I have a chance to get some wax/shatter. Does the UD work well with it? Hardly ever have some available where I am and I kind of want to try it..
Does anyone have any suggestions or pics of custom stem holder setups? I'm thinking about just using solid wood with holes drilled to hold them upright, or possibly even a test tube drying rack or something.
Rugged enough for use as a portable desktop. Perhaps? I like being able to uncord my VVPS and roll up the cords and unit for possibly taking elsewhere. If you can go as small as my TPN-023 with similar hard set dials and knobs but with more durable electronics and PCB, that might be a direction if you are making an in-house option.
Just brainstorming here. How about a simple wooden cylinder with all the hardware inside. So you can perhaps lathe the smaller pieces that are too small for logs. Perhaps even shaped as a platform for your log to set in for stability?
My selfish aim is to be able to take my UD, a VVPS and a lightweight enough, but powerful battery to carry to say a cabin somewhere without stressing about power consumption for a weekend.
Thanks, glad you like. And glad to hear my method is O.K. and that those with underbutter can have that lemon pledge wood smell. BTW. I actually vape lemongrass. If that tells you how much I like it.
Does anybody use Eucalyptus oil and wax in the copper bowls? I use lemongrass and a single drop of lime oil. Have Clove and tea tree oil lying around.
It is nice being able to switch from aromatherapy to ummm ....... vapor therapy.
So I was on to something and not being silly by rotating my stems to change where the hottest point is. Want to perfect that technique even more then.
Personally, I don't mind spending more money for reliability. I think those wanting to save money can continue to use the dimmers as a "cheap" option, as they're still fairly reliable... I'd say my voltage jumping issue happens <5% of the time (and they're both on 24/7) so that's still pretty good success rate for a <$30~ish option.
Underdog is the perfect name for this vape. Asks for nothing, yet gives everything just like a loyal dog. They work even better if their coat is well kept & they get petted daily. Just one of many areas of ownership that gives me a sense of child like wonder.
@underdog This is super helpful as I'm looking to switch to soldered barrel plugs since it will help testability and such. The terminal blocks are easy to probe, but this makes that setup just as easy. I would personally love to see more insight and pics of your electronics setup and tools as you find things to share! My biggest challenge right now is finding the ideal cable setup and balancing durability and functionality with maintainability. Thanks for sharing!
Showing off the weekly desktops. 'Curly' UD in the lower half. Can mount the colored, less heavier 'Spoon' and F/F adapter on a Nong with the UD and get the thick glass draw instead of the J-hook which is great for squeezing tiny amounts. BTW.
The 13.0 setting and proper draw strength slowed down by the j-hook allow me to skip grinding and use the SS stem like a cutting tool and take out a core sample of materials and vape that. The pic is low res and doesn't really capture the detail and patina of the wood. But you might get an impression how the grain goes in a different direction then the sheen pattern. The TnT is the wood I wanted in a UD, but the one I ended up with is more suited to me. Glad I got the stem to quiet that impulse.

Let us know if you find a suitable solution! I am certainly looking for one, as nothing frustrates me more than setting one of my stems down somewhere (sometimes I'll rest them in a nook on my keyboard or try and stand them up, upside-down) and it falls or I knock it over.
CLINK!!!
The worst sound, and now I have herb everywhere (and probably in my goddamn keyboard ffs! )
I bought some wooden bowls but they're SO SHALLOW I'm a dumbass. I was looking at some rolling tray type deals (so that I can keep it wooden... moonhay and some other bamboo tray maker I found) but that still leaves them susceptible to rolling away and etc lol.
the test tube drying rack would be great and cheap but would look too out of place for me to get, I think... idk I tried some shatter in my dog again just to make sure I wasn't recommending some false methods (yep... that was the reason) so this is probably the worst post ever bye
I'm going to guess that was a rambled post from you @muunch because the concentrate in your dog?
Generally any kind of pen stand will work well for this. Here's an example of a real nice exotic wood one.
Yeah exactly, the terminal blocks work fine and for prototyping, repairs and whatnot they're great.. but a sleeker more durable/functional setup is always nice. I'll definitely share more little things like this as I come across them and have enough clean desk space to take pictures.
We used to make what we called 'Stem Caddies' which worked nicely enough and were just nice blocks of solid wood with appropriate size holes on them to hold various stems. They'd definitely be easy enough for most people with some basic tools to make.
I'm considering just ordering from an Etsy shop like this one and requesting a custom hole diameter to fit the glass stems. I'll probably make a nice station/caddy myself at some point, but that might be a dead easy and still relatively cheap way to get a great fitting one in the meantime.
Well, tbh this looks like exactly what I want. I could give a damn less if the fit is exact, as long as it can hold em upside-down and doesn't look weird on my desk, I'm happy.
You are a better, more persistent, search-voyaging man than I - and for that I thank you and a tip of my dog to ye.
I'll be ordering one shortly and will update. You can think of this as my repayment to you finding them if you please
I HAVE FOUND THE MOTHERLOAD. what size do i ask for tho? a mix of 1/2in and 5/8th in for DD and wood+SStip steps?

...btw double doggin is just silly. feels way way stronger than vaping 2 stems separately. I'd totally recommend it to anyone who haa 2 dogs. My next test will be double dog + concentrates. Will save this for after I first boot up my Switch
@Diggy Smalls
Damn that sounds interesting... I tried to match temps when I did it yesterday, but the effects felt like a small dab off my quartz nail with less body-groginess...
Not sure how I'd feel about mixing temps/strains but I'm at the very least interested to see how 4dogs can be used at once... If I bought 2 more claisens to do it, I feel like it'd be so unstable/at risk of breaking due to weight but I'm sure there are 3/4/5/etc holed-claisens...
