Underdog Log Vapes

Great Scott!
Right? I just don't know enough about cotton. Plastic won't catch fire very easily from indirect heat, but it'll sure offgas long before it ignites. I'm just not sure if the same is true of cotton. What temp does cotton start producing ANYTHING at? I'm a very over obsessed with safety kind of person, but I guess there are worse things to be OCD about?

Hey @darkrom :)

FYI - the temperature required for cotton to autoignite would be 407 °C or 765 °F.

Now that would be a VERY hot dog!

I'm not sure about the vapors though . . .

I don't think so, maybe rayon but I've combusted with cotton before.

I started a thread about wicking materials if you guys have opinions please help the conversation.

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/rda-wicks-for-your-convection-device.18293/

Edit:
Must mention you'll probably only combust if you're above 14v or if it's a mini, the Hammer can go above 700F for convection heating. I have had cotton catch on fire with my UD mini, I now just use Rayon over cotton its also a lot cheaper.

I am trying to find a material that doesn't need to be thrown away or swapped after usage its rather tedious when you hit oils every hour at least 7 new dabs loaded within that hour. It's even more inconvenient when your device doesn't get hot enough for a more full extraction.

Well according to Wiki (which couldn't possibly be wrong :p) those are the temps.

Check the critical temperatures section:

You've combusted in your dog with cotton? Yuck! That puts me off of EVER trying it! :|

But if it combusted at a lower temp maybe your cotton was oily or contaminated?

Remember I put my dogs on the highest settings out of the rest of the users.

Technically my cotton had oil on it but it definitely isn't contaminated. Never combusted with cotton until I get out of herb vaping range and move to concentrate vaping range.

Just wanted to share...
Posted this over in Nano thread.
I use Gr2 titanium coil from w9 its for sr71/74 (herc)
Normally I use my Nano for this no vv for pups yet...
It's a little big, but works great .
I plugged hole with s/s screen. The donut seems a little small for that application, but I'll try it out.
Didn't care for cotton used steel wool. Meh gr2 titanium for me I spend enough time with Dr's!!!
I would post pic but imgur I need to relearn how.

Edit: when I used steel wool I would torch to burn off manufacturing oil's. Then some would crumble into like a dust when inserted into stem. I do this in dry stem, no water to catch particles. Not for me to each his own...

This works good for me. I put stainless steel wool in a 18mm male to male and when the goo starts to flow too low, I just push it through to the other side with a stick. I just keep pushing it to the other end after each hit. It can get a little drippy, so while the ss is still hot after hitting, I spin the ss in the stem to help pickup the drips. Works pretty well. At least it keeps the mess down with the least amount of trouble. Probably the most convienient way I've found so far. So, hit, spin, and push through and repeat.

I took a pair of wire cutters and split a S&B liquid pad in half. I shove some wax in the middle of the liquid pad piece and place that inside a GonG with cotton below it. The cotton is far enough away to where it won't heat much at all really but it will catch any wax that would have become reclaim on your glass and keep it inside the GonG.

This method has worked great for me with my e-E-Nano. But honestly I still prefer the quickness of torching my banger for 5 seconds and tossing a dab on there. I hate using a torch but damn is it fast.

As some of you may know, I posted a few times last week in an effort to figure out my UD econo-dog. Well, since then I gave a regular dog a try. This was my reaction...

I have not one complaint about this new unit. The hits are strong and satisfying. 3-4 hits sit me down. I'm convserving alot.I like this new unit so much I've been mostly direct drawing from it. I've used it with my glass as well, which is also fucking glorious.

I legitimately feel like a member of the dog pound! thanks to anyone for hearing me out the past few days. Also a big thank you to @underdog & @underdogette for having the best customer service. I feel like I'm home, lol.

Where my dogs at?

Giddy as a tuna

Why do you dislike ceramics?
I'll have to see what kind of crazy oil contraptions I come up with in my spare time.

Cons to porous ceramic to me, IMO: very expensive and difficult to ascertain quality, origin or composition. I also have some OCD health concerns with ceramic in forms that I feel may be prone to releasing particulate being in the air path.

Years ago I worked in a couple facilities that manufactured some ceramic parts and the efforts they went thru to keep us from breathing the (potential) dust was pretty intense and left an impression I guess.

Knew I remember Vito discussing these discs,

I have tried them.
Photoon2012-02-01at1256.jpg

They are a bit too porous to work very well with BHO, unless you add help.. like a bed of ABV.
I use a hand held wand , and I use a sort of longer than average one, so I even use two ceramic discs at the same time... to bring the top disc closer to the heat. It needs a good bed of ABV because it goes through the large holes of the ceramic discs very easily when liquid, and the ABV slows down the air flow just enough to vaporize your oils.
