Underdog Log Vapes

Does anybody have any more specific details about what a Alpha Mini and a Alpha X Core are, and how they work relative to other dogs? Like, with the Mini, the website says "the miniature version of our Air Core with a 3 watt ceramic resistor. Due to the tiny nature of this unit, the heat will quickly degrade the wood, so we advise users to only run it for no more than an hour or so at a time." Presumably, with an alpha core, it would degrade even faster, should we leave it on for less than an hour?

I would love to know the answer to this too. I bought an Alpha Mini in any case. It was cheap and pretty and I'm keen to try another dog to see how it compares to my plain ol' SC3.

How many vaps could a Vapman vap…
So I’m not sure if this has been talked about before in the long history of this vape, but I was seshing my UD tonight with the long glass WPA, but instead of throwing the log straight on I hit it with my small single flame torch like you would a Roasty or Vaponic type vape.
Once the load started to get a nice brown I threw the UD back on and let it rip.... boy oh boy it was pretty good. I did have a nice fat dab on top too and I pretty much roasted it all in one toot.
This is with a regular SC3 on 11.3v

From what I was told regarding my Blue Mahoe Alpha, "Mahoe Doggo is a bit of a hybrid in that it's a normal length Alpha but has some of the A+ baffles in it so it's probably a bit more kick ass than a standard Alpha." It is my only dog, so Ii can't compare it to any other models, but I love it.

How is everyone liking their Alpha plus units? Really tempted to snag one...
My Alpha + rules for sure, it takes about 45 minutes to come to full heat soak but after that it has the least amount of lag of any of my log vapes. It packs a huge punch and can crush twax bowls with ease, giving giant, super flavorful clouds. I really, really love it.

Hey @underdog a little more info about the ACXL core heater please. Is this a totally new iteration, or a resurrection of a version that has been available before? In terms of heating capability, would it be more similar to the SC3, the SC3+, or one of the other cores (or none of them)? Just window shopping, asking for a friend, any diversion tactic that keeps the wife off the scent (after all she is the real Alpha round these parts). Just want to be more informed in case I decide to slip another dog into the pack. If I have missed the particulars of the ACXL in past posts, I apologize, and someone please point me to the posts. Thanks.

The ACXL is meant for dynavap tips no? So it’ll be pretty small load sizes. And it won’t work for any of your existing UD stuff. Also you will need a new power supply as I believe this one is suggested to be ran between 13-15v

@Arawfish nailed it with the most important bits of info I think but to elaborate the ACXL is both an iteration and resurrection of the original Air Core from 2016. I had intended to release this as a larger version of that original core but I finished the SC1 to SC2 update quicker than anticipated and then the Alpha-SC2 instead which eliminated the need for these. I thought we'd gotten rid of the tubing and heater parts but found them recently in stuff that had survived the fire and decided to build them out instead of letting the materials go to waste. We didn't have stem options in the pipeline but found a couple existing UD stems fit, if poorly, so sent some of those out with a few test pieces to some testers and was quickly informed they worked alright with those stop-gap stems but that dyna tipped stems which fit really, really nicely and performed amazingly. I think there is an 18mm GonG that fits pretty well too but can't seem to find any notes on it.. but dyna stuff fits great.. at least every one we've tested or heard back on for the most part. They do need a higher voltage as our vapes of that era used heaters spec'd to allow the use of a 12v wall-wart without combusting unlike most of our offerings in recent years.

Testers are no longer sworn to secrecy now that the pieces are released so hopefully some of them will post info or observations, etc.

Performance wise they are pretty beastly, I'd say comparable to a current Alpha.

We don't plan on making more once I burn thru the rest of the parts (used most of it for this batch) but will support and rebuild them as needed like any vape we sell.

This might make a nice addition to the pack then. I have several custom wood dynas that I’ve acquired just because of the wood, never been used and waiting for their call up. And my custom TimberHead power supply can easily handle that voltage. Seems like I need to make a decision.

Ooo those will look real nice then I bet! Sounds like you’ve already made your decision

And man! those TimberHeads are special! Super cool and very affordable. Definitely going to be my next purchase to power these Dogs considering I now have 3 of them. Maybe I’ll build a little Dog House for them to be in while not in use haha

"the miniature version of our Air Core with a 3 watt ceramic resistor.
so it uses third~ the power, and it looks like it has a third~ of the wood content building, so maybe if you place it on some metalic "pad" (cold surface) or so it will be fine? maybe more than a hour even..

Dave confirmed with me that you can run it for longer than an hour, it just has a much shorter life than a regular core.

From Dave himself:

Thanks! The Alpha X core pieces are regular size Alphas that have been stuffed full of Alpha+ tech but without the larger size wood body requirements.. so regular size but with probably 85% of the performance gains of the +.

It'll probably become the standard Alpha a bit down the road as I dial in the new equipment and processes involved.
