Tornado by Vestratto

Yeah I'm going to watch again at some point but it really wasn't clear. If you can paraphrase, it would be appreciated.
I will decipher for you. The Tornado started out fitting the V2 version of the Anvil. When they tried to put the copper into the Tornato (vacuum chamber and heat and a little magic) the copper wasn’t filling the void as it was intended. Because of this vent holes were drilled into the Tornado part that would normally sit on top of the stem. This solved the copper flowing problem, but left copper exposed in the air path. A small disk was welded into the bottom of the Tornado to seal the copper, this also makes the female stem pocket more shallow so it doesn’t totally fit down on the V2 stem. It does fit the V1 stem though.

I was just writing a post to reword it, but I think you did a good job. Only thing I would add is that I'm not sure if it's the weld itself that makes the pocket more shallow, or if the pocket needs to be more shallow in order for them to perform the weld. I would think if the problem is just the weld making it shallower they could start with a deeper pocket, but I don't know enough about their tools and manufacturing process to say.

So it’s incompletely engineered and the customer is left with cobbling together the pieces he didn’t feel like engineering.

That’s not the end of the world, but be clear and up front about it. The design is not “impossible” to effectively engineer within your own friggin house (let alone an entire eco-system of compatibility); you have simply stopped short of the complete design. That’s your right, and it’s the markets right to call a spade a spade.

Again I will say, it’s a great device, I own it and would buy it again. But customers deserve to know plain facts to inform their decisions.

How would you have done it?

There is nothing wrong with this device. It's no wonder Vestratto does not participate in this forum. Some of you guys need to just stay on Reddit.

This thing is a atom bomb the size of a chapstick container. There is nothing defective about this device. It is a feat of engineering that anybody that actually uses it would agree with.
That's a privileged opinion you have there. Feel free to use mine and tell me it's not defective. I feel pretty confident you'll agree it is given it took vestratto damn near a month to not tell me it's defective after I asked, just sent me a shipping confirmation for the replacement oven. Then informed me weeks later that it and the screen that was missing when I got it that was meant to have been sent well before the strike started are still sitting in Canada and haven't even been sent yet.

This community is small, goodwill goes a long way, there's likely a really good reason people have animosity towards this company. I know I'm livid right now.

I dunno. I'm not a metallurgist so I can only speculate but as you say, if they couldn't start with a deeper pocket and it needed to be shallow to perform the weld, it seems plausible that the cylinder walls that mate with the stem could've then been extended after the tricky weld was completed, in a two step process. A separate adapter provided gratis or for a small fee might've also been a way to make the Anvil stem compatible.

Spent a relatively short amount of time designing an adaptor? Said in the video were talking about why the pocket couldn't have been made deeper to start with?

The explanation given screams "fuck, we didn't consider that, let's do a rushed patch". A lot of people complained about the delay for the tempest. Very few people are complaining about the build after release.

We seem to have a few experienced engineers on this forum who know what others don't do well..🙂
And some people are making a big deal about the compatibility with the Anvil stem when third-party solutions already exist, as is often the case (adapter from @ScruffyWoofers ) and Vestratto is working on a solution too.
The Tornado is a product in development, with qualities and flaws, but guys, you can't say John and this company don't care about his customers when he's produced 2 of the most successful and powerfull extraction devices on the market. 2 products created, 2 bombs.
Isn't that what counts in the end?
Tornado is already very good. Thank you John to help us to get perfect extractions from our herb and help us be happier in our life😂

I assume there's some good reason this wasn't done, because that does seem like it would be the most obvious solution if it's possible.

They definitely could have done that, but that doesn't make it natively compatible.

I agree that they could have and arguably should have done these things, but neither of them make the Tornado natively compatible with Anvil stems.

I imagine it has allready been said, but are the orings of the wpa Iso proof ? I have 2 different types of orings, brownish on the bottom (2 of them) and black (3, on the top). I know that one of the orings on the anvil isn’t Iso proof (the one on the outside of the heat shield), so I just wanted to be sure :)

Yep they are Viton so good to clean in iso. As you mentioned the only non viton oring Vestratto uses is on the anvil's heatshield that one is Buna Nitrile.

Hey guys, new owner of a tornado and ispire wand.

Tornado is great so far, however - if you watch any YouTube videos with the tornado and the wand, ie tabletop bong, they insert the tornado in from the top of the wand, or even let the tornado rest inside while it heats, which was my plan

However I’m finding that my tornado just straight up doesn't fit into the top of the wand. Only works if I insert from underneath and hold perfectly still. Picture attached. Is this normal? Is some kind of modification to the wand needed?

I have the same issue...pretty sure just different production models...I have an older one and have ordered a second one to test.

A second Wand or Tornado?

Still waiting to hear back from sneaky pete (ordered both through them.) Pete did a stream like, four days ago with John from Vestratto where he's dropping the vape in topside no problem and I'm just sitting here watching it like "why can't I do that???" lol.

Second wand. Hopefully it has a bigger opening on top. If not I had planned on getting a second one anyway for my brother who uses DV's

Ah, gotcha, I was between the wand and the camouflet inductor - went with the wand since this was my first IH, plus smaller footprint + price, however if I knew this was a possibility I would've just gotten the camouflet. I know it's not necessarily a "huge" deal since I can still insert from underneath, but it allows for essentially no adjustability

Got to try it on a couple of stems thanks to @ScruffyWoofers adapter .. nice work! The glass is by High Artisan and I initially thought it would be too short. The taste is excellent with it first go and clouds a plenty. The composite stem came with the Stunner. This feels really good in the hand! Quite different due to the added length and no carb. Head heat lasted longer here and was more like a session vs the glass. Did 2 back to back in each and neither got too hot to stop there if I wanted to. Initially planned on using with my Dani long woody, but the stem opening is too small to even begin to budge. That (and the shorty) are a couple years old now and every head is super tight, even the BFG's. Guess I didn't think of that but worked out for me anyway :brow:

Damn. Nice stems 💚

I have a better idea what it'll look like now though as I also have a carbon fiber Stunner stem to try. I didn't get the matching drip tip though but I borrowed the tip from my Omni. I also have a Dani long rosewood stem waiting for it.

I just bought a 2 pill stem meant for DF2 from High artisan to use with the Tornado. Got the idea after I bought the Artemis. Seeing this was awesome 😁

How is the weight ratio. I guess its a bit heavier in back end.

Yea I shelved the wooden stems and been using this exclusively w/Fusion since I got it. Reminds me of a little cigar type feel in the mouth. Just tried .. I can balance it on one finger pretty easily. Maybe a little heavier on the head side ;)

PSA for those who ordered during Black Friday. Got my shipping notification, be here tomorrow. Overly making good on shipping estimates.

Here’s the part to pay attention to. Mine (and probably alot of others) are shipped DHL…REQUIRING SIGNATURE. Read the last two words again. Easily fixed by clicking the link and opting out of the requirement. Otherwise, if you’re not there, chances are it wont be delivered and the next few pages will be filled with complaints.
