I greatly prefer the glass stems... for me, the herb goes straight to the stem when "sucking it up." With the thicker silicone, I tend to make a mess, both inside and outside the tube. I also just prefer the way the glass stem feels in my hand.

But... I actually prefer the WonG. With the thin silicone.

But... I'd actually prefer to get the silicone out of the mix all together.

I'm not sayin. I'm just sayin.

That ailanthus really catches my eye. Tree of heaven, indeed.

Ive got to chime in and say hitting the UD using straight glass is the best, although overtime the thin silicone does seem to widen but I saw no drop in performance. And the thick silicone retains its shape better. So I can see as to why people would say it creates a better long term seal.but no reclaim..and honestly using my thick silicone stem for a month made me realize how much I missed that wand hash..Of course I cant stop using my Wong now.. so who knows when Ill get to enjoy that glorious reclaim:luv:..
So many options!
BTW the new lineup looks great,so many lovely shapes. Its like a dove commercial..Im pretty fond of a tulipwood twig... I want to know more about these sweet smelling woods etc...I wish I would have known more about all these diffrent wood types and their properties before I bought my pup.I mean Im from Illinois so all I know is pine tree ,maple trees...Help us sheltered folks out..;) Maybe Dave could incorporate some info on the site...We'll call it wood for dummies..:dog: That would be awesome...

When you say straight glass, do you have an all glass stem? I know they used to have some with an old glass blower or something but aren't around anymore. If so I've been dreaming about an XL tube lmao.

Honestly the wong's reclaim faster than the direct draw.. at least for me. Probably 75% of the time I'm hitting through water, so it probably amounts to how much you use each... but the glass insert is removable and you can scrape or wash it just like you would the normal glass stem section.

I agree the info on wood types and background on the site would be awesome, but Dave does well to keep making UD's at this rate I'm thinking lol. I can only imagine the side work he's got with his nefarious 'top secret' design custom orders ;). I think as we're fortunate enough to have the selection, for now, we'll have to do a bit of research into the wood ourselves should we want to delve that deep into the 'rabbit hole'.

For sure bro.Im all for doing some research...Its like I have jimminy criket in my ear singing "do a little research, and always let your conscious be your guide' -When ever I see the same ?s asked over and over. But No I dont have an all glass stem, that does sound dreamy though and their around..but I think Daves r and d would be better served trying to figure out how to strap some batteries on this bad boy! Now Im dreaming...
I hear you though and agree putting a brief description under an item isnt necessary because their selling anyway. I just want to be more knowledgeable, and its that much easier when its right infront of you..
Btw thanx for the wong tips..Its nice to know Ill get some nice reclaim from that. I guess I didnt think of it because I was too focuses on the thick silicone piece...And I vape alot when I get off work.

No offense meant at all man. A short description like a caption on the glass sites or something would be awesome. But to really 'get to know' your piece like that would deserve more info than would make practical sense to write out.

Honestly, since so many units to get put together in batches of the same woods depending on what's ready to turn, even a 'copy paste' tidbit based on what the wood shell is would be cool to include.

Oh, and listen to this man about the batteries ;). If I could bring this thing around with me even for 2-3 hours I could blow some minds. For such a 'progressive' city, there are very few people actually vaporizing. If it wasn't attached to a wall for the same 'ish' price point.. I think there might be a few more dogs roaming the town.

Hey, this has probably been asked a few times, but the proper search terms I cannot find.
I have experienced it a few times where a few variables come together to form a situation where the UD actually cauees combustion of plant material. In the past 6 months this jas happened about 3 times to me. What happeens ismy bubbler fills up with a white smoke with a hint of yellow. If accidentally inhaled, this is somehow MUCH harsher than any normal smoke I have experienced.
Now I know how to prevent this, simply move the screen further away and tale shorter and less deep hits. My question is what males this smoke so harsh? Is the silicone being burnt? That seems like it would be dangerous.
don't worry. I've never combusted trough my UD, but I have combusted on occassions with my vaporgenie, and there I found the same thing. if I accidently combusted, even a tiny little speck, it felt much harsher as regular combustion trough a combustionpipe.
if you want to prevent that you can always buy a VVPS, I'm using one too because I'm in europe and the stockadapters for europe tended to run on the low side. I still keep my abv relatively light btw, more golden as brown

I often use the glass stem, but in combination with the thick silicon as bowl(with domed screen, and some room between the screen and the glass)
that way I have a couple of bowls that are easy to put away(stand up on their own), wich enables me to switch between strains and between weed/hash
the glass stem also connects well to the 14 mm gong of my 250 ml ehle.
but I also have a piece of silicn about the same as my bowls with a tapered end that fits inside a 14 mm gong.
a little while back I got a new diffused downstem, and a precooler I use as bubbler so I now mostly vape trough water again. have 2 WonGs in the mail, I think that will really complete it.

i LOVE using my two WonGs that i have over just the straight silicone or just glass stem. The wood sleeve adds an added width which makes it a bit like holding a cigar and comfortable in my hand. the glass insert inside reclaims at a fairly quick rate and still gives crisp tasty hits. however, before having the WonGs i was definitely a glass stem man. i just thought the glass stem felt more natural against my lips than the silicone stem but thats just my opinion. when i first started using my UD, i was all about the thick silicone stem. that thing can pack a WHALLUP!

