Hey there Underdogs, looks like I've got some catching up to do on the thread.. Underdogette and I have been out of internet range since just after my last post as our traveling shenanigans have continued as those of you who read our non-UD blog(s), follow our non-UD social media, etc already know. For those who don't just suffice it to say that many shenanigans have been, and continue to be, had.

From day one the level of customer service, support, and friendliness proves to be the hallmark for this exceptional company. My opinion (not withstanding) is that both Dave and Underdogette view each customer as a unique entitiy and treats them accordingly. His above-captioned post is just one of many in this thread to support my opinion...Just sayin'.

I received a new UD over the weekend, but it's running a bit hot. I tried using the extension cable and the herb was still much toastier than I would like.

I found I really like the temperature with the VVPS turned between 8~9V, but having the bulk of the VVPS on the cord triggers my OCD.

Any suggestions on a wall wart that could get me down to 9V without the VVPS or a dimmer? Looking through the Jameco site is overwhelming for someone who knows almost nothing about electronics.

I know you already got past this a little bit after you posted this but I'll post here anyways. As an alternative to the VVPS I've had good luck with these adjustable wall-warts. Busted out my dog and decided to run it on the stock power supply. It's one of the last aircores and I'm rocking my usual nylon and going through water with a strong sativa. I spaced out 4 bowls over an episode of Living Single and now I'm feeling good.
Sipping on some Dale's Pale Ale and just feeling grateful to have my dog.

It's dependable, easy to use, efficient. It does not extract quite as deeply as my other log vape, but I'm not complaining. The vape signature of my Underdog is very pleasurable. It's like a cruise high. Does that make any sense? It's not a face smasher. The way I use it, it's not sipping. It's a long one hit extraction with tons of vapor from a small amount. And the avb is reusable. So yeah.
Plus, every Underdog is a unique work of art. I love the simplicity and beauty of it.

Hey guys, got myself my first dog during the winter sale. He's figured walnut, sc2. https://i.imgur.com/1n7P7Cu.jpg He's gonna be the perfect companion for a while, I can tell. Bad cell camera and lighting don't do it justice but you guys know how great these things look.

I have a couple questions about how to get the most out of it. I'm sure they've been answered, I've lurked the thread a bit but it's obviously long lol.

If there's a solid post of info someone could point me towards that'd be cool, otherwise my main concerns are below.

Trying to find my ideal voltage. I chose this vape partly because of the power and I wanted a fuller extraction than I was getting from my other vapes. I've been messing with various temps trying to find the sweet spot. I started around 11.4 and in general I didn't tend to combust on my first hits I guess because my herbs kinda moist but then I'd combust on second or third hit until I turned it down to about 10.9. I miss those first hits from around 11.4 though, not gonna lie. I could start there and then turn it down after a hit I guess but seems kind of annoying, I'd rather find a stable spot to stick with through a session. How do you guys find the right voltage? If you combust how do you know if you should lower voltage vs adjusting screen or if it was your draw? Are you guys capable of combusting at your ideal voltage and you just need to keep the technique down? Any tips in this regard would be appreciated.

Was also wondering if it's possible to more fully extract an overly packed bowl in a gong in 1 or 2 hits. Currently takes me like 3 or 4 with stirring, usually the abv top and center is really dark (good) but the rest around is really yellow/green and through a small bubbler it just stops producing vapor until I stir it. I generally do pretty long slow draws. Don't get me wrong, it fills up my mobius sidecar no problem, it's just that instead of me stopping the draw because I'm scared I'm gonna die I just don't have that option and the vapor stops haha. Any advice for big bong rips appreciated.

Last thing is I was wondering if it's a big deal if herb touches the heating element. I assume not really as long as its not effecting airflow and anything that falls in there can just be blown out but just wondering.

I basically have no problems with smaller loads so if I could just get a little more mileage out of the gong I would be stoked.

