing to provide anymore, due to my disability. Which costs money (replacing broken glass parts regularly) and creates stress I really don't need. Underdog doesn't. Consequently, my Underdog is infinitely more functional to me than my Aromed. I have to believe it would be similarly more functional to other folks with neurological disorders, too.

Well my technique has been improving. Even having used this thing for a couple more days, I feel like I am able to get results I am very happy with, and more flavor with much shorter draws. It'd just be good to know approximately what this dimmer might do. I'm sure I can figure this out with a bit of trial and error but I figured enough folks around here utilize this same modification and would have a fair idea.

Dimmer came in today, have not quite hooked it up yet. If I turn the dimmer alllllllllll the way down, what kind of voltage might that represent? Just trying to get a gauge on how much control is in this knob. If I go as low as it goes, will it be at half temp or will it be less, or?

If you have $5 you can get a multimeter & work out your own settings. Just heat up a pin & burn some marks in the dimmer for handy reference. I have 9v, 12v & 12.3v marked although you will pretty much have sleep & max power. They are also pretty handy if you have portable vapes & want to check out how your batteries are going. The manual dimmer can jump quite but a good resting rate should be at the 11 o'clock position with max power at the 5 o'clock position.

I will be most interested to hear @CuckFumbustion's opinion of his new pup once they get acquainted in the lab :science:. I see only good times ahead & a 3 pack of various stems on sale would be a great compliment especially at the heavily reduced price.

Not to take this off topic but that was a fucking tribal & a 1/2 @HellsWindStaff :goon:! Trial & error is exactly what it will take @indicandescent & that is only a good thing as you will find out what works best for you . Currently for me I have been using my thick direct draw stem for 70% of my vaping & using less water but it is normally 70/30 the other way.

I also gave a mate the specs for my UD vape station so hopefully he comes through with the goods. I designed it to take 6 x 18mm pieces on one side & 6 x 14mm on the other side with a cradle for the UD to sit in & a couple of pick holders in the middle. I also have him making one similar for my Air but he does owe me a favour & I advised him on getting his first vape.

Did a small acetone wash today & got .1 of some very nice & amber shatter. My footy team plays in 45 minutes & things are looking on the up & up.

Sweet. I have some stuff coming from Underdog today, including a gong stem, and a female/female adapter coming tomorrow from a different vendor, which will allow me to use my UD with the recycler I pictured a couple days ago. Except the USPS tracking updated and the adapter should be here today, too. Excellent.

I am enjoying my log !!

Coming from a Crafty I am used to rich clean golden honey, but the dog stems let in many small particles...

Can I put two screens in glass stems?

Can I ISO rinse and re-claim the Nylon SS stems/adapters?

Other reclaim advice would be much appreciated!!
First watch the video from Underdog that will give you tips on how to install the basket screen. There are tips there that will be helpful. You can use two screens. Properly place the original screen. Take a second basket screen and insert from the other end with basket facing the opposite direction from the already inserted basket.. NOTE...this will not work with the GonG stem. Push this second stem up to within about 1/4 inch of the originally inserted basket. This "backup" screen
will catch almost all the material. It will get clogged after a bunch of sessions. That's the best part. Push your tamping stick up through the bottom until the front screen comes out. Push your "backup screen" in so it will be just above the core of the UD. This screen will be covered with small particulate soaked in wand oil.
Hit that thing! You can also use cotton in the stem as a filter. Not as much fun.

Hey Dogs, as usual we're a bunch of softies and are going to let the 420 special run thru the end of the month for those of you waiting on a paycheck, etc. Enjoy! :peace:
C'mon Payday. Oh wait theirs Paypal too. 14 days till I'm charged. Jackpot! Order placed.

Blown the 4/20 budget ATM. But hard to pass up a 4/20 discount.
@Stevenski had been one of the Good FCers who have been rec'ding a UD to me. He already knows all about the lab projects I've done with my EQ on the EQ thread and he has been making an effort on trying to same on materials himself. Which I'm sure was much more of a journey and $$$ for him to get his hands on a UD than it was for me.

