So I'm about to come off of a month long combustion cleanse. A tolerance break, but I'm coming off of the lighter too. After the accident I started smoking through my bubbler I used to vape through, and rolling. Which was disgusting tasting, inefficient and I didn't get anywhere close to as high....

Three months ago, I did something shameful. I was a bad owner to the best dog in the world. She gave me my first hit of the magical plant. I'd never touched cannabis until I got her. She was about a year an a half, until one night, I decided to go over board and do about 4 nylon stems. Rather than my usual two. It hit me so hard I fell asleep with her in my bed...I woke up at 4 am in a daze and the smell of smoldering wood filling my nose. She still smells a little like it. After that she never woke up again. I believe she got covered up and almost suffocated as you will. Where without being able to openly displace heat it built up.

I have a question, for you Dave. Can you revive this frankendog? How much will the vet bills be? I do plan on buying another UD first, because I'm moving and about to hit the one month mark soon. And there's no way I'm vaping without an UD. I'd just like to have her fixed up if it's possible, so maybe I could have two girls. I believe it's a walnut, standard core. About a year and a half old..

Note: I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility. This horrid accident was in no way shape or form Dave, or Amanda's fault, but due to my own misuse.

Super side note: Was the original color of the bottom half. The top was discolor end due to the heat.

Eeek! Yeah not recommended to bundle up a Dog in bed and sleep with it.. :o

Hard to say for sure whether it's repairable without having it in hand to see the damage up close but if it's possible we can do it. If it just needed a new heating element/wiring then it'd be like $20-$30 plus shipping, if it needs a new body as well then it's more in the $100 range. :2c:

If it needs a new body I'd might as well get a new one, it's the body that holds the sentiment to me. It looks alright, just darker, who knows inside. I'll send it over to you if you want to pm me an address! I still plan on ordering another dog, so maybe just pack it in with that one?

Crazy idea, I wonder if it needed a new body if some of the old we're salvageable for a mash up dog or something? Half walnut half something else? Or birth a mini out of it...I'm not the vape engineer here so that could be impossible, just an idea!

Ah, gotcha.. well we'll save the body if at all possible, it might be totally fine.

I'll have Underdogette message you with the return shipping info in just a second and we'll get things rolling. We can definitely send it back with anything else you need including a new Dog.

So my dog just arrived and I'm in love despite not having it heated up all the way yet nor have I used the dog for vaping or aromatherapy. There's occasionally a very quiet popping sound occurring as the dog is heating up. Is this just normal settling in or should I be concerned?

Can't wait to use the dog for vaping :)

That's totally normal. We put them through a burn-in here before they go out, but things inside are still settling in. Same way as a heater or fireplace, the metal and the wood will expand and contract as it changes temperatures.

Let us know what you think when you get it fully heated and are able to try it out!

RUDE BOY

Space is the Place

I don't know why exactly but I truly love the look of this dog and Hope you don't need a new body and that a new heating element is all that's needed. I'm Sure it was beautiful when new but now after your mishap That's one Exceptionally beautiful 'dog IMO.

My little goncalo pup started out a sweet light honey color(goncalo 16533 on the UD website)with the knots and grain being a nice darker reddish brown and now after quite a bit of use the body of the vape has changed to a much darker color that matches a few pieces of 60 year old well aged and cared for old rosewood furniture that are close to the hue of knot's in my vape while new and virgin and the knots and grain are very very dark like the top of your piece now. Get's more beautiful every week with use and with every underbutter massage session it receives.

Love my 'Dogs and they all just get sweeter with age and use.

Just used the direct draw stem and way less material than I ever use and while I've certainly been more medicated than this, it hasn't happened with this little amount of material. The lighting isn't ideal for seeing clouds and I"m not much of a cloud chaser, but I've got more clouds out of this tiny bit of meds than I've got out of my portable vape that if it weren't for my own on the go needs I'd probably sell or give to my sister.

Sounds like you're off to a good start!