I can't really add anything that Jcharles doesn't add below other than you might try some voltages in between with an extra long heat up time (like an extra 5-10 minutes) if you haven't already. Sometimes works wonders with difficult strains, etc. That said I'd try JCharles advice.. he's an UD Cloud Master. No joke check out the videos on his instagram.

@Edge4o7 You will get better extraction if you load smaller amounts. I fill 1mm to 2mm above the basket screen and tamp lightly. Everything sits inside the screen even with a super light tamp (more of a leveling).

Then it's 1 or 2 rips and good. I don't stir, I just do another stem. Better flavour and great extraction. Save it all for avb goodies.


Draw speed is important for regulating the heat, especially through a water pipe. Start with a slow draw to pull heat into the herb, and increase your draw towards the end. The slower speed will be hotter than the fast draw.

I don't let my herb touch the screen over the core. I don't even come close. I'm usually 1mm above the heater tube and I get awesome rips.

So I just had this random thought. You know how Microsoft and apple can see what percentage of users have what version of their OS, right? So wouldn't it be cool to see a graph of that info? I'm high as hell, grinning eat to ear.
Got another nylon bowl packed and with a little CBD isolate on top and going stock voltage through bubsy, the dry bubbler. And then it's off to bed. I love the feel of my warm log Vapes. My dog is a Walnut, which is very smooth to the touch. It's fallen a few times, and it's still kicking ass and taking names with just a couple very minor cosmetic dings in the wood.
I don't use my ss lite stem anymore cause none of the screens I have left fit it anymore. Eventually I'll order some more, but I need to wait until more things are on the list before I order. Take advantage of shipping and all.

Oh yeah! So eventually I played with the o ring that acts as a stop for glass stems so much that it broke. I really don't use glass very much at all with it anyway, so I really didn't mind. But then one day after months of not caring, I decided I would fix it. I let it cool down and found a length of clean silicone that fit over the core easily and cut a thin section. It stops easily at the pinch where the o ring would normally sit. It had the slightest smell at first and then gone. It's been about a month like this and I've only used a glass stem like three times. But it works well.

Anyway, to anyone browsing this thread and wondering if it will be a good purchase... Yes. This is one of the companies that makes a solid product with awesome support and solid accessories and a heart of gold. Seriously, great people through and through. But if for some reason you don't want it anymore, there are always people looking to collect the beautiful one-of-a-kind wood Vapes. Easy to find a good home for a good vape. I love my logs!

My old Dog was larger and it didn't have a voltage regulator. This awesome trade came with a bunch of stems, screens etc. I am really digging the glass stems at about 12 volts.
Anyone have any tips, suggestion, etc? Anyone know what kind of wood and/or the name of this particular beauty?

Welp, I just pulled the trigger on a figured black walnut dog (the current vape special) and I couldn't be more excited!! I've been back and forth on what to buy for my next vape and ultimately decided a desktop log was my best bet seeing as I partake at home 95% of the time and really wanted an ultra efficient, microdosing capable, full convection unit. Thanks to some folks on Reddit and the wealth of information in this thread I went with the Underdog.

Can't wait to receive my dog and I'm happy to be joining this awesome community. I'll be sure to post my initial thoughts and some pictures once I receive it.

My walnut dog is now two years old. I don't leave it on 24/7 but it's on every day for several hours.
I'm very pleased to report that it functions just the way it did when it was brand new - that is to say: perfectly; and looks just the same as it did when it came out of the box - that is to say: beautiful.

Btw @underdogette I see from your FAQs that you still ship to UK. I mention this as I was thinking of reviving a dormant U/D thread on UK420 where I post frequently.