I've read up about the UD being a miser on materials and being a no nonsense heater core and with minimal components that get in the way. Universal DC 12v for mine. Which means I can rummage through my rats nest of wires at home looking for a 2nd power transformer or perhaps better. :brow: No indicator lights or feedback with the UD. Does it feel warm now ? OK probably GTG then.

Here's what I ordered from UD. This should cover all the bases plus the extras that came with my UD. Thanks @SSVUN~YAH for the launch kit. Here is what else Curly is getting from Underdog Aromatherapy direct. Got some plans for the SS tip.:science:
Formed Screens 5pk SS Tip
Mix 'n' Match Stem 3pk
- Stem 1: Direct Draw (Thick)
- Stem 2: NonG 18/19mm
- Stem 3: NonG 14mm

Still getting to know my Curly UD. The TnT stem is really helping with the learning curve. Instead of having to sort out the best screen placement on top of getting the best heat, while getting accustomed to a loose fit arrangement.

The UD adapter I have has a huge transformer in it. I'm familiar with letting my EQ preheat and leaving it plugged in and warmed up so it's GTG. Where the UD is all about direct power to the core. Anything information on preheating or leaving a UD on for extended periods, smart ways to preheat would be helpful. I have been putting my Aroma cap on my UD to help the SS heat up.

A SS core that heats up a narrow SS wand. It doesn't expand the vapor like other vapes. At least for me ATM. Which is probably a plus for some going for a one hit extraction.
The parts are minimal but appear rugged. Purposely minimal. The air path being the outside of the core(?) and perhaps any narrow gaps between the stem and the rim around the screen. (I'm looking at Ed's TnT Vapcap for this reason. A narrow gap between two pieces of heated metal, being the air path.)

Trying to not let the nice wood grains sway my opinion. But it is a different experience pulling off a wood stem after going glass for a year now. Much less fancy hardwoods.

All the restriction seems to be in the stem area alone. The heater has no feedback going to it and what ever power is pushing behind it dictates how well it powers up and stats heated.

You could cool down the core with enough of a draw and wait for the UD to catch up heat wise. Also a method of cooling down the UD from overheating.

Well saving up for a VPPS setup, If I don't already have something about. There is a special power supply with a 12.5 setting I might have around.:hmm: 2 dimmers switches on the way.

Took an odd small glass wand that I bought on impulse and fitted a 14mm basket screen in it. (I own a @DDave kit that comes with the 14mm screens made for the 14mm wands) Placed the flat rim part of the screen on the top of the rim of the core of the UD and heated things up in that manner. If you can hold it in place long enough, it will vape with glass nearly all convection heat. I think the conduction of the SS and the narrow vapor path and lack of retriction is what contributes to the UD's performance. :2c:But I've only owned one for 3 days, So I'm no expert. anybody care to chime in? :peace:

I just received my new Air Core about a week ago. I'm pretty happy with it but the issue I have is the recovery time between hits or packs. Often times I'll pack my 2nd hit and it will not be a good hit which really sucks. I'm using the glass stem. How long of a breaks should I take between stem packs? Anything I can do to seed up recovery?

Thank you all!

I second what @TeeJay1952 said, but I also find with my Air Core Bocote (Twig for lack of a better term....thicker than a standard twig log I think tho but definitely thinner than my other logs) I need like 3-5 minutes between bowls. I'm also cashing my glass bowls in about a hit or two as well, so I'm drawing on it long. Sounds kinda similar to what your doing, if on your second stem it seems cool, so just pause and wait for 3-5 minutes

I also fully recommend a long heat soak for all Underdogs....I generally just wait an hour, 45 minutes sometimes. Just seem to retain it better.....could be my dogs too because they all are thicker than the Air Core I mentioned...I have an Air Core with a pretty big body too and it retains heat awesomely, no wait time.

A long heat soak IMO reduces the need to wait between stems but idk if that's true....I just know I rarely ever have to wait and I always have mine running nice and hot prior to use

Hope it helps man!

Edit: @diseaze sweet pup! Really dig that stripe! Glad you like it and welcome!