It's probably not as elegant as a dedicated portable but you can always use a Dog with a battery pack for on-the-go fun.:2c:

So, I currently smoke 95% of my flower and use a lot of concentrates with my enail, henail, and Pens. I have a Pax 1 that I only use occasionally for stealth reasons and a vapor tower that I bought probably 8 years ago. Both vapes work well but I know that there are much better vapes by now. The Vapor tower has a hollow ceramic heating element and sandwiches a small amount of weed in the base of the whip between 2 screens. It works MUCH better than the other horizontally facing whip vapes I have tried but I know something like the UD MUST be better.
I don't think I will stop rolling joints but I do want to switch to about a 50/50 split. If you guys were going to buy only 1 new vape, would it be a UD? I would like to be able to use it for concentrates too if possible and I'm open to suggestions.
If you suggest a UD (Which I'm sure you will on this thread) Should I get the standard core first?

Welcome!
The UD is indeed a great choice. As far as cores go, they are interchangeable performance wise. The only real difference would be how the heater connects to the stem. What kind of stems did you plan on using? Just go with the pup that really catches your eye. You'll know when you see it. Got questions? Ask away!

@underdog @Zac2354

If the inner part of the body is a little charred, maybe you could bore out the middle and make it an aircore? Just a thought.

I have high hopes, it doesn't actually seem to be charred, that was probably poor choice of words. Honestly it's just really dark, still the wood, just like it was cooked. And it has an almost campfire smell to it. But that's the outside (and inside the) I'm scared to find out what the inside where the core is, looks like. Fingers crossed! I'm glad you all can see the beauty in her still!

ok, I guess I want a direct draw and one for a 14mm water pipe. Do you like the Nong or Gong for water pipe use? Which Core do you prefer? I would like to get a reasonably priced bong or bubbler for it too. got any suggestions on one that works well with the UD?

Currently I've only owned a standard core. But here's my two cents. The standard core is more versatile, if you don't mind waiting a few more minutes of heat up, then you'll be able to hit it more in a shorter time, or longer. So it seems. I'd love to have an aircrew too though, and I plan on it. The nylon stems are the way to go, either core.

As for a bubbler, there's a cheap glass thread in the glass section you should look through. Though, direct draw will surprise you! Once you adjust to the vape cough, direct draw is a lot easier, and no cleaning glass! I had a bubbler I had bought to use with my UD, but used the direct nylons a lot out of ease, and better flavor. Water diffusion doesn't make it much better cause it's already quite smooth

If you're looking to use the glass tubes, I would go with the classic core. I say this because the classic core gives you a set stop point for your roasting tube when using it inverted. You can use it hands free and will give you more consistent hits. BUT the air core will give you a little more manipulation over the temp of you hit. You can manually adjust the distance of the heater to the load. They also offer orings to put on air cores to create a set stop point.

Sorry, a little stoned. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. I'm really just spitting out random thoughts at this point. I mean you can adjust the heater to load distance my moving the screen as well so.....yeah, sorry. Haha.

Anyway, @Zac2354 covered most of your questions.

Damn Versa + Reclaim hits got on top of me. Scatterbrained. Sigh.....

I usually use nylon stems it seems but it's nice to have choices!

All this vape talk makes me giddy to start vaping again! Just a couple short weeks and I'll be in the skies again! Didn't mean to steal your thunder @Madcap79 definitely a good point on the being able to control how close the heater is to the load. I'm psyched to get my baby back up and running at all costs, and purchase an air core too!

My personal favorite(s) these days are the Air Core (AC) with Nylon Stems or NonGs.

With the (free) o-ring installed the AC works great with the glass stems and GonGs too. We'll be phasing the Standard Core out soon (when inventory runs out) and making the AC the new norm then I'll be redesigning the Standard.

Can't go wrong with a Log, everyone loves a Log. :brow:

My Grace Glass piece works well with the Dog but I do need a 14 mm female to female. It will soon work with my Grav Lab but I need a 18 male to female. Just make sure you get a vape based bubbler and a glass aimed at smoking. Yes you do get great flavor direct draw, but I like the Dog with or without water. The Glass pieces are really nice, but that nylon is something else.

I like the Standard Core very much. I didn't want to mess with o rings.