Yeah I love the wood of my walnut dog. Glassy smooth and dark with swirls of color. My crappy camera can't take a photo worth looking at. But it's some pretty wood to look at when you're getting high. @Tstat yo that's a nice looking dog you have there. I love the voltage controller they make. Good stuff. My dog is good out of the box but it sprouts wings when it's hooked up to the voltage controller.
Lately I've been using the voltage controller with my other log and it works wonderfully with that one, too. Any log owner would do well having their voltage controller paired with a 15v ps. I don't EVER go that high, but sometimes with glass I will go a little higher than 12v. Maybe 12.7 or something.
I've been only using the nong with a dry bubbler. Actually, I use the nong with both of my log vapes, too. Underdog makes quality accessories. I have really grown to appreciate the solid nong with a 14/19 adapter. Dead simple, flavorful, strong hit, small load. Rip it and dump it.

Underdog and Underdogette are the shit, and so are their vapes.

These guys have bent over backwards to make sure I'm a happy customer; and I am not an easy customer to please. They've responded to each and every question I've had when most companies would have told me to take a hike and enjoy my product.

As for the vape itself? The UD has all the simplicity and ease of maintenance that I enjoyed with my Purple Days vaporizer but with much more flexibility. Want a quick couple of hits? Stuff a tiny crumb of bud in a steel tip stem and you can be done before the commercial break is over. Want a longer session? Scooch the screen back on the glass stem and prepare to lose count of which hit you're on. Big clouds? Grind it fine, turn up the temp and call Lando, because you're on your way to Cloud City.

And to anyone that's still on the fence about this vape: doubt not, the hype is real.

Any log owner would do well having their voltage controller paired with a 15v ps. I don't EVER go that high, but sometimes with glass I will go a little higher than 12v. Maybe 12.7 or something.

I don't know that this is true for more recent dogs. My SC2 zebrawood glulam and re-cored, last-of-the-OG-standard-core walnut dog both do nicely at 10.5-10.7, through water. 11V is getting into 'doesn't taste so great' territory, verging on charring/combustion. With a direct-draw stem, I bump down to 10.2-10.4.

Underdogs older than a year or two might benefit from 12V+, but if your dog came with a mini VVPS, the stock power supply is more than sufficient for flower. The current cores are markedly more efficient than previous iterations, the standard package has got you covered, imo

My mom broke the old whip vape I got her and she's been having trouble using most vapes after a surgery on her good hand, so I was very happy to find out that she not only liked the underdog but could use it well and easily. So, now I don't own an underdog anymore. But it's okay, my mom brought me into this world and has overcome so much adversity...an Underdog for an underdog.

Anyway, I'm in my 40s, so you know my mom is at least a little older, and even with a disability she finds the UD very easy to use. She loves the warm wood in her hands, too. So there you have it.

Wow 7 years later and I finally knock at the door! I presently own an e-nano, and love it to death as it works wonders for convection concentrate dabbing. I also have a WoodScents on its way because of all the hype i've heard. Should I also pull the trigger on an UD? Would I be missing anything if I didn't? My usage is strictly traditional hash, rosin hash oil, honey oil, bubble hash, kief etc. and I use a bed of cotton for wick.

@Xelatsok Sure everyone is different and I am a pig who requires more than most but there are tradeoffs in extraction, reliability and usage that necessitate a bowl close (but not that close) to a heater. We use stems that are refillable so they are endless. Best taste is in first pulls. More stems = More taste. The loss that occurs when stirring (spillage) and flavor makes logs (which are bound by plug length anyways) your best bet for economy.

The 14mm Gong is one of my favourites. I did break one, user fault, so I ordered a couple more (one for back up).

It's not currently a option but the 18/19mm OS Nong has the bigger bowl. This is my favourite (I do wish it was glass though).

Out of curiosity, for tobacco wouldn't an Ejuice, box mod be better? Some PG, VG, flavour and nicotine are the usual ingredients.

Vaping reg tobacco would include alot of the pesticides, growth factors, and all the other additives as well as the nicotine. And that won't be healthy.

Get a UD for flower!! Box mod tobacco (interchangeable with flower if you have the right atomizer)

That's alot of logs. I would add an UD to my collection. The VVPS could be used with your other logs too giving you more control over the temp (read as voltage).
