I went with an Alpha Mini because I didn’t have any Minis yet. I’ll be completely over run by Dogs soon. That's a beautiful first dog!
I have a SC3 and 2 Alpha cores. Trying to figure out which one would be a great addition....
Wondering if a Alpha Mini would make a good fit...
@underdogette The web site seems to have a super slow time uploading graphics....
it’s working fine from here in floridaIs it still having trouble? It seems ok from here at the moment.
Mine got here fast! Hope yours makes it on time. This thing's a ton of fun!nice … mine is supposed to be delivered tomorrow!!
You know with the Underdog I don't really need the click - but if I could use the glass Dynavap stems with my Underdog, that's good enough. But I don't think he wants to make any more of the ACXLs, not sure why. Thing is I've gone through such conniptions trying to find a way to not have to make baskets for my UD stems, and if I could use my DV glass stems that problem would be solved. I can just drop a regular screen in there flat (the DV screens suck rox, I wasted about $20 buying spares I'll never use, they let so much ABV through its ridiculous).
If I could use my DV stems with the UD, I'd be one happy camper.
The Woodscents Simrell chamber fits the Alpha (and Dynavap stems) as well and seals better without the serrations, imo.So it turns out that the Dynavap tips fit inside the Alpha heater JUST FINE.
So now I'm REALLY confused. What was different about the ACXL if you can already use the Alpha's with your dynavap stems and tips (but not caps)?
Ah! Scar! I remember him!Introduced my ambrosia maple ES/TU Alpha to the rest of the dog family! my first alpha ... gonna give it a workout later today!

yes sir!Man, what a collection! Are those all different cores?
Wow!! Which do you use most? Do you have any special uses for the older ones? I love that you can have a full set and while you could see they're made by the same hand, they're all different.yes sir!
Ambrosia Maple ES/TU Alpha up front
others left - right
Beech Wood / SC1, "Gnarly Dog" / Spalted Hackberry / SC3, Custom "FYT" / Black Locust / SC3+, Smash Oak / SC2, Monkeypod / Stinger SC3+ ES/T
the custom fyt (fuck you tree) with the sc3+ is beside my spot on the couch and gets the most use … i use the “gnarly dog” with the sc3 in my music area … the others i use sporadically … looking forward to trying the alpha core!Wow!! Your ambrosia maple Alpha is so gorgeous. I was really liking the ambrosia sycamore sc3+; there's another maple, too.the custom fyt (fuck you tree) with the sc3+ is beside my spot on the couch and gets the most use … i use the “gnarly dog” with the sc3 in my music area … the others i use sporadically … looking forward to trying the alpha core!
thanks… dave’s work is always beautiful … he has a knack for finding the perfect way to turn a piece of wood to get the most grain beauty out of it!Your ambrosia maple Alpha is so gorgeous. I was really liking the ambrosia sycamore sc3+; there's another maple, too.

So that is my Blue Gum ACXL. I burned this puppy in last night. Using it with my Dynavap BB9 stems with the titanium tips. Also the Dynavap bong adapter with the standard M9 tip. I've been using the bong adapter and the BB9 stems (mostly) through this little bubbler I got from Sneaky Pete:

Before I got my Dynavap capable UD, I was using my Dynavap stems/tips with the Wand, a battery powered induction heater. The ACXL is much much better IMNSHO.
The wand heats up fast, but it also just keeps on heating up. It has temperature settings on it, digital even, but they aren't real temp measurements, its a timer. If you pick a higher temp, the internal timer runs for longer. Consequently it keeps heating up until the timer shuts it off, so the temp is never stable. Most people seem to either go for one hits with the wand or else they sort of "pulse" it by lifting it on and off the dynavap. This doesn't work for me, and I've found that because of the it-just-keeps-heating-up nature of the device, your weed can go from being toasted to burnt in a flash and a puff of smoke.
However with the ACXL, I can set it to whatever temp I want by adjusting the voltage on the power supply. It'll fluctuate a bit but is relatively stable for a given voltage setting. Your 12v may not heat up as much as my 12v (or vv) but once you get the voltage set to your preference you really won't have to mess with it. It'll go up to whatever temp your voltage supply delivers at that set temp and stay right in that general area.
The ACXL is also lighter weight and easier to handle. I can set my dynavap stem in a bubbler with the tip pointing up and just set the ACXL on top and it balances on there very nicely and weighs less than the Wand as well.
Since you can't leave the cap on when using the ACXL you do need to be sure to have the UD at an angle that prevents the dry herb from spilling out but you have to do that anyway with any UD stem.
I'm really happy with this setup.
BTW I can make the Dynavap stem/tips work with the Alpha dogs and the SC3, by using a piece of silicone tubing over the end as an "air lock", but its sort of klugy and this is much much nicer. I don't have to mess with removing the silicon tubing to refill the Dynavap with the ACXL because the Dynavap tips fit nicely down in there and make a pretty good seal to the heater core without the extra tubing.
I hear a lot of people say they like vaping because the flavor is so nice. I don't much care about the "flavor" of weed, it all tastes pretty much the same to me - sort of grassy - but there is a definite difference in flavor between the ACXL and the Wand (forget real fire, that's even harder to control). In the ACXL's favor. With the ACXL set to the voltage that is optimal for you and your setup to get to the temps you want, you have way more control over how fast/hot you are vaping. With the wand I was regularly combusting because it just gets hotter and hotter as you go on and the time to vape production keeps changing (getting shorter the longer you go on, until it starts cooling off, then it gets longer again).
With the ACXL and ONE user the system is stable and I found I could pretty much hit the vape at any point with noticeably better flavor than I was ever able to achieve with the wand. Also I can leave the UD/ACXL on there for a LOT longer with no danger of combusting. Its a lot more forgiving. In fact I'm not sure I CAN make it combust as long as its set where I've got it now. At least not by accident.
There are 2 advantages to the Wand over something like the ACXL that I see, one is it takes batteries so its portable, something that is not at all important to me but lots of people value. I prefer a plug in unit like the ACXL - no batteries to add to land fills for no good reason.
The second is that you can pass a Wand around in a group setting and it will continue to perform pretty much the same as long as the batteries hold out, where a UD/ACXL will need to "rest" between uses to build the heat back up. One person (me) using it didn't make any noticeable difference, recovery time was not noticeable eg it had already recovered before the next time I went to hit it. Log vapes are individual devices IMO. And I love all my doggies (I bought an Alpha, an SC3 or SC3+, I forget which, and an SC3/+ that I gave away), but it sure looks like I'm going to be lavishing most of my attention on the ACXL from now on.
I have not but I may try one here soon. I'm still recovering from a move - still have boxes piled EVERYWHERE and it is time to start plants for the garden in the spring and I don't have any lights or shelves set up for that. Just lots of annoying post-move stuff going on.Lovely log, great review!
Have you tried a Woodscents Thermal Extraction Chamber? Not sure it fits the ACXL but it would be a bigger herb chamber with a better seal, assuming it fits.