@upperlevel- as Dave said, watch your stem pack, distance from heat port and screen cleaniness to avoid combustion. i've had my UD for close to a year now and haven't combusted with it at all. i have noticed with with water pipe adapters for my UD the screen tends to clog up quicker which leads to a more restricted draw. since the screen clogs gradually it may be hard to notice sometimes.

Found this on Reddit thoughts? Dave where do you get the ceramic core for our dogs? is this guy for real about there only one factory that make the cores?

http://www.reddit.com/r/trees/comments/18nk52/why_i_believe_vaporizing_can_be_more_dangerous/
Regardless of the authors "opinions", it's a moot point. The UD does not use a ceramic heating element like one mentioned in the article (i.e., like the SSV/7th Floor products), it uses a resistor. Maybe this should be posted in another log vape thread where the heating source is a ceramic cartridge?

I've also found the reclaim to build up wicked fast in my WonG. Was just looking at it a little while ago and thinking I need to either reclaim or clean today. And I like that it's overall a smaller amount. I don't need any crazy 12-hour reclaim trips!

The info. about the ceramic is very interesting... but I find it difficult to believe. Still, I hope people will continue to investigate this... so I don't have to do it myself.

to be added onto what treecityrnd said, not only is this not the same situation but, IIRC, the ceramic used in UD's aren't in the air path for vaporization. i'm pretty sure Dave uses the ceramic to insulate the closed-system stainless steel core. however, i may be misinformed.

I didn't think dave used the same cores but i thought it was worth bring up.

So here you go, consider yourselves teased:

@ I_wanted_truth - thanks for the update man, happy to hear you're still enjoying that Tineo Pup. As far as measuring the voltage your power supply is putting out while under load there's not good/easy way to do it, it's going to require the stripping of some wires or something similar. The unloaded voltage of the power supply is going to be way high and not a real good indicator of anything. Any particular reason you're looking to measure the voltage?

:peace:

No, no reason at all. Just had access to a multimeter and was curious. Oh, well. Not worth it to me to strip/weaken any wires.

I am GREATLY enjoying the Pup.

Man! Those are some nice looking Underdogs!

I get better performance from the thick silicone. My own personal theory is that the thick silicone retains the heat better for a little hotter extraction, but I'm probably completely wrong.

:peace:
i notice the thinner sleeve silicone gives more airflow and less dense hits.. because of that i use the thick stuff. i think id like the thinner stuff for dry hits though

 right on... i was wondering who was gonna end up w/ that one... i'm surprised my buddy didn't go for it.. sweet piece w/ a sweet price

What do you think, Dogs? Glass or Silicone?

I'm a glass, silicone, and wood guy. WonG's + Woodstem is so versatile. Definitely changed my experience rather than using just silicone or glass.

With that said, I love the idea of an all glass piece... after all I do have GonGs' all around  .

thanks for this info!! good to know the UD uses a glass coated resistor with no worries: re ceramic elements

Interesting, thanks for posting. The UD uses a high wattage glass coated resistor and not a ceramic heating element so no worries there. :ninja:

I like this idea. I was wondering why the glass stems were fitted with the thinner silicone, and whether anyone else was using the thicker silicone for the glass.

What's your reason for the room between the screen and glass? Better airflow?

I have to give OTA credit for this idea. he adviced to keep some room for airflow, my experiences seem to conform that but I didn't try it with the screen closer to the glass much.
another reason is that I'd probably get a ring of vaperesin in the screen(I did use the glass stem extensivelty with the thin silicone when I just got my UD, and with that method the screens always would gunk up with such a ring)

Sigh.

Another day, another dollar, another lie, another cruel twist of fate, another crumbling stage of a cold, meaningless existence. Etc.

But... at least the UD, already warmed-up, patiently waiting, with a packed WonG by its side, makes everything ... not so horrible.

I'm not sure how much more I would ask for in a vape. :science:

Cheers, Dog and Dog-ette... the UD is still my daily driver and I don't see that changing anytime soon. :)
